During the 1990s, several factors conspired to create a radical pan-Islamist identity among British Muslims, notably the entrenchment of Jamaat-e-Islami and Muslim Brotherhood activists in mosques and Islamic organizations and the arrival of radical preachers from the Arab world. Conflicts in Kashmir, Bosnia and elsewhere were widely interpreted by many Muslims as a conflict between Islam and Christianity, furthering the process of radicalization. However, the enthusiasm that this factor aroused for jihad was tempered by the idea of a "covenant of security" that radical Islamist preachers said existed between them and the British government and which initially prevented attacks against the UK. Inevitably, this restriction compelled British jihadis to export their violence abroad--often in the direction of Pakistan. In the mid-1990s, Mohammed Sohail, a Pakistani professional, created the Global Jihad Fund to channel donations from British Muslims to jihadis in South Asia.

In the late 1990s, Babar Ahmad, presently fighting deportation to the United States, allegedly used the Azzam.com website to spread pro-jihadist propaganda and to channel money, equipment and volunteers to the Taliban through Pakistan [1]. Separately, Dhiren Barot--also known as Isa al-Hindi--a Hindu brought up in the UK, converted to Islam and fought in Kashmir in 1995, writing of his experiences in The Army of Medinah in Kashmir, an influential book for would-be jihadis (BBC, November 7, 2006). In 1994, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, born to a middle-class Pakistani family living in the UK, travelled to Pakistan where he attended a training camp run by Harkat ul-Mujaheddin (BBC, July 26, 2005). In 1999, he attended an al-Qaeda training camp at Khalden in Afghanistan. In 2002, he kidnapped and killed Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Richard Reid, "the shoe bomber," a London-born convert to Islam, and his co-conspirator, Sajid Badat, are also said to have travelled to Pakistan or Afghanistan to collect detonators prior to Reid's attempt to down a trans-Atlantic airliner in 2001 (Telegraph, December 27, 2001). In some cases, Islamist groups had well-developed networks. During the late 1990s, al-Muhajiroun, a British radical Islamist group whose members were predominantly South Asian, sent several hundred British citizens to train in Pakistan. Following 9/11, the group openly arranged for several dozen British Muslims to travel via Pakistan to fight U.S. forces in Afghanistan. In many cases, these individuals did not work directly with al-Qaeda but with a range of other local groups; it is likely that this remains the case with present-day jihadis making the same journey.

Israel's government has approved a plan for an invasion of the Gaza Strip and the destruction of the Hamas

GERTZ - "They [Hamas] are forcefully pushing us into Gaza," National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said.

The sources said Olmert has presented the plan to the Bush administration. They said Olmert has urged Western leaders to support the establishment of a non-Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip, which would be monitored and assisted by the international community.

BIG BIG MISTAKE. Unless, responsibility for the welfare of the people (food, electricity, water, economy) is given over completely to non Israeli sources. Now that would be a great thing, but who is that crazy?

The sources said the military has not clamored for an immediate invasion of the Gaza Strip. Instead, the General Staff has sought to adopt the model of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, in which a military assault would be preceded by the destruction of Hamas command and control and other military facilities.

"The idea is to diminish their defenses and eliminate their commanders to the point where we can quickly enter Gaza, control most or all of the strip and destroy the regime," a government source said. "This will minimize international reaction and our own casualties."

An Iraq invasion which would have ended in May 2003?

The sources said Olmert has approved the military effort, in principle, but was not ready to order the launch of the military operation. They said Olmert has been lobbying U.S. President George Bush, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel for support.

"There will be a heavy economic and political cost to this operation," [Res.] Maj. Gen. Doron Almog, former chief of the military's Southern Command, said.

The Israeli military plan envisioned the use of between 10,000 and 20,000 soldiers, backed by helicopters, warships and main battle tanks, to invade the Gaza Strip from at least four direction, including the Mediterranean Sea. Unlike previous short-lived operations, the sources said, the Israeli force would capture and destroy the Hamas government, military bases, arsenals and divide the strip into three regions.

