Get a grip, swallow hard, and SNAP OUT OF IT, there's more coming

If movie trailers are supposed to cause a reaction, the preview for "United 93" more than succeeds. Featuring no voice-over and no famous actors, it begins with images of a beautiful morning and passengers boarding an airplane. It takes you a minute to realize what the movie's even about. That's when a plane hits the World Trade Center. The effect is visceral. When the trailer played before "Inside Man" last week at the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, audience members began calling out, "Too soon!" In New York City, where 9/11 remains an open wound, the response was even more dramatic. The AMC Loews theater on Manhattan's Upper West Side took the rare step of pulling the trailer from its screens after several complaints. "One lady was crying," says one of the theater's managers, Kevin Adjodha. "She was saying we shouldn't have [played the trailer]. That this was wrong ... I don't think people are ready for this."

This makes me a bit sick.

  1. You are wrong. People are legitimately disturbed by this. Not trying to censor, but these are people going to see a different movie. No reason they need to be thrown back to 9/11 if that is not what they paid to see. Imagine your friend or your relative or your spouse died on 9/11, and then you are forced to relive the experience in a movie trailer.

You shouldnt be subjected to that. You paid a good amount of $$ to see something different.

  2. That's a good point ... but so sorry, there is NO PLACE TO HIDE. Not emotionally, not physically, and in 20 minutes, just like these poor bastards/heroes it can all be quite different from a day's work.

What you are saying is that people don;t want to have a night 'away' ruined by reality.

In NYC they yelled 'Too soon' ..well that's why they never show the planes hitting the buildings on TV anymore.

We're too sensitive? Too sensitive for reality?

ZEN... embrace it as closely as you can.

  3. demo,
what happened to 'we'll never forget'? I think this is good timing because people ARE forgetting, or are trying to. and as the post points out, we'll be in trouble if we do.

  4. Too soon? Hell no!! Like anonymous said, it is good timing since people have forgotten. This lag is causing the loss of will in the WOT.

As far as the movie and the families of those that were lost that day. They all were asked if they approve of this movie prior to it's inception. They all agreed to it. So, for those of us out here who are not relatives, tough shit. Time to remember, "We'll Never Forget" before we have something else to try to remember.

  5. I'm with you, Christine. Where will these people hide if these "martyrdom brigade" fools in Iran make it in and start detonating in, say, movie theaters or other public places? We need to see the truth and be reminded of 9/11 EVERYDAY. And the ones who lost people on that day, I assure you, probably can never get it out of their minds for long as it is. That's just how violent death leaves people. Jarring? Yes. Necessary jarring? That too.
