Imam Calls Jews "Filth", Begs Allah to Kill Them, Toronto Star Says, "Words Are Like Prisms"

It is about an imam who made hurtful mistakes that he could not adequately explain. But it is also about the slipperiness of language — especially in a climate of viral misinformation, polarized debate and geopolitical conflicts that have found fresh battlegrounds in Canada. 

Elkasrawy’s prayers were undeniably problematic, but they were also distorted to fit a certain narrative that gave his words added potency amid rising anti-Islamic sentiment. In a controversy that hinges on his words, a central question was never fully investigated:  

Did Elkasrawy really say Jews were filth? Did he really call for them to be killed? 

According to several Arabic experts contacted by the Star, the answer is no. 

“I’ve learned a personal lesson throughout this entire process,” Farber says. “Do not take anything for granted. Not even words.” 

Translation is not an exact science. Words are like prisms, refracting different shades of meaning. A good translation is one that captures the right hue. ... 

But such stories contained a glaring oversight: this was not at all what Elkasrawy said. 

Ayman Elkasrawy prefers not to speak at all, whenever he can help it. At about six feet and 285 pounds, the bearded and bespectacled 32-year-old has an understated presence for someone who looms so large. 

He speaks softly and hesitantly; in the presence of strangers, he tends to fade into the background. 

“I’m not so good at being social,” he says. “The more you talk, the more you make mistakes.”

According to the guidelines, journalists should, among other things, "Provide an appropriate range of opinions, including those belonging to migrants and members of minorities, but... not... extremist perspectives just to 'show the other side'.... Don't allow extremists' claims about acting 'in the name of Islam' to stand unchallenged.... where it is necessary and newsworthy to report hateful comments against Muslims, mediate the information."

It's time for a special counsel on Hillary Clinton's Russia scandal

The Hill:

When the story broke in April 2015 that the Obama administration, with the help of Hillary Clinton’s State Department, paved the way for Russia to gain control of 20 percent of America’s uranium, it sent shock waves through the halls of power in Washington. It caused red flags to go up and raised scores of questions with enormous implications. 

Many people wondered why the United States would give Russia and Vladimir Putin a sweetheart deal like this. In the context of the 2016 presidential campaign, the central questions were about the money flowing to the Clinton Foundation, accusations of pay for play with financial benefits for the Clintons winning out over national security concerns, and why the Obama Justice Department seemed to do nothing about it.

There was more than enough smoke for the FBI to investigate official government favors in exchange for big donations to the Clinton Foundation, but agents ran into a hyper-politicized Attorney General in Loretta Lynch, whose public integrity section said it “did not have enough evidence to move forward,” according to to Washington Post in October 2016. 

Last week, blockbuster allegations surfaced in The Hill shedding light on what was happening inside the Obama administration and FBI while Russia was seeking control of massive amounts of our uranium supply. It turns out that the Obama administration inexplicably approved the uranium deal with Russia even though the FBI was investigating a massive corruption scheme that included bribery, extortion and other felonies involving Russia’s nuclear energy industry in the United States. 

Also during this time, under the leadership of its chief diplomat Secretary of State Clinton, the Obama administration was prioritizing and very publicly working to “reset” America’s relationship with Russia. 

Then Attorney General Eric Holder, who along with Lynch has faced harsh scrutiny for running a politicized Justice Department, was overseeing the FBI probe of Russia at the time. Holder also happened to be on the foreign investment committee that controlled the fate of the questionable Russian uranium deal along with Hillary Clinton. 

Citizens United’s discovery of Russia-related Clinton emails through its Freedom of Information Act litigation revealed in The Hill that Bill Clinton sought to meet with the director of a Russian nuclear energy firm and other top Russian businessmen while on a trip to Moscow for a $500,000 speech, just months before Hillary Clinton helped seal the Uranium One deal in October 2010. 

To make matters worse, The Hill reported that the FBI busted a Russian spy ring that had infiltrated the Clintons’ orbit the day before the former president’s lucrative speech. Why Congress and the public at large were kept in the dark about this ongoing investigation is a troubling question. 