I'm envisioning the protests around the world against the 'new nazis'.

At that point, the Israeli force would destroy the infrastructure of all Palestinian insurgency groups as well as those of crime families. Israeli troops would also target weapons tunnels that connect the divided city of Rafah and secure the Sinai-Gaza border. The entire operation was expected to take about two weeks.

"The plan is ready, but it requires [Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert's approval," a government source said. "Nobody believes he will approve it unless he gets explicit permission from the United States."

Israel's military would also remain on high alert along the Lebanese border for the prospect of rocket attacks by the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah. Hamas and Hizbullah have been regarded as strategic partners, and the sources said Iran and Syria could order retaliatory strikes from Lebanon.

Under the plan, Israel would eventually withdraw from the Gaza Strip but remain along the border area with Egypt. One scenario envisioned an early Israeli withdrawal should NATO or another Western force assume security.

As long as there is a HAMAS, there can never be peace. As long as their positions on the existence of Israel represent s the majority of palestinians there will always be a HAMAS. As long at the muslim brotherhood's influence is felt among the imams in Islam, there will always be wide support for a HAMAS.

Mullahs decide to spend more money on HAMAS, and Islamic Jihad

JERUSALEM -- GERTZ - Israel has reported a funding increase in late 2007 by Iran for Hamas and Islamic Jihad as leading elements in Teheran's campaign against Israel.

Officials said the funding was relayed through a network of money-changers to Iranian proxies in the West Bank. On Feb. 12, Israel's military and domestic intelligence service confiscated three million shekels, or $843,000, from money-changers in the West Bank and meant for Hamas and Jihad.

If they seized almost a million in cash, how much is out there?

"In recent years, terror organizations have raised millions of dollars and distributed the funds in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip," the statement said. "The money is transferred in various ways, mainly via money changers."

The money-changers were located in the West Bank cities of Hebron, Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah and Tulkarm. Israeli troops arrested five money-changers with weapons as well as Israeli shekels, U.S. dollars and Jordanian dinars.

Officials said a major Hamas financing cell has been operating around Jerusalem. They said the cell relayed 12 million shekels, or $4.3 million, to Hamas in the West Bank in 2007.

The insurgency financing came from Iran through money-changers in Lebanon, Jordan the Palestinian Authority and Saudi Arabia, officials said. They said the money was meant expand the insurgency infrastructure, finance and train recruits and purchase and manufacture weapons.

In the first step, money-changers outside of Israel and the PA deliver funds to money changers in West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The money-changers then deliver the funds to insurgency operatives.

"It is important to emphasize that there is no supervision of money changers by the Palestinians Authority, which means that the money changers can take part in terrorist activity without restrictions or fear of sanctions," the statement said.

An international group of Muslim leaders have sent a letter to the world's Jewish community appealing for better relationships between the faiths.

The unprecedented letter, which is being seen as a significant gesture of reconciliation, said: "Many Jews and Muslims today stand apart from each other due to feelings of anger, which in some parts of the world, translate into violence.

"It is our contention that we are faced today not with 'a clash of civilizations' but with 'a clash of ill-informed misunderstandings'."

Taqqiya at it's best. "Clash of civilizations" is spot on. There's little to misunderstand about the Quran and it's exortations to "kill the Jew, wherever he is".

Signatories of the letter include Professor Akbar Ahmed, a former High Commissioner of Pakistan to Great Britain, who also signed a similar statement earlier this year from Muslim scholars to Christian leaders around the world.

The new letter said: "Deep-seated stereotypes and prejudices have resulted in a distancing of the communities and even a dehumanizing of the 'Other'. We urgently need to address this situation. We must strive towards turning ignorance into knowledge, intolerance into understanding, and pain into courage and sensitivity for the 'Other'."

