“the F-35 is not capable of unsupported combat against any serious threat”
Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon’s director of operational test and evaluation (DOT&E)
deeper into the actual report, the F-35’s problems are extensive and
span across all three variants of the aircraft: the “A” model for the
Air Force, the “B” for the Marines (it can take off and land vertically,
like the AV-8 Harrier), and the “C” for the Navy (carrier-capable).
Particularly troubling are the admissions that weapons delivery accuracy
(WDA) – can you fire or drop a weapon and have it hit what you’re
aiming at – tests had to have their constraints altered to allow the
aircraft to pass. (Emphases mine)
Eleven of the 12 [WDA] events
required intervention by the developmental test control team to overcome
system deficiencies and ensure a successful event (i.e., acquire and
identify the target and engage it with a weapon). The program altered
the event scenario for three of these events, as well as the twelfth
event, specifically to work around F-35 system deficiencies (e.g.,
changing target spacing or restricting target maneuvers and
In plain language: they cheated. The report continues:
performance of the Block 2B-configured F-35, if used in combat, will
depend in part on the degree to which the enemy’s capabilities exceed
the constraints of these narrow scenarios and the operational utility of
the workarounds necessary for successful weapons employment.
you want to fly into battle piloting an aircraft that depends on enemy
cooperation for you to complete your mission? The Marine Corps has
declared their F-35 variant operational, and it seems like that’s what
they’re asking their aviators to do. I’m sure our enemies will be
completely cooperative as a spit-and-bailing-wire F-35 engages them.
Jazz’s previous posts discussed the F-35’s poor performance in
air-to-air combat, and the DOT&E report details those problems in
the “flight sciences assessment” for the Air Force’s “A” version:
of operational “dog-fighting” maneuvers showed that the F-35A lacked
sufficient energy maneuverability to sustain an energy advantage over
fourth generation fighter aircraft. Test pilots flew 17 engagements
between an F-35A and an F-16D, which was configured with external fuel
tanks that limited the F-16D envelope to 7.0 g’s. The F-35A remained at a
distinct energy disadvantage on every engagement. Pitch rates were also
problematic, where full aft stick maneuvers would result in less than
full permissible g loading (i.e., reaching 6.5 g when limit was 9.0 g),
and subsequent rapid loss of energy. The slow pitch rates were observed
at slower speeds—in a gun engagement, for example—that restricted the
ability of an F-35A pilot to track a target for an engagement.
time, they tried to cheat, and even when handicapping the F-16 test
adversary by loading it down with external fuel tanks, the F-35 flying
clean still couldn’t wax the older plane’s tail. To make things worse,
there’s a fuel system problem that affects the F-35 in any form and
restricts the aircraft’s operating parameters to not exceed 3.0 g
maneuvers – the plane’s design specification is for 9.0 g – until it
burns off almost half of its fuel load! Sounds like the men and women
who will be flying the F-35 should have faith in their ejection seats
and bail out procedures. Well…
The program conducted two sled
tests on the pilot escape system in July and August of 2015 that
resulted in failures of the system to successfully eject a manikin
without exceeding load/stress limits on the manikin…[T]he system failed
to meet neck injury criteria.
These tests were performed with
103-pound (July) and 136-pound (August) manikins with sled traveling at
160 knots (184 mph). Consider for a second: the F-35 is a supersonic
aircraft. Its testing scenarios – to say nothing of potential combat
flights – are conducted at speeds much faster than 160 knots. How is
this being addressed?
[T]he Program Office and Services decided to
restrict pilots weighing less than 136 pounds from flying any F-35
variant…Pilots weighing between 136 and 165 pounds are considered less
at risk than lighter weight pilots, but still at increased risk
(compared to heavier pilots). The level of risk was labeled as “serious”
by the Program Office based on the probability of death being 23
percent, and the probability of neck extension (which will result in
some level of injury) being 100 percent. Currently the Program Office
and the Services have decided to accept this level of risk to pilots in
this weight range, although the basis for the decision to accept these
risks is unknown.
For the slight of stature – including otherwise
combat-qualified female pilots – tough, you can’t fly an F-35. What of
heavier pilots? What of faster speeds? Both? The report is silent on
those questions, but how can one not have doubts about any pilot’s
survivability if they have to bail out?
The report contains
damning result after damning result: software issues, maintenance
issues, problems with the shoes necessary to be worn to protect the
F-35’s low-observable coatings during servicing being too slippery and
becoming a safety issue, Navy shipboard integration issues, and so on.
There’s several on each and every page.
Regardless, the current
plan is to move ahead with accelerated production of the F-35 – a “block
buy” of up to 270 aircraft – before operational testing is completed
and all the problems have been resolved. Oh, by the way, the DOT&E
Annual Report also projects that most if not all of the current testing
milestones won’t be reached by their already delayed dates and that
testing is currently identifying new problems at a faster rate than the
known ones are being fixed.
The F-35, and the potential “block
buy”, isn’t just of questionable fiscal sanity: it may also be illegal
(and the DOT&E annual report cautions as such). 10 USC §2306b reads
(a) In General.—To the extent that funds are otherwise
available for obligation, the head of an agency (e.g., the Secretary of
Defense, Secretary of the Air Force, et al.) may enter into multiyear
contracts for the purchase of property whenever the head of that agency
finds each of the following…
(4) That there is a stable design for
the property to be acquired and that the technical risks associated
with such property are not excessive.
The entire F-35 program, as it currently stands, is an excessive technical risk.

