In a word? Homeschool. CAIR is rejoicing, of course.
VA: LIVING AS MUSLIM
The Spotswood High School students are researching the Muslim culture and finding out how much no one really knows about this culture that is sometimes is negatively stereotyped by the public.
"What's the first thing that comes to your mind when I say Islam?" said Casey Morris.
"Iraq," a fellow student replied.
That's what Casey Morris hopes to eliminate through his research project, the stereotypes the public has about Muslims. Not only will he learn about the culture by wearing traditional Muslim clothing and praying five times a day, but "Also going without pork for 30 days, that's going to be rough but we'll make do," said Morris.
Morris says he is prepared for the criticism that comes along with it.
"Yeah, we're probably going to get some funny looks as we go down the hallway. I'm expecting comments maybe here and there. You know what, I'll be honest, I'll be disappointed if we don't get some," said Morris.
Members of the Muslim community here in the Valley say many people don't understand the Muslim culture. . .
Are the girls going to wear full hijab? Will the boys get to beat them with batons if their ankles show? Will the boys and girls have to pray in separate rooms and forcibly prevent any "infidels" from entering? Along with the pork, will they be forbidden music for a month? If the family dog is a black lab will it have to be stoned to death? Are the kids old enough for forced marriages yet?
ReplyDeleteHell, will ANYTHING be experienced in a negative light or will it all be tickity-boo and fluffy bunnies?
I wonder what the reaction would have been in 1939 had a classroom full of kids been assigned to live as Hitler Youth for a month. Yeah, all the Zeig Heil stuff is a drag, but look at the spiffy uniforms and the kids are all so obedient and polite now...
As noted yesterday, the Joint Staff at the Pentagon has been briefing selected audiences on the Al Qaida point plan for world domination. And what is the basis of the Joint Staff's strategy to counter this diabolical plan?
Hearts and minds, people. Hearts and minds.
Whose? Theirs or ours?
We are supposed to win the Long War by building schools and roads and soccer stadiums for the enemy and teaching our kids how wonderful their culture is? And when the next 9/11 type attack comes, who are these kids supposed to think carried it out? The Eskimos? Not the Muslims, of course, they've learned how nice all those people are.
For God's sake!
ReplyDeleteThis high school is in the Shenandoah Valley, which used to be largely Mennonite/Church of the Brethren. Information about the school is HERE.
Somebody needs to tell the pacifists in the Valley what's what.
On what grounds is this insulting, utterly invasive experiment found to be meaningful? This con is way out of his league.
ReplyDeleteMy first reaction is to DEMAND EQUAL time and emphasis on the faith system of EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT - the entire STATE - hell, this ENIRE NATION.
On every desk in the participating classes I would expect to find and witness full use of genuine copy of the Bible and Chumash/Torah with hands on experiences with Baptism, Communion, Mikva, . . .ok, I won't go so far as physical example of the Brit milah ("covenant of circumcision") - but you get the picture.
If this school district permits this, then demand full reciprocity and full open discussion exposing the reality of how much of Islam is stolen and distorted theology.
Otherwise this is a failed experiment as it displays the reality of the LIMITED pluralism it intentionally advocates.
This individual should get the controversy he so desires . . .and pay dearly.
Good idea, Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteSo when is the raping of the 9 year olds scheduled?
ReplyDeleteWhen does the caravan robbing start ?(i'd hate to own a Dodge in that town)
Wow, you all sound really intelligent categorizing one of the largest religions in the world as all terrorists. I hope you all realize that Islamic fundamentalist extremists are only an extremely small portion of the Muslim community. Saying that all Muslims are terrorists is comparative to saying all White Protestants are members of the KKK. Also, realize that this isn't a project forced upon the student. He chose to do this project because he was interested in the Muslim faith and to judge the reactions he would get from this experiment. Judging by what is on this page, he's correct in hypothesizing that there's a largely negative (yet false) notion that all Muslims are terrorists. Maybe you all can learn a little bit of tolerance and accept the fact that there are other cultures out there and that they're not necessarily evil.
ReplyDeleteOn a sidenote, to "Pastorious," you really showed your intelligence and level-headedness when you used "fuck" and misspelled "principal" in your response. Maybe next time check a thesaurus or dicitonary before you post eh?
And to "anonymous," I hope you realize that the school district wouldn't object for there to be other projects on different religions, but that no one else expressed any interest in doing a project on these other religions, and is intended to indeed show the one-sided views of many people on Islam. Hopefully you won't politicize the yearn for knowledge in our youth anymore.
