Here’s a documentary from BBC2, on the appalling execution by Iran of a 16-year old girl, Atefah Sahaaleh, for violating shari’a law. LGF covered this story of medieval misogyny in 2004: Justice in the Islamic Republic.
Here's the direct link to the video. Be warned, there you'll find gruesome images of hangings, lashings and public stonings.
(Atefah was very pretty like Madhuri--an Indian actress. One can see a poster of Madhuri at the three-minute point.)
Thank you! I can't believe this is online! This has been of much discussion on one message board I frequent, where I have even changed my avatar to a picture of Atefeh. I had just read and written so much about her. One of my favorite articles about her was written by an Iranian man, about why she was his "Miss Universe". Due to the systems of given names in Iran, she is alternately written about as Atefeh Rajabi if one happens to be searching for info on her. All different names and spellings are given at her page on Wikipedia. Thanks again, I had wanted so much to see this.