the celebration gets out of hand, here’s the first of two items of bad

will-o’-the-wisp that makes him unsuitable for the presidency.

Neo-Nazi thugs in Sweden last night warned of a year of violence against immigrants as the so-called ‘liberal’ state was forced to confront a new wave of support for the far right.
The extremist Swedish Resistance Movement (SRM) hailed the racist mob that attacked ‘foreign-looking’ men, women and children at Stockholm’s Central Station ‘heroes’ last week, describing them as modern ‘Robin Hoods’.
It comes amid rising anger at the nation’s ‘open door’ policy on immigration – and concern that the influx of migrants is fuelling the growth of the far right.
A recent poll found that the Sweden Democrats, an anti-immigration group with a neo-Nazi past, have become the country’s biggest political party with 28.8 per cent of the vote.
Paris. San Bernadino. Cologne. 9/11. Beslan. Times Square. Genocide against Sudanese, Nigerian, Egyptian, and Syrian Christians. Atrocities far too numerous too mention. And yet we are told that it all has nothing to do with Islam.
As a matter of fact, many Islamists in the USA haven't for about a decade now. All because the public woke up and began to research and understand what's wrong with Islam. This article from the Intl. Business Times, though not entirely honest about "minorities", does note that the shift to Democrats among Islamists began around 9-11. And that's bound to include plenty of Muslims in Iowa too. So why's Busiek acting like this is something new? It isn't.
…accept any Syrian refugees after it was arranged that 600 would come to Iowa.
Challenging question: if one of those aforementioned refugees came into Iowa or anywhere else in the USA, and later started gathering equipment with which to commit violent acts of terrorism like the terrible incidents in Fort Hood and San Bernardino, or even rape, much like what happened several weeks ago in Cologne, Germany when many women were mass raped at the city's train station, would Busiek want that to happen? Would he even express any regret if, God forbid, it happened? For now, the sad answer is probably "no". This was of course the same man who acted oblivious to the violence committed by one of Dark Horse's editors against several staffers in the months after the case made headlines, basically pretending it had never happened, as much of the comics press now appears intent on doing, proving they're not truly interested in bettering the workplace. Like I said, that's why Busiek cannot be considered somebody for sensible women and men to consult on serious issues. Say, how come, if he's so bothered about GOP members condemning Islam, he can't say the same about any of the wider public whose opinions are negative? Panning politicians is just a cheap way of voicing grievances meant for the public, dismaying as that would be if he did so.
It's certainly telling when the only topic somebody like Busiek can think of commenting on is something like Islam, acting as an apologist and vehemently refusing to look under a magnifying glass. I'm sure tomorrow, he'll be acting as apologist for Satmar socialists too, and many of them have also supported the Democrats and Obama. A real shame a once decent writer is making himself look incompetent today by wasting his time on politics in the worst ways possible.
This past weekend, dozens of girls and boys as young as about 8 years old ran up the stairwell to the main entrance of the musallah, or main prayer hall, of the Islamic Society of Baltimore, where President Obama visits Wednesday in his first presidential visit to a U.S. mosque.
As the children rounded the corner, a stern mosque Sunday school teacher stood before them, shouting, “Girls, inside the gym! Boys in the musallah.”
The girls, shrouded in headscarves that, in some cases, draped half their bodies, slipped into a stark gymnasium and found seats on bare red carpet pieces laid out in a corner.
They faced a tall industrial cement block wall, in the direction of the qibla, facing Mecca, a basketball hoop above them. Before them a long narrow window poured a small dash of sunlight into the dark gym.
On the other side of the wall, the boys clamored excitedly into the majestic musallah, their feet padded by thick, decorated carpet, the sunlight flooding into the room through spectacular windows engraved with the 99 names of Allah, or God, in Islam.
Ornate Korans and Islamic books filled shelves that lined the front walls.
As President and Michelle Obama argued decades ago in the context of the U.S. civil rights movement, separate is indeed unequal.
To Muslim women’s rights activists fighting for equal access to mosques as part of a broader campaign for reform — from equal education for women and girls to freedom from so-called “honor killings” — the president’s visit to a mosque that practices such blatant inequity represents a step backwards.
While it may be meant to convey a message of religious inclusiveness to American Muslims, the visit demonstrates tacit acceptance of a form of discrimination that amounts to gender apartheid.
