Pope Francis: “Muslim Terrorism Does Not Exist”

According to the Religion of Peace website 2016 there were 2476 Islamic attacks in 59 countries, in which 21239 people were killed and 26677 injured.

From Breitbart:
In an impassioned address Friday, Pope Francis denied the existence of Islamic terrorism, while simultaneously asserting that “the ecological crisis is real.”
“Christian terrorism does not exist, Jewish terrorism does not exist, and Muslim terrorism does not exist. They do not exist,” Francis said in his speech to a world meeting of populist movements.
What he apparently meant is that not all Christians are terrorists and not all Muslims are terrorists—a fact evident to all—yet his words also seemed to suggest that no specifically Islamic form of terrorism exists in the world, an assertion that stands in stark contradiction to established fact.
“No people is criminal or drug-trafficking or violent,” Francis said, while also suggesting—as he has on other occasions—that terrorism is primarily a result of economic inequalities rather than religious beliefs.
“The poor and the poorer peoples are accused of violence yet, without equal opportunities, the different forms of aggression and conflict will find a fertile terrain for growth and will eventually explode.”
The Pope also reiterated his conviction that all religions promote peace and that the danger of violent radicalization exists equally in all religions.

MERKEL WELCOMES MORE REFUGEES: 'ISLAM NOT SOURCE OF TERROR'

"We Must Import Millions of Fucking-Age Muslim Men,
Because I'm Horny As Hell"

The embattled leader says Europe has an obligation to take displaced people from Syria and Iraq. She also said Islam "is not the cause of terrorism" and that combatting extremism needs the cooperation of Muslim countries. In a wide-ranging speech at a Munich security conference, the German chief also vowed to work closely with Vladimir Putin's Russia in the fight with ISIS in the Middle East.

I Believe We're At An Impasse: Trump Declares NYT, NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN Are ‘The Enemy of The American People!’

I hope Epa will forgive me, because in a sense this post is a repeat of a portion of his post from earlier today.

Epa says:
When I read the President's counter-punch tweet, I was aghast. My view was that the media had COMPLETELY lost my faith and my trust to REPORT reality, but enemy of the people was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over a line.
Especially from the president.
Like the moment Trump was so offensive towards McCain (who we can see in his comment OUTSIDE THE USA yesterday STILL takes it very personally) in what seems like archaeology, now. Over the line, right?
Except.....Except.... Except...
Ok, so here are my thoughts:

1) The News Media is important. And, labeling the media "the enemy" really is the tactic of a Dictator who wants his followers to avoid information contrary to his agenda.

2) Much of the News Media has proven itself to be willing to bend the truth, and outright lie, to serve an agenda which serves the Left wing. For instance, I can not remember the last time a Republican Presidential candidate was not branded a "racist" by mainstream news media organizations. These same Mainstream news outlets hate Trump even more than any previous candidate, and they have clearly unleashed an anarchic ideological war against him, in which truth does not matter at all. They will look for the single little needle of irrationality in the haystack of truth claims in a Press Conference. And they will outright lie when it suits their campaign to delegitimize, and even unseat him.

So, here are my questions:

Is the media the Enemy?

Is it necessary to trust the media?

Has the media become an overpriced retailer of information, and should we just buy direct from the source?

UPDATE - When I say, "Buy direct from the source", I mean,

Should we just get our information directly from the Twitter feed of whatever politician is generating the story through his actions?

Oh, and by the way:

Poll: More voters trust White House to tell the truth than trust the media to do so

***The Counterpuncher*** Beijing, Moscow, Teheran, I **SINCERELY** hope you are watching

After the INCREDIBLE Press Conference we have the premier reporter for NBC News:
And then....
Now I would never have said this, in EITHER case. After all, the 'press' is a business whose profit determines whether it exists or not.
If you notice Trump, every time he attacks, mentions the word FAILING, and he is going after the core - the advertising that makes the profits, and if the ads decrease the market WILL REACT.

So if the press is reformed or end up in Yekaterinburg, American Style, and Chuck Todd is replaced by a tag team of Lewis Black, Don Rickles, and Adam Sandler (balance, folks), a big SO WHAT? Besides, Rickles may be able to get more out anyone in the hot seat.

 But I digress ...

