In Britain till lo...I can't understand the problem. In Britain till long after the war people attended Halloween parties dressed as Hitler as well as the usual Frankensteins, Draculas, Mummies, Devils, Skeletons, Spooks etc. Some nowadays dress with Bin Laden masks and Motoon style Bombheads with the ladettes in burqas with 'Does my bomb look big in this?' written on the arse.

In Britain, Halloween fancy dress is always something evil or scary or in very bad taste.

The reason for this, as explained by my Christian schoolteacher (who unlike many modern evangelicals approved of Halloween) is that Halloween is a Christianised Celtic pagan festival.

In pre-Christian times people were afraid of demons etc. But Christian missionaries liberated the Celts from these superstitions and encouraged them to mock what they saw as the powers of evil.

If you fear Nazis and terrorists then surely you should mock them, rather than increasing their aura of untouchability by making reference to them un-PC.

Halloween was always intended to be offensive.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19209018.post-1162574294754492742006-11-03T17:18:00.000+00:002006-11-03T17:18:00.000+00:00Damn, I wish I had been there in my Beatrix Kiddo ...Damn, I wish I had been there in my Beatrix Kiddo costume.