For that reason, we will be standing outside the mosque on Johnnycake Road, as close as the Secret Service allows, to protest the separate and unequal standards inside and advocate for equal rights.
We believe it is the role of government to protect women’s rights within religion, if a place of worship gets federal nonprofit benefits, just as it protects civil rights in the secular space.
Places of worship in the U.S. would not be allowed tax-exempt status if, for example, they were to seat African Americans in segregated spaces.
To condone the mosque’s gender segregation is particularly ironic coming days after the White House announced efforts to win equal pay for women and increased workplace benefits for women in the military.
President Obama should be aware that on any given day a woman or girl worshiping in the mosque would be dispatched away from the musallah where he will stand to speak out against “Islamophobia,” to the “prayer room for females,” as one worshipper described it.
In much the same way that he wants to mitigate Americans seeing Muslims as the “other,” we have to challenge the Muslim systems that segregate women as the “other.”
He should know that promoting women’s rights in mosques is a key part of fighting the ideology of extremism — a fight that he asked American Muslims to help wage in an address to the nation in December.
A theology of Islamic feminism is our best answer to the extremism of ISIS, al-Qaeda and other Muslim militant groups.
Even the most conservative of Islamic scholars acknowledge that, in the 7th century, the sunnah, or tradition of the prophet Muhammad, was to allow women to pray in the main hall of his mosque in Medina without any barrier in front of them.
“While the free world awaits a Muslim reformation, the leader of the free world shows blatant disregard for gender equality by visiting a mosque that treats females like second-class citizens,” says Raheel Raza, a Pakistani-Canadian activist, author and cofounder of the Muslim Reform Movement, a new initiative that we support, advocating for peace, women’s rights and secular governance.
“This makes our work as activists extremely difficult because equality is one of the main tenets of our reform movement.”
Five hundred and fifty Syrian refugees have been admitted into the United States since the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) carried out terrorist attacks in Paris last November, and of those, two (0.3 percent) are Christians.
Over the past week, another 24 Syrian refugees have been admitted, including one male Orthodox Christian.
The religious breakdown of the 550 is 534 Sunni Muslims, three Shi’ites, ten others identified in State Department Refugee Processing Center data as simply “Moslems,” one Orthodox Christian, one Greek Orthodox Christian, and one refugee identified as “other religion.”
The two Christians are both male, as is the refugee identified as “other religion.” Of the 534 Sunnis, 275 (51.4 percent) are male, 259 (48.5 percent) female. Two of the three Shi’ites are male, as are seven of the ten “Moslems.”
The Obama administration plans to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. during fiscal year 2016, which began on October 1, 2015.
A passenger plane bound for Djibouti was forced to make an emergency landing today, minutes after taking off from Mogadishu, due to a hole opening up in the plane after an apparent explosion, according to aviation experts.
On its Facebook page, Daallo Airlines, the national airline of Somalia, said in a statement that an Airbus 321 had "experienced an incident shortly after takeoff" from the airport in Mogadishu, Somalia.
"The aircraft landed safely and all our passengers were evacuated safely," the statement said. "A thorough investigation is being conducted by Somalia Civil Aviation Authority."
The hole in the plane's fuselage reached from the ceiling to the floor, according to photos of the damage. The aircraft was carrying 74 passengers and crew, authorities said. A Somali aviation official said that two passengers had been slightly injured in the incident, according to the Associated Press.
The official, however, wouldn't provide any other details regarding injuries and did not confirm reports that an explosion may have triggered the fire.
Passengers aboard the Airbus 321 said they heard a loud bang and then saw smoke. As the cabin depressurized, oxygen masks deployed. Some of the 74 passengers were forced to move to the back of the jetliner as the plane descended, according to the AP.
"I don't know if it was a bomb or an electric shock -- but we heard a bang inside the plane," said passenger Mohamed Ali, according to the AP.
"The thing that's most interesting to me is that if you look at the outside of the airplane, some force from within the airplane pushed the sides of the aircraft open. You can see how it's peeled back and you can actually see the streaking from soot down the back side, which would suggest quite definitively that this was a bomb of some kind, probably something about a hand-grenade size that would have made this hole in the side of the airplane," said ABC News aviation consultant ret. Col. Steve Ganyard.

