HYDE PARK — The last time they saw him, business owners who knew Abbas Lodhi say he seemed content.“He was happy,” Shirley Lansing, co-owner of L&L Assembly on Violet Avenue here, said of the Hyde Park pharmacist police say shot his wife and two sons before killing himself.Lodhi, 49, and his younger son, Zain Lodhi, 9, were found dead of gunshot wounds in a car in front of a Pleasant Valley supermarket Thursday, state police said. His elder son, Mujtabah Lodhi, 13, was found dead at the family residence in Pleasant Valley later that day.And on Friday, his wife, Sarwat Lodhi, 43, was found dead of a gunshot wound on Route 376 in Wappinger.Police described the incident as a murder-suicide.There were few signs of family strife, say the business owners who operated next to Hyde Park Pharmacy, a small, unassuming storefront in Haviland Shopping Center.State records show the business was established Jan. 26, 2010, and that Abbas Lodhi was licensed as a pharmacist in 1993. His license was current through March 31, 2014.“Great neighbor,” said Mark DeLucca, co-owner of Haviland Auto Repair. “Good customer. Very friendly.”Not as much is known about the victims, Sarwat, Mujtabah and Zain Lodhi.Sarwat Lodhi was a homemaker and was not employed, state police said.Abbas Lodhi enrolled his two sons in the Sunday Islamic School at the Al-Noor Mosque on All Angels Hill Road in the Town of Wappinger about two months ago, said Nasir Mahmood, who attends the mosque regularly.His two sons attended school in the Arlington Central School District. Mujtabah Lodhi was an eighth-grader at LaGrange Middle School. Zain Lodhi was in fourth grade at Joseph D’Aquanni West Road Intermediate School.Counseling was available Friday for all Arlington students, Superintendent Brendan Lyons said. Lyons said Arlington staff and students described Zain as a personable, hardworking student who was always smiling. Mujtabah Lodhi was described as kind, funny and athletic and was planning to try out for the basketball team, Lyons saidMahmood, who owns Pine Plains Pharmacy in Pine Plains, said he met Abbas Lodhi when he came to the area to open the pharmacy in Hyde Park.“He asked for advice and guidance,” Mahmood said.He said Abbas Lodhi seemed happy when he sold his pharmacy a few weeks ago and was thinking about opening another pharmacy.Jean McArthur, owner of Pay-less Oil and McArthur’s Wine and Liquors a few doors down from the pharmacy, said she knew the boys’ father as an “average guy trying to make a living.”“I am really in shock,” she said. “That’s not the same person that I knew from working with him in the business community. We just don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in their home life.”The business owners said Abbas Lodhi appeared committed to his family’s well-being. They said the family relocated from Goshen, Orange County, to Pleasant Valley because the long hours and commute were keeping him from his sons. Sometimes he slept at the pharmacy before the move, they said.“He was always complaining that he was not spending enough time with his kids,” Shirley Lansing said.They said he expanded into a vacant, neighboring store and did well selling prescriptions. But the retail business did not keep pace, they said. About three weeks ago he sold his business, they said. Inside the locked storefront, the shelves were bare.“He said he was in good shape financially,” said Melvin Lansing, Shirley’s husband and co-owner of L&L Assembly, next door to the pharmacy. “He made a profit on his house. He made money selling his business. He seemed happy.”Melvin Lansing said there was one possible sign of problems. He said Abbas Lodhi confided in him that his wife was suffering from “mental issues.”“He did tell me a few months ago that his wife had some type of mental issues. He was having concerns about that,” Melvin Lansing said.The Lansings said Abbas Lodhi had entertained the thought of moving back to Pakistan to be closer to family. They said he also was deeply saddened by the death of his father from cancer earlier this year.However, McArthur and the Lansings said Abbas Lodhi also was considering working as a pharmacist again, this time in LaGrangeville.“What could be so wrong in somebody’s life?” McArthur said. “I don’t understand it.”

"FLEXIBILITY" - Obama orders ICBM squadron disbanded, silos filled.(INV).

Defense: Breaking yet another promise, this one to Congress, the administration jeopardizes our national security with plans to eliminate an entire squadron of intercontinental ballistic missiles and destroy its silos.

Yet another example of what President Obama meant in 2012 when he promised Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea, that after his re-election he would have more "flexibility" on defense issues, comes on the news that an ICBM squadron would be scrapped to comply with the New START Treaty — even as both the Russians and Chinese deploy new ballistic missiles.

A document prepared by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon maps out a strategy to eliminate an ICBM squadron — and destroy its missile silos — by Dec. 5, 2017.

The military would begin removing ICBMs next October, after an environmental assessment is complete, and the silo elimination would begin in May 2016.

The fact is, as the Heritage Foundation notes, the U.S. does not need to eliminate an ICBM squadron to meet New START's limits. The State Department's Oct. 1 fact sheet says the U.S. must dismantle 109 of its deployed ICBMs, deployed submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) and deployed heavy bombers, and remove another 138 warheads.