Except...
In the interval between Trump's tweet, and Todd's offer of peace (NO MAS?), conservative press glitterati like SE Cupp, and Steve Hayes all lined up in Defense of their profession (BUSINESS, people, business in the end - like selling SHOES) .

So here is where I profess Trump has more of what it takes to WIN at any level than me.

 He doesn't care.
You must be bloody on the floor and he doesn't care about onlookers.
If you hit him back after he hits you back, he will hit back harder.

Meaner.
More viciously.
Until you feel in jeopardy.
It's for keeps.
So, Putin, Xi, Kim, Khameinei .... I hope you are all taking note.

Trump doesn't care

Congress Probes U.S. Funding for Radical Soros Groups, Questionable Left-Wing Causes In Europe: Democrat Mega Donor Now Has The Attention Of Congress

Hah:
Concerns about Soros’ involvement most recently were raised by the Hungarian prime minister, who last week lashed out at the Soros “empire” and accused it of deplying “tons of money and international heavy artillery.”
Former Macedonian PM Nikola Gruevski says Soros has a “decisive influence” on his country’s politics. “If it were not for George Soros behind it with all the millions he pours into Macedonia, the entire network of NGOs, media, politicians, inside and out … the economy would be stronger, we would have had more new jobs,” he said in a recent interview with Macedonia’s Republika newspaper.
Lee’s staff recently met with Macedonia lawmakers, who also passed on a white paper from a citizen’s initiative called “Stop Operation Soros” which alleges U.S. money has been funding hard-left causes in the country — including violent riots in the streets, as well as a Macedonian version of Saul Alinsky’s far-left handbook “Rules for Radicals.”

Leaked Emails: Dem State Leaders Think Obama’s New Organizing Army is ‘Grade A Bullshit’

For anyone who thinks Paul Sperry's "OFA is Obama's Shadow Government" spiel is paranoid lunacy, well, here's how the DNC feels about OFA:
It is difficult to overstate just how enraged state Democratic activists and leaders are with Organizing for Action (OFA), the political and community-organizing army that grew out of Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns.
The nonprofit, which functions as a sort of parallel-Democratic National Committee, was founded to mobilize Democratic voters and supporters in defense of President Obama’s, and the Democratic Party’s, agenda.
Instead, the organization has drawn the intense ire, both public and private, of grassroots organizers and state parties that are convinced that OFA inadvertently helped decimate Democrats at the state and local level, while Republicans cemented historic levels of power and Donald J. Trump actually became leader of the free world.
These intra-party tensions aren’t going away, especially now that OFA “relaunched” itself last week to protect the Affordable Care Act, boost turnout at congressional townhalls, and train grassroots organizers gearing up for the Trump era.
“This is some GRADE A Bullshit right here,” Stephen Handwerk, executive director of the Louisiana Democratic Party, wrote in a private Democratic-listserv email obtained by The Daily Beast. Handwerk was reacting to news of OFA’s post-election retooling, which was shared “without comment” to the group of state-level Dems by Crystal Kay Perkins, executive director for Texas Democrats.
“It also to me seems TONE DEAF—we have lost over 1,000 seats in the past 8 years… all because of this crap,” Handwerk continued. “Let’s get through the next two weeks—but then we gotta figure this out and keep the pressure on. WOW.” Others on the thread shared these sentiments.
“Yes, it sure is,” Katie Mae Simpson, executive director for the Maine Democratic Party, replied. “OFA showed up in Maine, organized a press conference on saving [Obamacare], with one of our Dem legislative leaders speaking, all without ever mentioning that they were in state and organizing. They hired someone I know, which is somewhat helpful, but my god, they don’t have a very good alliance-building process.”
Such grievances, though expressed privately, are nothing new among state Democratic Party leadership. “[With] all due respect to President Obama, OFA was created as a shadow party because Obama operatives had no faith in state parties,” Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb told Politico last week.

Trump's Press Conference. Jarring!

Pod people are being created.  Hordes of them.

Last night and this morning, I watched some of CNN's and MSNBC's coverage of yesterday's press conference held by Trump.

CNN and MSNBC are bizarrely disconnected from what really transpired.

At one point on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Mika Brzezinski (and the daughter of Zbigniew Kazimierz Brzezinski), the woman on the anchor desk, rolled her eyes to the heavens as she said the word "President." Following by a sigh, of course,

What alarms me is how many Americans will never actually watch the press conference. They'll just assume that Trump is unhinged because CNN and MSNBC have said so. These same Americans avoid Fox News like the plague. Not that some on Fox News aren't circling like sharks, too.