Next Cruz sends a letter to Iowans threatening to expose IF they caucused and WHO they voted for. I don't think this is possible- and then last night WHILE VOTING-…

Today…oh, he APOLOGIZES
Meanwhile Rubio is CERTAINLY going to be the inheritor of all Rovian/Sunnunu/C pundit glory.
And Trump comes across with one of the more hideous tweets about voters in quite a while.
Good to insult the voters.
Everyone has to step up their game WITHOUT lies. Cruz has almost LOST any confidence I have in the way he operates.
Trump is sulkingly insulting.

In 1942, the U.S. Supreme Court established the doctrine by a 9–0 decision in Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire. It held that "insulting or 'fighting words,' those that by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace" are among the "well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech the prevention and punishment of [which] … have never been thought to raise any constitutional problem."
Chaplinsky, a Jehovah's Witness, had purportedly told a New Hampshire town marshal who was attempting to prevent him from preaching that he was "a God-damned racketeer" and "a damned fascist" and was arrested. The court upheld the arrest and wrote in its decision that
There are certain well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech, the prevention and punishment of which have never been thought to raise any constitutional problem. These include the lewd and obscene, the profane, the libelous, and the insulting or "fighting words" those that by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace. It has been well observed that such utterances are no essential part of any exposition of ideas, and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and morality.
— Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, 1942
The court has continued to uphold the doctrine but also steadily narrowed the grounds on which fighting words are held to apply. InStreet v. New York(1969),the court overturned a statute prohibitingflag-burningand verbally abusing the flag, holding that mereoffensivenessdoes not qualify as "fighting words".
In similar manner, inCohen v. California(1971), Cohen's wearing a jacket that said "fuck the draft" did not constitute uttering fighting words since there had been no "personally abusive epithets"; the Court held the phrase to be protected speech. In later decisions—Gooding v. Wilson(1972) andLewis v. New Orleans(1974)—the Court invalidated convictions of individuals who cursed police officers, finding that the ordinances in question were unconstitutionallyoverbroad.
In R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul (1992), the Court overturned a statute prohibiting speech or symbolic expression that "arouses anger, alarm or resentment in others on the basis of race, color, creed, religion or gender" on the grounds that, even if the specific statute was limited to fighting words, it was unconstitutionally content-based and viewpoint-based because of the limitation to race-/religion-/sex-based fighting words. The Court, however, made it repeatedly clear that the City could have pursued "any number" of other avenues, and reaffirmed the notion that "fighting words" could be properly regulated by municipal or state governments.
In Snyder v. Phelps (2011), dissenting Justice Samuel Alito likened the protests of the Westboro Baptist Church members to fighting words and of a personal character, and thus not protected speech. The majority disagreed and stated that the protester's speech was not personal but public, and that local laws which can shield funeral attendees from protesters are adequate for protecting those in times of emotional distress.
It sounds pretty tough to restrict speech.
As it should be.
We may be limited to infitration and post action arrests, and .suits
