NATO's Afghan Failure

We feel Stephen Harper's pique. Maybe France, Germany and other so-called NATO allies will as well and heed the Canadian Prime Minister's call to share the war-fighting burden in Afghanistan.

Miracles happen. For the time being, however, the Continentals are in no apparent hurry to break a five-decade habit of enjoying a free ride on security. None seriously answered NATO's call for up to 7,000 more troops for Afghanistan. So the U.S. last month announced a "temporary" deployment of another 3,200 Marines, the second large reinforcement in a year. That brings the U.S. deployment to nearly 30,000, with about half those troops as part of the NATO force of 42,000.

The plight of the Canadians ought to shame other allies. Mr. Harper warned that his country wouldn't extend its 2,500-strong mission in Afghanistan's unstable southern provinces unless Europe ponies up troops and equipment. His minority party will soon put the deployment to Parliament, where the opposition wants a withdrawal. "If NATO can't come through with that help, then I think, frankly, NATO's own reputation and future will be in jeopardy," he said this week. Canadians aren't known for hyperbole.

In the past year and a half, the alliance has successfully fought a resurgent Taliban. But the struggle isn't over, and the success of NATO's first ever deployment outside Europe is far from assured. The U.S., Britain, the Netherlands and Canada -- which alone has lost 78 soldiers -- are carrying a disproportionate load.

Though the mission flies a NATO flag, Germany, Italy and Spain put caveats on their troops, preventing them from leaving more peaceful areas to reinforce the Canadians and others in the south and east. With a limited presence on the ground, France would appear best placed of the big European countries to contribute 1,000 new troops or more.

The Continentals fill up lots of air space at policy conferences talking about Europe's readiness to play a prominent role in global affairs. The Canadians are now usefully calling their bluff.

It's clear that despite massive advantages of weapons, men, freedom, independent women, and millenia of development, when it comes to these murderers, they have the advantage.

The other resolution more directly criticizes the presence of the center in Berkeley. The city manager was directed to send a letter to the U.S. Marine Corps saying they are “uninvited and unwelcome intruders” in the city.

A little later, with ammunition critically low and the supply lines cut off, Sgt. Basilone, at great risk of his life and in the face of continued enemy attack, battled his way through hostile lines with urgently needed shells for his gunners, thereby contributing in large measure to the virtual annihilation of a Japanese regiment. His great personal valor and courageous initiative were in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

He told his brother after joining the Marines that, "Without his Corps, his life meant nothing."

I question the patriotism of the Berkeley City council and I question the patriotism, and belief system of Code Pink.

Maybe they are right, and men and women such as these just don't belong in a place like Berkeley any more

How Low Can They Go?

Baghdad’s fragile peace was shattered yesterday when explosives strapped to two women with Down’s syndrome were detonated by remote control in crowded pet markets, killing at least 91 people in the worst attacks that the capital had experienced for almost a year.

Iraqi and American officials blamed al-Qaeda, and accused the terrorist organisation of plumbing new depths of depravity. Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, said that al-Qaeda’s use of mentally-handicapped women as bombers showed that it had “no political programme here that is acceptable to a civilised society and that this is the most brutal and the most bankrupt of movements”.

And here's a very good reason, if we need one for banning the veil and "black pepperpot" (Pat Condell) burkha in our own countries.

Though the use of women in warfare violates religious taboos, they have obvious appeal for terrorists because they can conceal explosives beneath their black robes — abayas — and usually escape the rigorous body searches to which men are subjected.

They detonated the mentally challenged women by remote control. These people must surely be the lowest form of human life - if they can be human. It would have been better if instead of pressing the detonation button remotely the explosives were attached to them but perhaps the cowards have been using mentally challenged suicide bombers all along, who would know? Anyone that can do this sort of thing surely cannot have the brain and spirit of a human being.

Islam IS a Religion of Peace, Ha Ha!

The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, is under police protection after he and his family received death threats over his claim that parts of Britain had become “no-go areas” for non-Muslims.

The Bishop is also facing anger from the most senior members of the Church of England hierarchy for his comments on Islam.

What a bunch of useless dhimmies they all are!

Dr Nazir-Ali was in India when staff at his home in Rochester took a number of phone calls threatening his family and warning him that he would not “live long” if he continued to criticise Islam. He has been given an emergency number at Kent Police, along with other undisclosed protection measures, and said that the threats were being taken “seriously”.

That should have the rest of the dhimmies trembling in their boots, and effectively keep them in line. A well tested Muslim way of keeping "free speech" in the dark.