And you can bet that Trump is being excoriated this morning in classrooms all over the country — middle school through graduate level. And not only in social studies classes. English classes will also be infested with these "discussions."

President Trump is being presented as "unhinged" and unfit to be President. The same is coming from many supposedly on the Right: David Brooks and Michael Gerson, just to name two examples.

Watch your back.  At your workplace and at home.

THIS IS WAR!

Trump's New Glasnost, Bypassing the Media and Taking The Information Directly To The People

From the Daily Times:
... while journalism must adhere to basic rules of asking *who *what *when *where *how and *why, there is another question which requires consideration. Who benefits? Who benefits from any chain of events, a level of misfortune, infamy or praise? When penning our thoughts... who benefits?
Who benefits when a Presidential Twitter feed presents as the concierge of Glasnost? As virtual invitees into truncated versions of White House meetings we are given the raw material for news. It is offered to us shortly before or after it makes it into the spin cycle of mainstream media. We imagine ourselves the Jerusalem Bureau Chief for the New York Times. We are practically Thomas Friedman! These are heady days! At least that is the way it is affecting this journalist.
But who benefits? Is it just me? Or is it the American people? If not the American people... whom?
Our President is running an effective program of hand torch populism. We are being admitted to the White House. Selective views of important national meetings are up for grabs. Light in hand, the President is giving us a peek of his administration and how it works. We are offered small-batch news. News with a target in mind. And the target is both the logic and sentimentality of the American people.
Social media platforms are working to give Donald J. Trump a competitive edge. This business model is a boomerang. The president wings the news right past the noses of dishonest media and then reclaims the product at home base.
The giants of broadcast and print media have shown such vitriolic hatred for our political outsider president that it has become increasingly necessary to take the message directly to the electorate.

Trump’s Complaint – FAKE NEWS, 2 examples, BOTH Yesterday, both AFTER Playoff Level Presser

The root of this, AGAIN, goes back to the open HOSTILITY, and CONTEMPT much the press is PROUD to display with regard to Trump, and the reason for it.

The ideology of ‘TRUMP IS SO EXCEPTIONALLY (FASCIST, STALINIST, HATER, DICTATOR, RACIST, MISOGYNISTIC) dangerous we are excused from all conscience and perceived bad or even illegal actions’ in our noble purpose

Example 1:
Admiral Harward turns down the position of National Security Adviser to the president. Considering the names in history, and the influence ON American history some of the predecessors in this position have had, this had to be a surprise.
Here is the REPORTING:
“This job requires 24 hours a day, seven days a week focus and commitment to do it right,” Mr. Harward said in a statement. “I currently could not make that commitment.”
He added that since retiring from a 40-year military career, he now had “the opportunity to address financial and family issues that would have been challenging in this position.”
Two senior administration officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter, confirmed that Mr. Harward cited family and financial considerations in turning down the post.

But his decision reflected the continuing upheaval in Mr. Trump’s White House, which was rocked this week by the resignation of Michael T. Flynn, the national security adviser, quickly followed by the abrupt withdrawal of Andrew Puzder, his nominee for secretary of labor. -NYT

Of course the former Seal seems to have had a clear priority after serving, and the NYT could easily have REPORTED the following for the last paragraph.
President Trump’s requirement that advisers at this level submit to a ban on lobbying the govt appears to have figured significantly in Admiral Harward’s decision, as it already has with General Jack Keane turning down the post of SecDef for the exact same kinds of reasons.
This last has NO qualifications, and NEITHER criticism, or laudatory phrasing.
Both Flynn, whose hardheaded realism, and proper contact with Russia probably telling Ivan’s amb. ‘look we are going to review everything’ to FORESTALL any untoward Russian reaction to Obama’s (proper) sanctions was a SERVICE, and now Harward are a loss. But Flynn lost the trust of the VP (making his position untenable) and Harward simply wants to make his family as comfortable and happy as he possibly can, and would not commit to endless days and nights, and a lobbying ban, limiting earnings potential. This is no dishonor, after all Colin Powell would NOT run for President.
Theory: the ‘press’ has NEVER before faced open, unrelenting challenge from any Republican elected official to the CORE of their operating principles, and has no response to this criticism of them except to accelerate hostility.
Chuck Todd has stated BALDLY that Trump’s statements about the press are un-American, and other MAJOR news figures have accused Trump, in his direct critical thinking of their professional responsibilities, of an attack on the first amendment.
Dudes… the press is a business like any other. You can all be swept away by superiors or sales failure, and the void will be filled because reporting IS A MARKET VEHICLE FOR ADVERTISEMENT, and those who replace you with direct factual observation will benefit.
Example 2)
The ‘fact checker’ giving 4 Pinocchios to Trump’s claim about Hillary and uranium to Russia
April 23, 2015, NYT

