OMG, can we please run him for President in two years? He's far more "American" than the one we've got.

Revere Rides Again,

Unfortunately no, we can't have him as our president. However, before you recommend amending the constitution so that non natural born citizens can run for America's highest office, look at and think about the reasons why the founding fathers put that requirement in the constitution. They had their reasons.

Revere Rides Again,

Besides, I see no reason to think that Wilders even wants to be our president, yet alone live in the states. Also, maybe Europe needs someone like him, even more than we do. Things are in many ways, worse over there, than they are here.

I think we should use that type of debate for the 2012 Presidential race. Can you see Obama choking up when someone actually confronts him face to face like Wilders was doing?

I know he couldn't be and no, I don't want to change the natural born citizen rule, it is there for excellent reasons -- though it has probably been honored more in its absence lately.

Wilders would eat Obama's brain for lunch and spit out his eyeballs. (Can you tell it's 2 weeks to Halloween and I live next door to Salem, MA?) I would not be surprised to hear him dissect every element of Teh One's myth and tell him what he is right to his face: a Western Civilization-resenting, racist Marxist lying slaves-of-Allah groupie who is sliding into an extended pout because his Alinsky dream isn't proceeding right on schedule. Wilders maintains the highest principles but he isn't afraid to identify outright "scum" when he sees it. I suppose at this point there's not much left for him to be afraid of anyway.

But realistically, who will we have of his stature in 2012 to run against the Obamullah? We've got a lot of people with some of what's needed, but who has it all?

Revere Rides Again,

You may get at least one of those things, sort of. Someone might ask Wilders what he thinks of Obama and what he's doing to fight Jihadists.

Damien,

As you know by now, I'm not a Gringo, but my curiosity compels me to ask you : -
1 - What were the reasons the founding fathers put that requirement in the constitution ? If I'm not mistaken, it has 10 amendments...

2 - I agree with the "Rider" ! Leadership is gained by virtues and measured by the ability to transcend them to the people ! Can you give me the names of the 'Best' five Americans and their place of birth ? Can you give me the names of the 'Worse' five Americans and their place of birth ?

3 - What are the chances for a 100% "pure" American and proven Leader of a Nation - let's say, the Chief of the Apache Nation to get the job of the POTUS ?... just asking!...

P.S.
The young State of Israel at the early 50's, offered the Presidency to that pacifist who invented the atomic bomb! He refused... and not because he wasn't a "Sabra" ( Israeli born ), he wasn't even a citizen ! Any how, he managed to get a bank note with his picture on it !...

Alex,
The natural born citizen is not one of the original ten of the Bill of Rights.

It is part of the fourteenth amendment, and it's purpose was to make the freed slaves citizens.

It now has a broader scope than was originally intended.

This is my understanding. Perhaps I am a bit off. MR or Epa could probably clarify things.

The requirement that the President be a natural born citizen is found in Article II, Section 5 of the Constitution.

Alexander Münch,

Here's the exact from the constitution. Its in article 2, section 1 actually.

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

Alexander Münch,

From what I understand, the founding fathers put that in their because they were worried about subversion. They also feared that someone born outside the United States might have divided loyalty.

Sadly, we won't get an American Geert Wilders here in the States until the situation with Islam grows more critical and Islam is strong, strong, strong within our borders.

Always On Watch,

I hope you're wrong about someone like him not becoming popular here until things are much worse. Luckily, we already have a few politicians who would fit the bill, none of them are that well known unfortunately.