Heritage notes the U.S. has already reduced its deployed warheads by 112 and that destroying an ICBM squadron to comply with New START is unnecessary.

Further cuts, if needed, could be made by removing the missiles and placing the silos in reserve status.

The document says the reductions are necessary to "meet the New START Treaty compliance date by closing an ICBM squadron and eliminating the associated Launch Facilities." But that's not true. New START does not require destruction of the silos.

So why the unnecessary move to cut our offensive missile deterrent force after the administration has scrapped Phase IV of our European-based missile defense, which was the proposed replacement for the ground-based interceptors and missile radars that were scuttled in a betrayal of our Polish and Czech allies?

The president has said he dreams of a world without nuclear weapons, which critics point out seems to mean only a world without U.S. nukes.

He sees U.S. military supremacy as an anachronistic example of the American exceptionalism for which he has apologized so many times.

To that end, in his June 2013 Berlin speech, President Obama spoke of his desire to unilaterally reduce deployed U.S. nuclear forces by up to one-third.

Never mind his promises to U.S. lawmakers that he would maintain a strong land-based ICBM force, a promise he made to garner votes for ratification of the New START Treaty.

Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester, both Democrats from Montana, home of many ICBMs, issued a press release in 2010 backing New START and saying the missiles would "continue to play a key role in U.S. national security for decades to come."

CULTURIST HISTORY LESSON: MATTHEW ARNOLD AND ISLAM

Britain's Matthew Arnold (1822 – 1888) was the first person to be called a 'culturist.'  As codified in his masterpiece, Culture and Anarchy, the label referred to his wanting to avoid anarchy – and cultivate Britain and its morals – via honoring western culture.

In Arnold's time the word 'culturism' had not yet been invented. Culturism is the opposite of multiculturalism: it defies multiculturalism by affirming that the West has a core culture to guide, protect, and promote; this would have been a truism in Arnold's time; he was a culturist with no need to fight multiculturalists.

Arnold was a Christian atheist of sorts. He noted that science was making literal belief in miracles difficult, but recognized that Christianity was western civilization's bedrock. So he taught the Bible as literature; he fought to unify Christians under the Church of England and to have the Bible taught in public schools.

Even though Arnold's mission concerned the domestic perfection of Britain, he discussed Islam once: in the piece, "A Persian Passion Play." For us modern culturists, who must fight multiculturalists – and thus consider Islam – this historical document has relevance.

Arnold's 1871 essay reviews the play that tells the story of Hussein, the grandson of Muhammad, who helped found the Shia sect with his martyrdom. This play is performed during the holiday Ashura, wherein Muslims beat themselves.

As you would expect from the premier literary critic of his age, Arnold reviews the casting, sets, acting and versions of the play. After the dazzlingly crafted review, Arnold moves on to comparing Islam and Christianity.

The Iran Deal ? A is A

There are 2 possible reasons to TRY to reach a deal with Iran

I assume the first is to avoid the outbreak of a regional war of incalculable results brought on by an Israeli attack (over CERTAIN American opposition, as we can now see).

The second is that American interests are served by a deal, without regard to American allies of any stripe.

I have read appropriately 12 articles in places such  The American Interest, Foreign Policy, the Naval Institute and other places as well as links from ReaClearDefense, RealClearPolitics, and RealClearWorld. There has been an avalanche of articles in the last 7-10 days all trying to explain why this deal is a good thing and is realistic.

They all ignore 1 thing.

They ignore the will of the Israeli people as expressed in their REPEATED elections.
If their representative govt does not feel the result of any deal leaves the people SECURE in their daily lives, the Israelis will fight.
Nothing else matters. Any deal we make for our own purposes will be gone.

As we all have coffee this morning I am SURE the Iranians will not make any deal which will decrease their sovereignty regarding inspections or their right to refine U-235. That alone makes an agreement difficult if not impossible if it is to be REAL. But when the object of our action is a deal, NOT THE SECURITY of the result, one can easily end up with the opposite of one's desire.

Sudetenland. Oslo. Wye.

In this case, though, no matter what we identify as OUR interest as defined by OUR elected govt, we cannot achieve that objective if Israel looks at this deal (where they are NOT represented, btw) and says NO. That is because they are the ACTOR.

We can jam it down their throats, or try via warnings about military supply and deals, but their safety and existence trump such warnings. And they are not without final recourse, especially as we look astonished at the sight of Likud and the Wahabbis in agreement and some kind of cooperation if not alliance, or as we think about their drones, their technology, their AEW systems, all of which are desired by nations inimical to the USA and its people.

But most worrisome is the arrogant way this president conducts himself in all things. The most blatant example is, of course, Obamacare. No cooperation from the loyal opposition because no realistic compromise was acceptable.

We thus find ourselves with a president and an administration who can reach out to the most racist, dictatorial, and repressive regimes on the planet with real and dangerous compromises, but who cannot reach any with Americans, and their allies.

