Act of conscience would have been to step down or resign voluntarily.<br /><br />When in the Navy I was taught that our branch was the harshest regarding insubordination and the rules were due to our history of wooden ships. On a ship, the Captain's word was law. All who disobeyed were punished because mutiny caused disaster.<br /><br />I was once chastised along with two other officers for breaking convoy with our vehicle, while traveling back from a field ops here in the U.S. I was not the driver. This was done in public manner. And then, I was invited to meet with the OIC in his office. <br /><br />Bad time... had by all. smile<br /><br />The decision was one which had to be made for good order and discipline.