There's nothing like cutting a persons head off in the same way they would slaughter an animal as a method of dehumanizing

It added: "There is more in common between our religions and peoples than is known to each of us. It is precisely due to the urgent need to address such political problems as well as acknowledge our shared values that the establishment of an inter-religious dialogue between Jews and Muslims in our time is extremely important.

Shared values? Give me a break. Kill the apostate; Islam is superior; no tolerance for the beliefs of others; free speech banned, it goes on. What shared values?

"Failure to do so will be a missed opportunity. Memories of positive historical encounters will dim and the current problems will lead to an increasing rift and more common misunderstandings between us."

That's because immigrant Muslims in the West are deliberately provoking us with ever more ludicrous demands in order to provoke a violent backlash.

One signatory, Sheikh Michael Mumisa, a Cambridge University lecturer, said the letter was the first in modern times sent to the Jewish community with the backing of scholars and Muslim leaders.

"The message in this letter conveys to the Jewish community a genuine desire for mutual respect, for dialogue and deeper understanding," he said.

Why don't they try putting that into practice. As for us respecting them first they should give us a reason to respect them since everything they do only deserves contempt, ridicule, loathing.

JERUSALEM – The board of a nonprofit organization on which Sen. Barack Obama served as a paid director alongside a confessed domestic
terrorist granted funding to a controversial Arab group that mourns the
establishment of Israel as a "catastrophe" and supports intense immigration reform, including providing drivers licenses and
education to illegal aliens.

The co-founder of the Arab group in question, Columbia University professor
Rashid Khalidi, also has held a fundraiser for Obama. Khalidi is a harsh critic
of Israel, has made statements supportive of Palestinian terror and reportedly
has worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization while it was
involved in anti-Western terrorism and was labeled by the State Department as a
terror group.

In 2001, the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit that describes itself as
a group helping the disadvantaged, provided a $40,000 grant to the Arab American
Action Network, or AAAN, for which Khalidi's wife, Mona, serves as president.
The Fund provided a second grant to the AAAN for $35,000 in 2002.

Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec.
11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. According to tax filings, Obama
received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2001.

Obama served on the Wood's Fund board alongside William C. Ayers, a
member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to overthrow of the U.S.
government and took responsibility for bombing the U.S. Capitol in
1971.

Ayers, who still serves on the Woods Fund board, contributed $200 to
Obama's senatorial campaign fund and has served on panels with Obama at numerous
public speaking engagements. Ayers admitted to involvement in the bombings of
U.S. governmental buildings in the 1970s. He is a professor at the
University of Illinois at Chicago.

The $40,000 grant from Obama's Woods Fund to the AAAN constituted about a
fifth of the Arab group's reported grants for 2001, according to tax filings
obtained by WND. The $35,000 Woods Fund grant in 2002 also constituted
about one-fifth of AAAN's reported grants for that year.

The AAAN, headquartered in the heart of Chicago's Palestinian immigrant community, describes itself as working to "empower
Chicago-area Arab immigrants and Arab Americans through the combined strategies
of community organizing, advocacy, education and social services, leadership
development, and forging productive relationships with other communities."

It reportedly has worked on projects with the Illinois Coalition for
Immigrant and Refugee Rights, which supports open boarders and education for
illegal aliens. The AAAN in 2005 sent a letter to New Mexico Gov. Bill
Richardson in which it called a billboard opposing a North Carolina-New Mexico
joint initiative to deny driver's licenses to illegal aliens a "bigoted attack
on Arabs and Muslims." Speakers at AAAN dinners and events routinely have taken
an anti-Israel line.

The group co-sponsored a Palestinian art exhibit, titled, "The Subject of
Palestine," that featured works related to what some Palestinians call the
"Nakba" or "catastrophe" of Israel's founding in 1948.

According to the widely discredited Nakba narrative, Jews in 1948 forcibly
expelled hundreds of thousands - some Palestinians claim over one million -
Arabs from their homes and then took over the territory.

