Please dear Crocodile, eat me last!

Last Wednesday, the German newsmagazine FOCUS printed an article, which I have translated. My English hasn't deteriorated, it IS badly written, but the content is stunning nevertheless:

Internet Curse against Islam Critic
16.08.06, 12:12
The German Office for the Protection of the Constitution consider a curse at an Internet platform for Muslims as a license to kill. German judges don't even want to see it as defamation.

How subtle will a supposed call for the murder of an Islam critic have to be so that German judges won't even recognise it as a defamation of the target? The case, which the Higher Regional Court Oldenburg will have to settle within the next couple of weeks is a potential lecture about the limits of the freedom of opinion and speech.
Yavuz Özoguz from Delmenhorst [near Bremen] hosts one of the busiest Internet platforms for Muslims in Germany. He says that Muslim-Markt can boast 50,000 to 70,000 visitors per week. 2005 he had written a prayer in one of his Internet fora, which cursed the author and Islam-critic Hans-Peter Raddatz. The disputed lines go like this: "And if Mr. Raddatz is a hatemonger [literally: Hassprediger=preacher of hate] and liar, then the almighty creator may punish him for his crimes…" [I add the German text for clarity: "Und wenn Herr Raddatz ein Hassprediger und Lügner ist, dann möge der allmächtige Schöpfer ihn für seine Verbrechen bestrafen ..."]

Raddatz understood the item, declared to be a prayer, as a call for murder and took Özoguz to court. The Regional Court Oldenburg refused to proceed with the trial against Özoguz. The "prayer" is, according to the court, no call for killing Hans-Peter Raddatz. Although punishment is mentioned, that implies, so the court, an appeal to God in the afterlife... The judges didn't recognise a call for other Internet surfers to commit a crime.

A Nation of Middle East Affairs Experts

Although I'm cut off the Internet for the time being, I am following in the traditional media what is turning the collective German knickers in a knot right now.

No it is not the high unemployment rate, the general, and generally poor, state of the economics, nor the question how we will be able to go on funding a deluxe (And any German who has NOT suffered first-hand experience of the British NHS please shut up here!) health system. Neither of this. It is the German distress about and responsibility for the Jews, their manners, performance and conduct and how embarrassed we are if they are leaving a bad impression. We call that: "Our special relationship with Israel".

Here is my biased summary of the general mood in Germany, that of the man in the street, the politicians, the lobbyists, and, of course, the media who provide us with all this. If you think I'm exaggerating, you're wrong.

The Child Molester as Kindergarden Teacher

"The Israelis did not start the war." "That does not matter."

Since last Monday, Germany is making noises that they might consider sending troops to Lebanon as part of a multinational U.N. force if certain conditions were met.

Several European Union countries are ready to contribute to a peace force but problems remain about ensuring it can fulfil its mission, according to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Monday.

German Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said if both sides in the conflict and the international community requested German participation, it would be difficult for Berlin to decline. "We could not refuse a peace mission of this nature if these conditions were met and if requests were directed to us," Jung told German television station N24.

Of course it would and of I bet my arse they couldn't. It's the convicted-child-molestor-craving-a-job-as-kindegarten-teacher-syndrome all over again.

Islamists are counting on converts

At the presentation of the project in Duisburg-Marxloh with the scale model of the mosque.

The Catholic news service kath.net reports that the number of German converts to Islam is ever growing and increased from a long-standing annual number of 300 to roughly 1,000 in 2004. Last year, at least 4,000 Germans newly embraced Islam, as the Zentralinstituts Islam-Archiv Deutschland in Soest determined.

A final assessment of a poll among the Islamic associations will be published at the end of July.

The traditional candidates for conversion had been women who marry a Muslim or female university graduates with a "love for the Oriental culture", but more recently, people from all walks of lifes are joining Islam.

Pavlovian Dogs

From IRIS. Israel is shown in blue. Mauritania, Sudan and Somalia are somewhat cut off at the edge of the map.