Cash Flowed to Clinton Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal

The headline on the website Pravda trumpeted President Vladimir V. Putin’s latest coup, its nationalistic fervor recalling an era when its precursor served as the official mouthpiece of the Kremlin: “Russian Nuclear Energy Conquers the World.”
The article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.
But the untold story behind that story is one that involves not just the Russian president, but also a former American president and a woman who would like to be the next one.
Factcheck.org
Trump wrongly said that Hillary Clinton “gave” Russia 20 percent of the uranium in the United States. Clinton was one of nine votes approving the deal. She alone couldn’t have stopped the deal, which involved 20 percent of U.S. production capacity, not stocks, and the uranium can’t go to Russia without export licenses.
Does anyone think if the SecSate stood on a chair and said ‘this stinks’ for all to hear, this would have proceeded, not to mention the moneys which went to the Clinton Foundation, OR the fact that owning the production, and getting it to a nation which we CAN ship to means we CAN’T USE IT, just as we are modernizing the entire nuclear arsenal
SHE APPROVED. STATE DEPT APPROVED.
WE SEE. WE HEAR. WE OBSERVE.
Also humorous are the quotes around “gave”.
Torturous ‘logic’ to nitpick into a 4 Pinocchio lie the word ‘gave’ instead of ‘sold’, ‘was bribed’, ‘sought reward for the transaction’ is PRECISELY what damages the press so badly, especially when it purports to be a fact check organization.

Trump may not always be ‘correct’ in his statements. He arrogantly, and annoyingly at this point, continues to strut the electoral college numbers, but just as he was about the electorate which gave him the victory and the reasons for it, when it comes to the BULK of the press, their attitude, their coverage, AND THEIR YELLOW JOURNALISTIC INTENT, he is correct, and that’s the sad truth. And every day, with reporting that goes on like this, the loss of faith by the public in media, the division within the republic, to a large extent GENERATED by the media, gets deeper and wider, and the only response so far is ACCELERATE to victory.
How’s that going?
The Republicans are now ONE STATEHOUSE CONTROL AWAY from being able to call of Convention of States.