So, Obama works with terrorists and associates with people who think Israel is a catastrophe.

I find it really hard to like Obama. I'm trying, but I find that I am simply not succeeding.

Iran Introduces Law that Imposes Death Penalty on Converts

RELIGIOUS INTELLIGENCE: LEGISLATION has been brought by the government of President Mahmoud Amadinejad before the Iranian Majlis that would mandate the death penalty for apostates from Islam. The law’s reach would be worldwide, the legislation says.

The Washington think tank, the Institute on Religion and Public Policy reported on Feb 5 the proposed “Bill for Islamic Penal” law will be the first time that Iran has by statute mandated the death penalty for conversion from Islam.


The legislation used the word “Hadd -- meaning that it explicitly sets death as a fixed punishment that cannot be changed, reduced or annulled. In the past, the death penalty has been handed down, and also carried out, in apostasy cases, but it has never before been set down in law,” the Institute’s president, Joseph Grieboski said. It's nice to see Hollywood standing up for Israel for once:


Los Angeles to hold benefits for Qassam-battered city featuring host of Hollywood stars including Sylvester Stallone, Paula Abdul, and Jon Voight

Los Angeles is proving to indeed be a "city of angels'". A host of Hollywood stars, including Paula Abdul, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight, will be participating Tuesday in a charity and solidarity concert for the rocket-battered town of Sderot in Beverly Hills.

The concert, entitled "Live for Sderot", which will include a performance by Israeli singer Ninet Tayeb and will be attended by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, will also launch the celebrations of the State of Israel's 60th anniversary in the city.

Guests of honor at this special concert will be a delegation of 10 teenagers from Sderot which were flown to visit Los Angeles and share their experiences of life in Sderot with local American youths.

The 15-year-old teens arrived in LA this weekend and have already managed to paint the town red.

Israeli Leadership Club (ILC) Chairman, Eli Tene, surprised each of the teens with $100 in spending money and a new iPod. The teens were also treated to a tour of the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as to dinner with Ninet Tayeb and Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles Jacob Dayan.

The Sderot delegation also attended a hockey game during the weekend, and will also be treated to an NBA basketball game and a tour of Universal Studios during thier week-long stay. The teens will also visit Beverly Hills High School, the inspiration for the "Beverly Hills 90210" TV show, and meet with its sudent body.

The Highlight of the teens' visit, however, will be the benefit concert for Sderot to be held Tuesday night. Paula Abdul has volunterred to host the concert, during which a videoclip entitled "Color red", which tells the tale of the Qassam-weary town, will be screeened.

Attneding the concert will be the Los Angleles mayor, a wealth of dignitaries from the city's Jewish leadership, the heads of the prominent movie studios in the city, and well as a whole host of celebrities and movie stars.

Neverless, the fictional content does not blur the historical facts. the Ottoman Empire has its englightened and radical representatives.

The Christian world, torn by the egoism of its leaders, listens intently to the voice of the church. Pope Innocent XI and his envoy father Marco d'Aviano not only successfully counter physical and political threat to Europe but also prevent the loss of the achievements of European civilization.

The style in which the events are described, resembling that of Sienkiewicz, which does not shun the fast pace of action, themes and characters attractive to a wide audience, serious elements but also pleasant entertainment, all make "Victoria" a potential box-office film in Europe and maybe in the world as well.


Believe it or not, there will also be a theme park with an educational angle.

US Navy changes tactics after the Iranian "swarm" in the gulf

U.S. Navy upgrading Gulf capabilty after incident in Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON -- GERTZ -The U.S. Navy seeks to bolster its fleet with new vessels that could easily maneuver in the shallow waters of the Gulf. Officials said the platforms were deemed vital in wake of a series of Iranian confrontations with the U.S. Navy in the Strait of Hormuz.