Germans are suffering from an acquired reflex: Each and every time the word "Israel" resounds, they start slobbering and salivating. The tiny little sliver of land more than 3000 km away is the focal point and catalyst for everything that is great and good in Germany. Never mind hundreds of thousands killed in Sudan, never mind the decade-long occupation of Tibet by China, never mind the security wall that India has put up to protect itself against Pakistan and the millons of people involved in all this. Who cares? It's Israel that makes the German glands work overtime.

How Muslim Women Are let Down by Us

USA Today has got interesting and disturbing news:
Young Muslim women in Europe go to extremes to be virgins — again

Photo: Michel Euler, AP
Dr. Emmanuelle Piet, who has been issuing five to six virginity certificates a year for three decades, poses at her home in Bondy, east of Paris.

SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — Chastity can exact a painful price from young Muslim women, forced into lies or surgery to go to the marriage bed as virgins.
Hymen repair, fake virginity certificates and other deceptions, said to be commonplace in some Muslim countries, are practiced in France and elsewhere in Europe, where Muslim girls are more emancipated but still live under rigid codes of family honor.

Such ploys have saved many a young woman from scorn and worse. But they also clash with the more liberal social mores of France and Europe, where some decry it as an attack on human rights.

The procedures are legal but shrouded in silence — "something that passes through non-official channels," via friends or the Internet, said Dr. Nathan Wrobel. "There are circuits that lead women to me."

Wrobel is one of an unknown number of gynecologists in France who are willing to repair hymens... He was one of the few doctors willing to talk about it.

Wrobel says women come to him having convinced themselves that the procedure will somehow reverse the irreversible. "They tell me, 'I'll be a virgin again. You will make me a virgin,' which in reality is totally false .... It's a secret we share."

Other doctors issue false virginity certificates or offer such tricks as spilling a vial of blood on the sheets to fool families into believing the bride has passed their purity bar.
[...]
In today's France, with an estimated 5 million Muslims — the largest such population in western Europe — it's part of the larger question of how to deal with cultural clashes ranging from head scarves in schools to sexual segregation in swimming pools.

A 2005 government report addressing culture clashes in hospitals, and issued a year after Muslim head scarves were banned from classrooms, briefly mentions the virginity issue, asking doctors to refuse to issue false certificates.

Isabelle Levy, author of Religion in the Hospital, decries both certificates and hymen repair, saying deception "increases the moral suffering."
[...]
It is not known how many doctors in France or elsewhere in Europe help Muslim women to fake virginity. But in Germany, Turkish Muslim immigrants are increasingly seeking virginity certificates, said Serap Cileli, who survived a forced marriage and now helps victims.

German doctors who do hymen repair are easy to find, according to Sibylle Schreiber, who works with a women's rights group in Tuebingen, but it's "a taboo topic really only discussed best friend to best friend."
[...]
The price, $500, is steep for a young woman in a poor family and possibly unemployed. A German doctor advertising on the Internet charges $1,250.

I am &#%$!§| ANGRY !!!

Even with all the more or less lighthearted World Cup brouhaha going on here, I would like to remind you that yesterday one week ago, John Pantsil committed the atrocity of waving an Israeli flag in public.

It was, so it appeared, the most shocking sight in a football stadium since the Taliban mass-executions or the concentration camp to which Uncle Augusto, long since forgotten, had turned his. Had Pantsil raped a child right on the kick-off mark, the reaction couldn't have been more strident.

Did, in the meantime, the German hosts of this great non-political event or the German media (or the international media, for that) do something to support Pantsil, even if it were only by sending out a little signal saying: "Leave the guy alone"?

Don't hold your breath while you're waiting for one!

Here, you have to threaten to wipe Israel off the map to get support. By waving an Israeli flag you don't.