Trump’s Climate Plans Just Made the Media’s Heads Explode

From Breitbart:
I’ve just watched the London liberal media’s heads exploding like ripe watermelons. It was great – a bit like that No Pressure video that the enviro-loons made a few years ago, only better because this time the victims weren’t blameless schoolchildren but grisly, puffed-up, righteously eco, Trump-and-Brexit-hating TV and newspaper Environment Correspondents, all of whom hate my guts. (They hate yours too, so don’t get smug.)
The occasion was a press conference hosted by the Global Warming Policy Foundation for Myron Ebell, head of the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency transition team. Satan’s Emissary, as liberals prefer to think of him. Ebell had come to tell them about Trump’s plans for the environment and energy, which I won’t repeat here because you know them already. (It’s going to be beautiful, that’s all you need to remember.)
No, the reason I went wasn’t to hear what Ebell had to say but to watch how his audience reacted. You know that scene in The Omen when Damien’s parents try to take him into a church? It was a bit like that. Or maybe the one in The Exorcist, where Regan’s head does a 360 degree spin. They hated it. (Especially the bit where Ebell told them that Trump would definitely be pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate treaty)
They couldn’t believe what they were hearing. They curled their lips. They laced their questions with the bitterest scorn. But they didn’t really tune into Ebell’s measured, silken, soft-spoken answers because, hell, they knew what he was saying just had to be wrong and they didn’t really understand what he meant anyway.
The reporter who set the tone – and if nothing else, you’ve got to admire his honesty – was the one from Channel 4 News who told Ebell: “It will occur to you that this room is full of people like myself who consider that nothing you say has any basis in fact. So what you’ve been telling us is essentially meaningless.”
Ebell replied with some painful home truths. “Elections are surprising things…” he began and went on to explain to the mystified audience why and how it was that Brexit happened and Trump happened. Basically, he argued – perhaps channelling Michael Gove – people have had enough of the “Expertariat”. And with good reason: “The expert class is full of arrogance and hubris.”
I did debate with myself beforehand whether or not to a five hour round trip just to attend this one hour conference. (There was another Breitbart piece I’d been planning, which might have been cleverer or more interesting or got more traffic, I don’t know.) But, hell, it was worth it for a number of reasons.
One was the joy of watching the feline Ebell goading the audience with his amused erudition, sweet politeness, and crushing one liners. He’s a cultured, fearsomely intelligent man: Cambridge-educated. (Bizarrely, he was a friend there of Oliver Wetwin, though I don’t think their politics much align these days.)
When the press essentially accused Ebell of representing evil oil interests, he replied by noting the vast power and corruption of what he called the Climate Industrial Complex – from grant-grubbing scientists to regulation-hungry rent-seeking businesses – which feeds on the global warming scam.
When someone invoked battery technology and Elon Musk, he quietly wondered how “the largest recipient of federal taxpayer subsidies in the history of the world” could be represented as any kind of role model.
When asked about the Endangered Species Act he replied – to audible gasps of disgust and hatred – that he’d been trying to reform it for years (without much success) because it didn’t do much for endangered species but did an awful lot of damage to private property and land use rights.

"It is not something new"

An adherent of the Religion of Peace describes the punishment for apostasy:

The key difference between ISIS and Muslims in the West is that ISIS can enforce Islamic laws in the lands under their control. Muslims in the West are too few in numbers for now. That's why the open borders of Europe, Canada, and the US are a long term disaster. It allows Muslims to build up their armies and then inflict their evil ways. They are not interested in assimilation or peace. Theirs is a centuries-old cult of domination and war.

The Kids Aren’t All Right: What the Gender-Identity Revolution Has in Common with 1960s’ Drug Culture

I Got My Lingam Swingin'

From Public Discourse:

Tightly bound up with contemporary culture’s celebration of youthful novelty is a kind of collective amnesia. Nearly every facile liberation dreamed of in the hearts of the young is a false awakening, a recurrence of the same themes with similar characters playing out familiar roles. The copycat suicides sparked by The Sorrows of Young Werther, for instance, are seen echoed in mimetic suicidal longings associated with Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, and recent teenage suicide clusters. The intemperance of the young is often painted with a romantically lurid rhetorical brush, giving it the appearance of a depth and originality that it actually lacks. Sometimes the brush can be laid down so heavily that these fads are mistaken for revolutions.
The LSD consciousness-expansion movement of the late sixties and the campus gender-identity fixation of today are two examples of these counterfeit revolutions. The two might initially appear very different, but they share similar intellectual assumptions and therefore make analogous mistakes. Most significantly, both take rationality and physical fact as limitations to freedom, impediments to be transcended, instead of appropriate cornerstones of political freedom itself. They’re too incoherent to be rationally communicated and too individualistic to resist anomie. And so, denuded of genuine revolutionary potential, these children’s crusades cycle through failures.
Psychedelic Gnosticism
Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception, a seminal text of sixties campus mind expansion, considers the human body itself to be a limitation to human potential. He writes,
Each person is at each moment capable of remembering all that has ever happened to him and of perceiving everything that is happening everywhere in the universe. The function of the brain and nervous system is to protect us from being overwhelmed and confused by this mass of largely useless and irrelevant knowledge, by shutting out most of what we should otherwise perceive or remember at any moment, and leaving only that very small and special selection which is likely to be practically useful. According to such a theory, each one of us is potentially Mind at Large.
The concept of total recall has a prestigious Romantic literary pedigree (read Coleridge’s Biographia Literaria), but Mind at Large is a relatively recent concept. According to this notion, the brain is a closed door. Mind-altering drugs pry open that door and allow us to experience . . . what? According to Huxley, “an ‘obscure knowledge’ that All is in all—that All is actually each.” Obscure indeed.
The gnostic wisdom of Huxley’s expanded mind can’t be communicated using language. This is, as they say, a feature, not a bug. Huxley’s goal, and the goal of all the quasi-mystical seekers, was to abandon physicality and coherence in one fell swoop. Shorn of specificity, history, society, and scientific fact, the psychedelic experience of the bourgeois seeker collapses into an infinite regression of incommunicable and cryptic desires that have conveniently “transcended” the field on which they can be attacked, defended, or analyzed.
The defrocked Harvard professor Timothy Leary probably did more than anyone to popularize consciousness expansion on college campuses across America. He wrote in The Psychedelic Experience,
A psychedelic experience is a journey to new realms of consciousness. The scope and content of the experience is limitless, but its characteristic features are the transcendence of verbal concepts, of spacetime dimensions, and of the ego or identity. Such experiences of enlarged consciousness can occur in a variety of ways: sensory deprivation, yoga exercises, disciplined meditation, religious or aesthetic ecstasies, or spontaneously. Most recently they have become available to anyone through the ingestion of psychedelic drugs such as LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, DMT, etc. Of course, the drug does not produce the transcendent experience. It merely acts as a chemical key—it opens the mind, frees the nervous system of its ordinary patterns and structures.
Here we recognize the vague and ineffable transcendence, but drugs themselves are described as a “physical key” which don’t actually produce but merely enable the experience. Leary’s new realms of consciousness require a physical launchpad—a hit of acid—but are somehow supposed to transcend the mundane physicality of the drug itself. It’s not very convincing, because there is no mechanism with which to convince.
Gender Fluidity is Today’s "Mind Expansion"
Anyone with a passing acquaintance with gender politics today will find this very familiar. Of course, the parallels aren’t perfect. The consciousness-expansion movement of the sixties took on the language of Jungian depth psychology and donned beatnik fashions, while the campus gender politics of today are a kind of dogmatic postmodern anti-essentialism lovingly studded with therapy jargon. But there’s enough of what Wittgenstein called “family resemblance” to put them side by side.
Standing in the role of consciousness is gender itself, a term that has become so fluid as to mean everything and nothing all at once. To become “gender-fluid” is a kind of contemporary “mind expansion,” a subjective experience elevated to the achievement of a higher ontological state.
What does it mean to experience the universe all at once? Is it similar to what it feels like to be “genderqueer”? Both seem to exist in an ineffable space beyond communication and, conveniently, critical analysis.
As Andrew T. Walker and Denny Burk recently wrote here at Public Discourse,
Indeed, this is the crux of the matter that plagues the transgender movement. It is based not on evidence, but on the ideology of expressive individualism—the idea that one’s identity is self-determined, that one should live out that identity, and that everyone else must respect and affirm that identity, no matter what it is. Expressive individualism requires no moral argument or empirical justification for its claims, no matter how absurd or controverted they may be.
Correct. But it does require expression, the “physical key” that unlocks the infinite self. In the case of gender, it would be “presentation”—the expression of physical appearances that have typically belonged to one gender in very recent Western history. If experiencing all the knowledge of the universe at once requires a hit of acid, then experiencing womanhood requires a dress. But, of course, we must take people at their word that both experiences are more than the sum of their purchases.
Experiences of mind expansion, ego death, or internal fluctuations of gender have nothing to say of our obligations to coherence, much less our moral obligations to each other. They are examples of Foucault’s “personal insurrection,” which is premised on a fathomless and ambiguous critique of power (here we see the postmodern pedigree in full force) that does less to revolutionize social relations than to institutionalize social outcasts within the current power structure.
By keeping its focus on “problematizing” the metaphysical foundations of reality, such a critique leaves vital political questions unanswered. In this reach beyond the material world, the au courantlanguage of subjectivity has been, as much as anything else, a kind of evasion.
Ideal Consumers, Not Revolutionaries
This “bold reach beyond,” in both mind expansion and gender fluidity, finds an interesting common forefather in Max Stirner. Social and intellectual genealogies can be messy, but the nineteenth century German philosopher seems as obvious an ancestor as any. His work attempts to undermine both traditional religious piety and nascent radical communitarian politics by identifying the ego as the source of all meaning. Stirner writes in The Ego and His Own, “Truth cannot step forward as you do, cannot move, change, develop; truth awaits and recruits everything from you, and itself is only through you; for it exists only—in your head.” The subjective self is made the source of all reality, shedding all vestiges of anything resembling objectivity or fact—elements fundamental to any meaningful social change or ethical categories beyond self-satisfaction.
This lineage, traced from Stirner through Nietzsche and Foucault to modern-day emotivism, can be seen in full flower in the “otherkin” movement, which is the next logical step of identity solipsism. A VICE article describes otherkin as “people who identify as partially or entirely nonhuman. A dragon, a lion, a fox—you name it—there is probably someone out there who feels like they are more these things than they are human.” Of course, such persons can only assert that they “feel like a fox.” Such feelings can’t be verified or described.
As Wittgenstein said, if a lion could speak, we wouldn’t be able to understand him. Neither can people who claim to be otherkin understand what a fox feels like. Nor can “voidkin,” who literally identify as void, understand what nothingness feels like or know if absence indeed has any consciousness at all.
These emotivist reveries, the “cloudkin” who thinks he’s a cloud and the acid seeker who, ironically enough, also imagines herself as a cloud, engage in the furthest thing from political action. They’re abdicating the common objective world that binds us together, in favor of fantastical reveries.
Terry Eagleton writes that postmodernism’s “nervousness of such concepts as truth has alarmed the bishops and charmed the business executives, just as its compulsion to place words like ‘reality’ in scare quotes unsettles the pious Bürger in the bosom of his family but is music to his ears in the advertising agency.”
To entertain the illusions of a completely malleable self makes one into an ideal consumer, not a revolutionary.
Long faded are the echoes of the cry of the First International, “No rights without duties, no duties without rights.” They are traded instead for the petulant Situationist motto, “Workers of all countries, enjoy!”
Elliot Neaman, commenting on the failures of last century’s campus revolutionaries, writes:
There were actually at least two countercultures in 1968. The street mutineers dreamed of a political revolution, which was acted out as theater, using old scripts. In the second, politics became personal; emancipation came in the form of consumer choices. The first was collectivist and failed, the second was libertarian, individualistic, futuristic, and carried the day.
Esoteric and incommunicable experiences of the individual that have been elevated to a pseudo-political platform can be easily co-opted by an economy eager to sell disposable identities. The monetization of the gender movement is all around us. Think, for example, of the dating app Tinder’s thirty-seven gender options.
Marx notoriously said that history repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce. But how do we categorize the third, fourth, and fifth reiterations?
Thinking that you’re a cloud isn’t a bold revolutionary move. It’s dangerously delusional.