Xlation? 10,000 ton cruisers will have a problem trying to outmaneuver cigarette boats which can hit 60 knots.

"The fact that we are operating in concert with our friends in the region and other nations who contribute to the coalition speaks to the essence of our maritime strategy, which is one of cooperation and collaboration," Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations, said.

Xlation? If you think we have a problem, wait till you see the Dutch and Italian navies deal with this in confined seas.

Roughead has supported the procurement of the Littoral Combat Ship for Gulf operations. Two designs were scheduled to be presented for testing in 2008 before the navy selects one of them for development. Israel and Saudi Arabia have also expressed interest in LCS.

"We have to inject in our process the discipline to control the requirements that we've placed into the ships," Roughead said. "We have to put in there what we need, not what we want. We also have to make sure that we're doing everything to control costs."

In a Feb. 12 briefing, Roughead said the U.S. Navy has contained any threat from Iran. He cited three naval encounters with speedboats of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in December 2007 and January 2008.

The Littoral Combat Ship is designed to defeat these kinds of attacks, and is equipped with a raft of helicopters, it's own deployable speedboats, and muiltiple machine guns and other fun toys specifically with Iranian tactical type attacks in mind.

"The events in the Strait of Hormuz -- I thought they were rather irresponsible," Roughead said. "But again, I fall back onto the professionalism and the performance of our COs and sailors, again, taking in a lot of different bits of information and making the appropriate decisions that kept an event like that from getting out of control."

Officials said the U.S. Navy regards the Gulf as a strategic waterway and would maintain operations regardless of any reconciliation between Teheran and Washington. They said the navy's main task was to ensure the flow of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz, which contains 30 percent of global oil shipments.

"It's that naval force that is guaranteeing that free flow and the safety and security of those very precious commodities," Roughead said. "That's what navies do."

Farrakhan Praises Obama - Hails Him As Savior

Louis Farrakhan is not fit to tie the sandals on Obama's feet, but that didn't stop him from hailing Obama as a savior, and comparing him to the founder of Nation of Islam. From Reliapundit, the Astute Blogger:

In his first major public address since a cancer crisis, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that presidential candidate Barack Obama is the "hope of the entire world" that the U.S. will change for the better.

The 74-year-old Farrakhan, addressing an estimated crowd of 20,000 people at the annual Saviours' Day celebration, never outrightly endorsed Obama but spent most of the nearly two-hour speech praising the Illinois senator.

"This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," he said.

"This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."

Pastorius note: Farrkhan said black, brown, red, and yellow people are being transformed. This even though the bulk of Obama's audiences are made up of white people. It wouldn't be surprising if Farrakhan thought white people to be incapable of transformation, considering the Nation of Islam believes white people are the devil. Of course, the media doesn't tell you that, do they?

Farrakhan compared Obama to the religion's founder, Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father."A black man with a white mother became a savior to us," he told the crowd of mostly followers. "A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."

America has been up so long, it looks like down to Louis.

I like what Charles has to say about this:

There’s really no doubt that Louis Farrakhan is a preacher of hatred; his antisemitic statements are legendary, he’s a notorious supporter of Saddam Hussein and Robert Mugabe and countless other thuggish dictators, and he toured the Middle East in 2002 giving vicious speeches against Israel and the United States in the capitals of the Arab world.

Now, Barack Obama can’t control who endorses or praises his campaign, of course, but if he cares at all about doing the right thing he’ll renounce this support from one of the most hateful, divisive figures in US politics.

Don’t worry, I’m not holding my breath.

UPDATE: Well, what do you know? Obama does renounce Farrakhan.

I have been a consistent, before I go any further, a consistent denunciator of Louis Farrakhan, nobody challenges that. And what is true is that, recently this is probably, I guess last year. An award was given to Farrakhan for his work on behave of ex-offenders completely unrelated to his controversial statements. And I believe that was a mistake and showed a lack of sensitivity to Jewish community and I said so.