The Obama administration was clearly looking to make the reset of U.S.-Russia relations one of its top foreign policy success stories for the 2012 reelection campaign. If the Robert Mueller-led FBI corruption investigation was made public at the time, the uranium deal could have gone sideways, and the Russia reset would have been ridiculed as a silly idea by a naive administration.   

When President Obama belittled Mitt Romney at a 2012 presidential debate for calling Russia our top foreign policy threat, it made clear that Obama and Clinton had a lot riding on their Russian gamble. Now we’ve learned through The Hill reporting that a key FBI informant in the Russian corruption case was blocked by the Obama Justice Department from testifying before Congress. 

This individual must now be cleared to tell his story to congressional investigators without delay. 

The questionable actions of the Obama Justice Department and FBI peaked in June 2016, when a secret and highly inappropriate meeting between Attorney General Lynch and Bill Clinton was exposed on the eve of FBI Director James Comey’s unorthodox announcement that Secretary Clinton would not be prosecuted in the case involving her private email server. It’s been revealed since then that Comey had actually written a draft memo clearing Hillary Clinton before her FBI interview took place. 

Citizens United called on Lynch to appoint a special counsel in the Clinton email case and related matters in July 2015. We questioned how Lynch, a former appointee of President Clinton, could run an impartial investigation of the former president’s spouse who was on her way to being the Democrat nominee for president at the time. 

When the tarmac meeting between the two became public, our suspicions were confirmed. Now with the new allegations surrounding Russian corruption and the Uranium One deal, Attorney General Jeff Sessions must finally appoint an impartial special counsel to thoroughly investigate these matters.

There is only one word to describe the manner in which Rep. Frederica Wilson has manipulated the emotions of a grieving and pregnant widow of a slain soldier: 

Wickedness.  

As a member of a community involved in the healing arts The Last English Prince has been in the presence of the aftermath of physical crime. 

We can heal most physical wounds given sufficient time. Healing is the slow unfolding of a restorative miracle. But wounds against the soul (mind, will and emotion) require more delicate care and concern. 

A woman who has been physically assaulted in violent manner can receive reconstructive surgery and medications to relieve her physical pain. But it may take a lifetime to resolve the grief surrounding what was perpetrated against her. 

The wounds which Ms. Wilson has inflicted on the widow Myeshia Johnson are a criminal act, yet in a category which cannot be punished. Manipulation of grief is a crime against the most vulnerable. 

Rep. Frederica Wilson is not different than the man who convinces a widow her roof needs replaced and then merely hammers on a couple of new shingles, changes a lightbulb in the house, and cashes a large check. (true story) 

Regarding Myeshia Johnson and her complaint (an understandable one) that she has not seen the remains of her husband – there is no wickedness involved in the decision of the military. 

Having attended the funeral of a young soldier who was killed in Baghdad years ago I noted the careful reconstruction of facial features, including a set of eyelashes. 

Perhaps – what remains in the casket of U.S. Army Sgt LaDavid Johnson is a history lesson regarding the violence we invoke upon ourselves when we take the oath. 

Immense kindness – may be involved in any decision to keep a military casket closed. 

As for the widow Myeshia Johnson, kindness involves comfort for those who mourn. True comfort displays in the Biblical kindness of the friends of Job who traveled to sit beside him in silence – as he took a pot shard and scraped his wounds. 

Representative Frederica Wilson has taken her own pot shard and scraped wounds beyond debridement and on into the arena of inflicting greater emotional trauma. She is a wicked woman. A political predator. Call her not among the camp of the righteous.

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) urged the Justice Department to remove a nondisclosure agreement preventing a confidential former FBI informant from testifying before Congress for the criminal probe into the Uranium One deal. 

DeSantis, a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in an interview on Fox News on Sunday that he has spoken with the informant who “helped the FBI uncover this bribery scheme,” leading to bombshell reports about an Obama-era deal allowing a Russian-backed company to purchase a uranium firm that controls mines in the U.S. At the time of the deal, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was serving as secretary of state, and several investors in Uranium One were Clinton Foundation donors and had ties to her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