Draft maritime law revisions say China may bar foreignships from passing through its waters

China is to revise its 1984 Maritime Traffic Safety Law, which would allow the relevantauthorities to bar some foreign ships from passing through Chinese territorial waters.
The Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council announced Tuesday it is soliciting publicopinions on the revisions.
The draft would empower maritime authorities to prevent foreign ships from enteringChinese waters if it is decided that the ships may harm traffic safety and order.
The draft revisions stipulate that authorities will be able to designate specific areas andtemporarily bar foreign ships from passing through those areas according to their ownassessment of maritime traffic safety.
The revisions are based on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and Chinese laws on the sea, adjacent areas and exclusive economic zones, the office said.

Fire those you cannot trust completely Mr. Trump.
COMPLETELY.
If you transit these results of Obama’s foolish actions or non-actions, only then will you face the Wall, Obamacare, Tax Reform, SCOTUS approval, free trade reform, and immigration reform from dangerous nations. Oh, and peace in the middle east.
You must be able trust YOUR EMPLOYEES, or get RID OF THEM.
DO IT SOON.

Meanwhile, In Paris

Paris protests continue as hundreds of rioters set off flares and ‘loot shops’ over alleged rape of young black man ‘Theo’ by French cops
Tension have been high in council estates in the Paris suburbs since February 2nd, when a man identified only as Theo was beaten up and allegedly raped in. The youth worker said he was sodomised by police with a truncheon, as well as being racially abused, spat at and beaten around his genitals. One unidentified officer has been charged with rape, and three more with assault since Theo was sent to hospital. He underwent emergency surgery, and has since been visited by President Francois Hollande, who has appealed for calm. Police stations and squad cars have been attacked since, along with patrols trying to operate around France.
