WASHINGTON – A Department of Defense memo confirms DoD personnel – which could include civilians and/or troops – will have direct contact with “exposed remains” of Ebola victims.
While the DoD has issued new guidance on how military personnel and civilians will undergo pre- and post-deployment training while in the Ebola-affected areas of West Africa, buried in the 19-page memorandum in an attachment is an indication that the personnel will have direct exposure to the affected population.
The statement is in a memorandum from Jessica L. Write, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. Broken down into three levels, Level II training will be for personnel who “interact with the local populace,” and Level III training for personnel “assigned to supporting medical units or expected to handle exposed remains.”
No part of our oath of office includes handling decomposing remains of Ebola victims.

In Washington, the state said it’s basically following CDC guidelines too. Except if a traveler is at high-risk for getting the virus, county health districts will put limits on their movements and ability to go to public places. And Washington state’s current policy is to check on these people’s temperature twice daily. That’s more often than the CDC currently recommends.

It's great to see the nation-wide concern for Ebola. Needless to say, as soon as the two first American patients were flown to the US, an immediate ban on travel from W Africa should have been established for non US citizens. But that's water under the bridge. What I find impossible to swallow, is the apparent disregard and media silence about the nine dead children, and the 50 paralyzed as a consequence of the Enterovirus 68 or EV-D68. The fact that it may or may not be connected to the thousands of illegal aliens allowed into the country, is secondary. The main issue is to establish protocols as to how to protect our children from the deadly disease. After that is done we can determine the origin of the new virulence of the virus and how to deal with the cretins who created the situation, should it be discovered that to be the case.
ReplyDeleteI wish a decent law firm, with decent individuals, would offer pro bono services to the families of the victims to sue all the federal agencies, and their respective employees who allowed this crime to take place.