So if you get raped in France do 60% of the French think you are responsible?
Are there too many Jews in France? Are they too rich and is the media
dominated by them? These are some of the opinions sought by a Ipsos
poll on racism in France. Published on Sunday in the French weekly Le
Journal Du Dimanche, the survey results have caused a real stir.
The survey is the completion of an 18-month study on French attitudes to racism, religion, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
Fully 60 percent believe that Jews bear at least some responsibility for recent rises in anti-Semitism.
You loudmouth, stiff necked JUICE need to learn your place and STFU in our nation (?). File Under : HOW AMERICA WAS BORN
If you wonder how Europe is doing compared to the past….
the question “Do you think a racist reaction can be justified”, 30
percent said yes, some 91 percent of people said that Jews in France
“are very insular” and 56 percent that they “have a lot of power” and
are richer than average.
The study also suggests more than 40% feel that Jews are “a little too present in the media.”
the French expelled all Jews from France by edict FOUR TIMES ALREADY in
their history. Apparently they might be hoping for self expulsion for
Pas de probleme, eh?
Karl Rove and the rest of the GOP establishment are clapping like seals this morning because Marco Rubio scored in the top-three tier of the Iowa Caucuses. Marco Rubio is the establishment GOP's anointed one. That's been true since at least October 2015.
Why Trump's Muslim statements BOTHER ME enough to get to the edge of not being able to vote for him -even though I agree with 100% on border and trade
No singling out of any RELIGIOUS group, on THAT basis is, I believe, permissable in the USA, per the Constitution
Outside the USA, it certainly IS permissable, but disgusting especially since the very same result could have been obtained by listing nations of origin, and therefore Trump PURPOSEFULLY decided to say MUSLIMS.
Why did he choose to say muslims?
In fact why not say he favored all legal immigration, was 100% set against allowing any ILLEGAL immigration at all, and pursuant to that goal had a list of temporarily banned nations which make common sense to all americans?
Further, banning muslims, even for a week is an impractical and unworkable solution.
"Hi, I'm an assyrian christian, my family are all dead and I'm from Al Hind-tit, Iraq where the town hall is rubble and I'm seeking asylum in the USA. Here's my passport" (PS manufactured and 'aged' in Raqqa)
Why not temporarily stop ALL immigration until we 'figure out what the hell is going on'?
Who are you going to call?
You happy with the State dept overseeing that?
It's not that Trump HATES muslims, it's that he is willing to single out ANY RELIGIOUS group on the basis of their unifying quality.

In order to

All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

"We are looking forward to the day when moderate Muslims will be able to take control of their governments, their educational systems, and their law and order, so the Western world could resume mutual constructive relations based on friendship and respect. The whole world is looking forward to that day and praying for a peaceful Middle East. The ball is now in the Muslim world's court."

"An Islamic regime must be serious in every field," explained Ayatollah Khomeini. "There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humour in Islam. There is no fun in Islam."
"I want to be very, very clear, however: I understand and agree with the analysis of the problem. There is an imminent threat. It manifested itself on 9/11. It's real and grave. It is as serious a threat as Stalinism and National Socialism were. Let's not pretend it isn't." ~~~~~Bono~~~~~
