Egregiastes

1. Insanity, insanity saith the blogger. All is insanity.

2. For what doth it profit a political party, to gain power, only to lose donors by laying upon them heavy taxes? It then must needs extract its lucre by means of force, and thus risk the wrath of its former supporters, who then turn to other parties and give of their means to vote out them whom they formerly supported.

3. Insanity, insanity, mocketh the blogger. All is insanity.

4. How great and imminent is the fall of that nation, where once she traveled the stars, and to the moon, and gazed in awesome wonder at the Vast and Beauteous Creation, yet now she groveleth in the dust before the ignorant and rash sons of Allah, the scions of their prophet's backwardness and savagery.

5. Insanity, insanity, rageth the blogger. All is insanity!

6. For one generation smiteth its progeny, when they are inconvenient, and then, in the fullness of age, waxeth old and demandeth of the young who are fewer, to support them in their dotage, and find it is now their turn to be inconvenient.

For the paper is printed, and the paper is thrown away, the debt is run up, and the books are burned upon the pyre, the money runneth like a river to the sea, and yet the tax coffers are never filled.

God did unburden man, but he has sought out many weights.

This life is fearsome, and in our fear we sell it.

Well, gee, Jewel, sorry about not having got round to providing the resistence with important things such as "progeny". Will it be sufficient pennance that I'm here at the ripe age of 66 keeping abreast of the machinations of a religio-political menace I loathe and schlepping down to NYC to protest shahid-head mosques instead of quietly enjoying my retirement?

Because we all know that if I and all other good white Western women had had many fine sons, none of them would have turned out to be couldn't-care-less-about-Islam Obamabots like my brother has.

I've been reading too much Mark Twain lately. He's a bad influence on my uppityness meter.

I mindest not even a jot or a tittle.

"Connecticut Yankee" is a gem. Didn't someone here recommend it?

I've only read Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and a few snarky essays.

I like Twain, though. I've gotta sit down and read much, much more.

jau jau, I'm a girl. And yeah, it is way too late, thank goodness.

In "Connecticut Yankee" Twain's hero, "Hank", gets magically transported from the 19th century to Camelot in the 6th. He is merrily technologizing Camelot on the sly with lots of snarky references to the various aspects of the Dark Ages along the way. Just the whole bit about him dealing with full body armor is totally Terry Pratchett.

Btw, it's driving me nuts -- what is that lady in the painting doing with the fried eggs and the soup?

Ah yes, I plumb forgot! And you have to use your imagination. I just sort of scour for art that I like that goes somewhat with the story.