He said that Christian workers in some areas were unable to practise the full range of ministry “either because it is felt to be inadvisable or because of intimidation by extremist views and actions”. In addition, converts to the Christian faith found it “difficult or impossible” to live in certain areas. “This is too widespread a phenomenon to be ignored and deserves proper discussion and debate,” the Bishop said. In Case of a Barack Obama Presidency:

Europe and Canada have marshaled armies of scientists to prepare for the worst--in case US voters elect Barack Obama as US President next November. In Norway, a "doomsday vault" is being stocked with seeds, in case a President Obama brings about unprecedented global ecological devastation. British, Swedish, and Chinese scientists are studying the basic mechanisms of control of human ovulation, in what many observers see as an effort to develop something analogous to the plant seed "doomsday vault"--a vault for human embryos.

"We would not be so concerned", stated Blythe Manfredson, EU Disaster Planner, "if not for some disturbing revelations coming from the United States. We have learned that Senator Obama's campaign is using deep brain stimulation to influence voting preferences in non-African American voters.""That's patently absurd!" declared an Obama campaign aide heatedly. "We only use DBS on resistant voters--racists! Many Americans willingly--even enthusiastically--vote for Barack, so they don't need the DBS."

EU sources state that they are not reassured by the explanations coming from the Obama campaign. "I would feel much better if the Obama campaign would just stick to the traditional deceptions, false promises, and misleading attacks against opponents. Using DBS is getting too close to unfair manipulation," declared one source, who asked not to be named.

Manfredson denies that she and other government planners are over-reacting to the possibility of an Obama presidency. "Look, we are destroying the European economy on the basis of unproven and unfalsifiable climate models. How could we face the people of Europe if we failed to react to the Obama threat in turn?"

Other EU officials express concerns that Obama is seen by large segments of the US public as almost a "magic negro", possessing mythical powers to bring about a new millenium for everyone except bad people. "This type of expectation inevitably leads to catastrophe!" declared another anonymous EU source. "Unrealistic belief in a particular "change-bringer" too easily leads to suspension of critical thinking. The danger is particularly dire from charismatic but unproven politicians."

It is not likely that such cautions will be considered by the American public. In fact, most of the American news media itself appears to be in thrall to the first-term senator from Illinois.

"We have to be concerned," insisted Manfredson. "Obama has single-handedly destroyed an American political dynasty that was expected to last decades. He appears unstoppable. Clearly the American public's expectations of what an Obama presidency would mean, in terms of revolutionary justice and change, is completely unrealistic. When the reality sets in, we expect widespread social upheaval--perhaps even civil war in the US."

In addition, an unnamed Vatican source expressed concern about Obama's apparent intention to spend most of the first year of his presidency strengthening US ties with Islamic religious leaders. "That is all that Obama talks about--Islam this, Islam that! It's bad enough that there will soon be more mosques in Europe than churches and cathedrals, more boys named Muhammed than John."

"The US is the leader of the world, the guarantor of world markets and trade routes," explained Chen Xin, Chinese liason to the EU Disaster Planning Commission. "Although we Chinese wish to replace the US as most powerful nation, it is no one's best interest for the handover of world power to occur by way of calamitous violent change. Despite his powerful charisma, Obama has simply not displayed an ability to lead, so the danger of violent disillusionment and backlash is extreme. We do not expect civil war in America--unless Obama attempts to radically alter the American military."

Meanwhile, the stocking of the doomsday seed vault has been placed at highest priority, as have preparations for stocking a doomsday vault with frozen human embryos. Judging by the actions of international disaster planners, the future of mankind has never looked so bleak.

Storm Track Disinformation: Speaking of Muslim Tolerance

Syed Soharwardy is organizing Calgary's first ever Muslim women's convention. Here’s the 411 on the conference from Sun Media.

"Muslim women are equal participants in our affairs, are equally respected in the Muslim community," said Soharwardy.

For the past three years, a similar convention has been held in Mississauga, Ont., said Soharwardy.

He said another goal of the meet is to encourage women to bring their domestic problems to the fore, while encouraging participants to spread a message of enlightenment to their home countries.

"They'll go back to the countries of their birth and challenge those people who are still abusing women," said Soharwardy.

It's hoped the gathering will also help women overcome the cultural shock felt by some immigrants unaccustomed to playing an active role in the community, he said.

Wonderful words right? One problem. Syed Soharwardy is facing human rights complaints for discrimination against women.

An Al Qaida Internet site reported last week that terrorists are planning a major attack in the United States in the coming weeks.

The Jan. 12 posting titled “A Large Operation in America, God Willing,” stated that the upcoming attack was imminent. Other participants chastised the writer for tipping Al Qaida’s hand.

Counterterrorism analysts said the threat could be real or Al Qaida deception designed to test U.S. security by announcing an planned attack and observing the level of increased security.

For those seeking more information, the author of the posting said they should be patient but assured forum members that “the lions have taken off and you will see [the proof] in the coming weeks.”

“We ask God to guide the aim of the jihadists and to grant them success in the revenge campaign for Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi,” the message said.