WHY NOT?

The Israelis WILL ATTACK, if the deal is not sufficient, and do so in some rather unexpected manner, and in doing so place the USA forever away from them and thus upset in every way all that has been built since 1948.

And I am talking about NATO and it's worldwide bridgework of cooperation, NOT Israel.

Why is this not clear?

Report: U.N. Body Bars Jews From Entering Palestinian Meeting

A prominent Jewish human rights institute has accused the United Nations of intentionally barring pro-Israel Jewish groups from attending a major meeting on the pursuit of Palestinian statehood.

The Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust (IHRH), a U.N.-approved NGO group, claims the U.N. Division for Palestinian Rights (UNDPR) has unjustly barred 18 pro-Israel Jews from attending a Monday event marking the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.”

U.N. security officials initially had granted the Touro Institute credentials permitting 18 Birthright Israel alumni to attend the daylong series of meetings, which will be attended by the U.N.’s most high-level officials.

However, those credentials were quickly revoked at the behest of the UNDPR, according to IHRH officials and e-mails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Georgetown University Hosted 9/11 Truther At Event Which Also Featured Democrat Representative Keith Ellison

Just days after it came under fire for engaging with a member of Egypt’s Nazi Party, Georgetown University hosted an event with a 9/11 Truther who has claimed that Osama bin Laden was not involved in the 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers. 

A Thursday afternoon panel sponsored by Georgetown was chaired by Boston College Professor Natana DeLong-Bas, who has defended Islamic fundamentalism and maintained that bin Laden played no role in the most deadly terror attack on American soil. 

DeLong-Bas was joined on the panel by Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.) and former White House advisor Dalia Mogahed. 

The event, which focused on the future of Muslim-Christian relations, was organized by Georgetown’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. 

The controversial panel took place just days after the Washington Free Beaconreported that Georgetown was slated to host a December 5 event with Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer Ramy Jan, who also is a key member of the country’s Nazi Party.

Vanessa Willock is the case in which an Albuquerque, NM woman has (thus far successfully) sued husband-and-wife photographers under New Mexico’s “public accommodations” discrimination law for their reluctance to shoot photos of her commitment ceremony to a female partner. One of the most dismaying elements of the case is that the American Civil Liberties Union has taken the anti-liberty side. Adam Liptak in the NYT:

I asked Louise Melling, a lawyer at the American Civil Liberties Union, which has a distinguished history of championing free speech, how the group had evaluated the case.

Ms. Melling said the evaluation had required difficult choices. Photography is expression protected by the Constitution, she said, and Ms. [Elane] Huguenin acted from “heartfelt convictions.”

But the equal treatment of gay couples is more important than the free speech rights of commercial photographers, she said, explaining why the A.C.L.U. filed a brief in the New Mexico Supreme Court supporting the couple.

If this was so tough, then they should have stayed OUT OF IT. It is unimaginable that the ACLU would choose ANYTHING other than freedom of speech, just as they did in SKOKIE in 1968.

Or is the right of a gay couple to equal treatment more a right than that of holocaust survivors to freedom from intimidation?

When State Department officials designated a Nigerian Islamist militant group as a foreign terrorist organization, they did so without mentioning that the people being terrorized are Christians targeted for their beliefs. In fact, they acted as if the group has other motivations.   

“These designations are an important and appropriate step, but only one tool in what must be a comprehensive approach by the Nigerian government to counter these groups through a combination of law enforcement, political, and development efforts, as well as military engagement, to help root out violent extremism while also addressing the legitimate concerns of the people of northern Nigeria,” the State Department said in the press release last week. 

“All of our assistance to Nigeria stresses the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring that human rights are respected. That assistance and these designations demonstrate U.S. support for the Nigerian people’s fight against Boko Haram and Ansaru.” 

“While also addressing the legitimate concerns of the people of northern Nigeria” — such language suggests that the terrorism is an operation of Nigerian unrest about the economy or other social concerns. 

As it happens, Boko Haram’s motivations are completely different. The group, whose name means “Western education is sinful” in the native Hausa language, is formally known as the Congregation of the People of Tradition for Proselytism and Jihad and has become known for demanding Christians convert to Islam or die.

Obama Administration Figure Says Israel is Stirring Up a War With Iran

But according to Obama and his friends, Israel is the one stirring up war.

A top White House official has declared that Israel’s proposal that Iran totally dismantle its nuclear capacity in exchange for sanctions relief would likely lead to war.

According to JTA, the unnamed official made the comments in a conference call on Wednesday with think tanks and advocacy groups sympathetic to the Obama administration’s Iran strategy.

A think tank participant on the call said that Israel’s posture, demanding a total halt to enrichment and the dismantling of all of Iran’s centrifuges, was a path to war.

Agreeing that such reasoning was “sound,” the White House official said that given a choice between “total capitulation” and advancing toward a nuclear weapon, Iran would choose the weapon.