No Christian Prayer in German Football Stadiums

The Catholic news service KATH.NET reports that the World Football association FIFA had the chapels of the Berlin Olympic Stadium and the Arena ''auf Schalke'' closed out of ''security considerations and respect for the followers of other religions''. The organisers are in possession of the right of undisturbed possession of the premises for the duration of the World Cup.

The Berlin chapel was supposed to cater for the practising Christians in several teams, among them the Brasilian and South Korean team.

We are Dar al-Islam already

Isn't it funny (peculiar, not ha ha) how quickly we forgot important matters as soon as, to quote a German saying, another pig is driven through the village? So what happened to the then world famous, now already almost forgotten cartoonists who draw the Mohammed cartoons, which have changed history?

The following information, I received by email. The comment of the authors is as informative as the attached article itself.
Dear colleague,

Attached please find our article entitled "The Muhammed Affair and the Denmark Pact", which has just been published by www.sappho.dk. On June 6 it appeared in French at www.proche-orient.info under the title "Le Danemark, après l'affaire des caricatures".

It is a report on recent developments in Denmark after the Muhammed Crisis has disappeared from the international headlines. As we have reported, the very islamists who set the affair in motion have reason to consider subsequent developments as an outstanding success, which has given them semiofficial recognition and increased their political and moral standing with the security police.

Only yesterday Minister for Church Affairs Bertel Haarder -- who found his name on an official enemies list issued with impunity by The Islamic Faith Community -- admitted that he no longer dares speak his mind for fear of having to live under police protection (Jyllands-Posten 11 June 2006).

Since the Muhammed Affair Denmark may fairly be described as a place where not even members of the government dare speek freely for fear of being killed -- and where those who openly threaten their critics are praised by the police and treated as victims by the academic, cultural and media elites.

Best wishes
Lars Hedegaard and Helle Merete Brix

At least we know now what they really think!

Yes, you are reading that right. The logo on the left is from the website of Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH), the organisation, which will be sponsered by the event the logo announces. More about it can be found at Tariq "The glamorous face of radical Islam" Ramadan's website.

The fundraising panel discussion with the title "The Future of Europe in Islam - Exclamation Mark" took place on Wednesday in London.
(It) aims to explore the future of Europe in Islam. Islam is frequently cited as Europe’s fastest growing religion, and its followers have increasingly been in the spotlight. The rise of the far right across Europe together with a growing confident Muslim identity raises interesting questions about the role that Europe is playing in shaping the future of Islam and Muslims living in the west.

Tariq Ramadan is one of the speakers at that event. Yes, that is the man who notably stated in a Moroccan newspaper "The big deception is to let Europe believe that it is based on Judaeo-Christian tradition", the man who in 2004, during a television debate (100 Minutes pour convaincre) with then French Minister of the Interior Nicolas Sarkozy refused to condemn the application of hudud laws, which include punishments such as amputations for theft, stoning for adulterery and the persecution of those with dissident views on Islam.

His goal is the Islamisation of the West, as described by the German scholar of Islamic studies of Lebanese descent, Ralph Ghadban, in his book "Tariq Ramadan und die Islamisierung Europas".

"Ramadan's goal is the Islamisation of the societies of the West. He approves of democracy because it gives him the freedom to act. He does, however, want to overcome the constitution, which is based on human rights."

In such a light, of course, we ought not to be amazed that integration is a non-issue at the above described panel discussion.

As an aside, Tariq Ramadan is introduced again as 'Professor'. Gudrun Eussner has collected a wealth of knowledge at her website (sadly in German only) about that specific sort of imposture: "Professor Tariq Ramadan?" and about Tariq Ramadan, maternal grandson of Hasan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, generally. Tariq is a Swiss citizen because his father, Sa‘id Ramadan, also a leading Islamist, fled from Egypt in 1954 following increasing pressure on the Brotherhood. Sa‘id went to Geneva in 1958, where Tariq was born in 1962.

The question is not just how a radical Islamist like Ramadan could become quite that influential among the Western intelligentsia, the question is even more how he managed to sell himself as the moderate face of Islam and a bridge-builder.