Another discussant expressed doubts about the claim, noting that “to my knowledge, Al Qaida does not announce about any operation before it takes place. We are hopeful that the news from our brother (the poster) is true and that God will guide the aim of the mujahidin, grant them victory, and heal the (wounded) hearts of the believers."

One of the moderators of the forum cautioned other members about discussing the potentially sensitive information, noting “there is no gain in escalating this topic."

“It is not wise or deceitful to announce something before it takes place, because I fear that you will commit two dangerous mistakes: 1. Foiling the operation before it takes place as a result of the enemy's knowledge after your announcement. 2. I am concerned that you might be deceitful with this hasty announcement. God is all-wise and all-knowing. Please accept this advice from a brother who loves you for the sake of God."

In responding to doubts from forum members, the author stated that “the hint was given only to ensure that the matter does not get attributed to others when it occurs.”

“Should they succeed, you will hear news that will make your hearts jump with delight,” the message said, requesting that supporters publish “evidence” from Muslim scholars showing that “it is permissible to use weapons of mass destruction against the infidels, and to use human shields."

The posting included a religious edict from May 2003 written by Saudi cleric Nasir Hamad al-Fahd on the validity of using weapons of mass destruction against the infidels as well as human shields.

Israel is tiny refuge to a tiny and historically oppressed, and widely discriminated against, expelled and murdered people. That is a fact.

Has Fox run this story as a sop, or at the suggestion of a stockholder, whose impulses are a religiously inspired will ti see it destroyed, and return the Jewish people to that former status?

Jury in Miami Terror trial jury decides a blown up Sears Tower was the only way to convict

Yet Another Troubling Terror Trial

Given that hard evidence is often scarce in trials of unsuccessful terrorists, federal prosecutors in Miami no doubt felt fortunate to be trying defendants who participated in a ceremony pledging allegiance to al Qaeda—which was captured on video.

The defendants took surveillance photos of government buildings. The leader of the cell admitted requesting from an apparent terrorist financier boots, uniforms, vehicles, machine guns and $50,000. Just in case the reason for the request was unclear, Narseal Batiste stated—on tape—that it was for creating an “Islamic army” to wage a “full ground war” and commit an attack that would be “as good or greater than 9/11,” such as blowing up the Sears Tower.

It wasn’t enough. They weren’t convicted.

In a stunning defeat for common sense, a Miami jury last month couldn’t convict seven defendants on a single of the 28 total charges. One man, who had moved to Atlanta months before the arrests and had severed ties with the group, was acquitted entirely. The jury deadlocked on all charges brought against the other members of the “Liberty City Seven.”

Though prosecutors are re-trying the remaining defendants soon, odds of success the second time around seem dicey. Put simply, it appears that several jurors were determined to acquit, no matter the evidence.

That's a condemning idea.

A dismissed juror—who was shown the door near the midpoint for reading a police pamphlet outside the courthouse on terrorism during the trial—explained that he was favoring acquittal for that very reason. “They were playing ninja,” said Eldon Brown. “These guys were living in the movies. They were completely out of touch with reality.”

What does that have to do with the crime?

Then there’s the inherent problem of prosecuting unsuccessful terrorists: By definition, they never actually have succeeded.

Juror Michael Silva clearly didn’t feel threatened by the defendants, explaining after the trial, “It was not like [prosecutors] had evidence of somebody planting explosives.” Silva did not state that he pushed for a universal acquittal, but Agron said that a different juror kept insisting during deliberations that explosives being planted or something similar would have been necessary.

Never mind that one of the charges brought against each of the defendants—conspiracy to support al Qaeda—required no imminent attacks or anything beyond an agreement to support bin Laden’s network. Swearing an oath to al Qaeda clearly satisfies that requirement, but the defendants also took reconnaissance photos of government buildings—more than enough under the law to convict on the conspiracy charge.

What level of proof would thus be needed to break up a plot ahead of time, arrest the conspirators, and convict them? Is it necessary to wait until the plan is carried out? Does that mean the 19 mass murderers of 9/11 could have only been convicted by americans AFTER they took control of the aircraft?

How realistic would it have seemed if we HAD acted on intelligence then, and the 9/10 prosecution was making the case that america was going to be attacked by religious lunatics with boxcutters, and that it was terrorism?

How much more necessary does this make the slippery slope of taking terrorists outside the field of battle as enemy forces and just stick them away in some hole?

It appears some jurors thru their irresponsible behavior are in fact inspiring the kind of action we have seen in places like Chile in the past.

So, terrorists out there, make sure you include some really stupid people in your plots, that way you can just claim you were playing ninja, and other morons will set you loose.

Who on the prosecution vetted that jury?

Move the trial to lower Manhattan. Maybe those folks will be able to envision the results from the plans.

Britain : Private Muslim schools have been given the power to police themselves

Even I, who have written constantly about the British government’s lethally flawed strategy of appeasing Islamism, am left breathless by today’s story in the Telegraph:

Private Muslim schools have been given the power to police themselves, despite widespread fears over religious segregation, The Daily Telegraph can disclose. In a controversial move, they have won the right to appoint their own Ofsted-style inspectors. A new independent watchdog has been set up to be more ‘sensitive’ toward Islamic education. The decision comes despite concerns some private Muslim schools are already failing to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.

Barry Sheerman, the chairman of the Commons schools select committee, told MPs last month local councils were finding it ‘difficult to know what is going on in some faith schools - particularly Muslim schools’. But religious leaders defended the move, saying the curriculum and religious traditions in faith schools demand specialist knowledge. Under present legislation, most state and private schools are inspected by Ofsted, the Government's standards watchdog. The Association of Muslim Schools and the Christian Schools' Trust applied to the Government to set up a separate inspectorate for a small number of private faith schools. The Daily Telegraph has learned the Department for Children, Schools and Families [DCSF] approved plans for the Bridge Schools' Inspectorate last week, giving it the power to inspect about 60 private Muslim schools and 50 Christian schools.

It really is hard to believe this. There is a crying need for much more rigorous state inspection of Muslim schools. Ofsted, which is supposedly going to police this new Muslim/Christian inspectorate, is hopeless; having progressively emasculated its inspection processes generally, it has already failed to identify Islamic extremism in the Muslim schools it inspects (see the evidence revealed in the recent Policy Exchange report of the bigoted teaching materials used at the King Fahad academy in west London, to which Ofsted gave a clean bill of health). The only way to address Islamic extremism is to take the toughest line possible against the dissemination of hatred and incitement. That means that the state must make it its business to find out where children are being thus indoctrinated and stop it. And that means the state must inspect all Muslim teaching institutions and take action against them where it finds that this is happening. To withdraw instead, as the government is now doing, and allow these schools to police themselves is to give a green light to the extremist production line.

Furthermore, it also bows to the Islamist insistence that British Muslims must develop parallel institutions to the British state, a fundamental element of their strategy to Islamise this country. For although this is presented as a Muslim/Christian initiative, no-one can be in any doubt that the main thrust comes from British Muslims. The website of the Christian body involved, the Christian Schools’ Trust, is being rejigged so information on it is sparse; but it appears to be a marginal fundamentalist body. Certainly there is no indication that Christian schools in general, or Jewish schools for that matter, are pressing for their own inspectorate.

Many people still think that the idea that Britain could ever be ‘Islamised’ is just too preposterous and silly to be taken seriously. It is not. It is well advanced. What it relies upon is three things: the refusal of the British public to take it seriously; the Islamists' ability to manipulate moral and intellectual liberal confusion and the resulting paralysis over ‘Islamophobia’, ‘discrimination’ and ‘minority rights’; and the craven desire by the British government to buy off the implicit and explicit threats of Muslim social unrest and yet more terrorist attacks by giving in to the Islamists’ demands. Truly moderate British Muslims who want to live under the umbrella of British laws and institutions are thus grievously undermined, and the entire country is put at ever greater peril from the pincer movement of cultural and terrorist attack.

Members of Parliament with an elementary sense of national self-preservation simply must not let this pass.

Being Muslim Isn't Voluntary

Dr Nasar Meer, research associate in the Department of Sociology at Bristol, found that Muslims are let down by race legislation because being a Muslim is recognised as a lifestyle choice or a "voluntary identity".

Dr Meer says other religious identities - such as Sikh and Jew - have had race law applied in their favour in a way not extended to Muslim communities.

He said many Muslims view their faith as an "involuntary identity" as they are born into the religion.

Considering what happens to Muslims who decide they no longer want to be followers of Islam, I suppose that being Muslim could be viewed as involuntary. You can get your head lopped off for becoming an apostate. So, if you're a Muslim and you want to stay alive, you'd better hold onto that Muslim identity.

[Dr. Meer said] said: "We explored what legislation exists to help protect people with what we call an involuntary identity. People with an involuntary identity shouldn't be disadvantaged by others' views.

"The legislation should offer them support and make sure they're not discriminated against."

And here's the kicker:

"Muslims have been totally missed out of the protection offered by race-relations legislation because it treats Islam as a religion and not a race."

Dr Meer said he has come across various examples of when hatred towards Muslims was dismissed but hatred towards other religions had not been tolerated.

Get ready for it: "involuntary identity" will refer to both ethnic origin and adherence to Islam. At least, so appears a trend in the UK, a trend endorsed by a university study.

Is that position official under the rule of law? Not quite, but it may well become the reality in time--unless the West quits allowing Muslims to determine certain definitions.

Before this decade ends, Islam may well be defined as a race, at least in the UK. If that happens, criticizing Islam will become designated as racism. Then what?
