REPORT: NORTH KOREA TENTATIVELY AGREES TO DISARM

BEIJING (AP) -- The U.S. envoy to talks on North Korea's nuclear program said Tuesday that negotiators reached a tentative agreement on initial steps for the communist nation's disarmament.

Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said the agreement outlined specific commitments for North Korea and would set up working groups to implement those goals to begin meeting in about a month. He declined to give other details.

"I'm encouraged by this that we were able to take a step forward on the denuclearization issue," Hill said.

  1. The current headline over at Yahoo is:

as of 6:15 p.m. EST • North Korea nuclear talks hinge on energy aid

Why does this bring to mind Hugo Chavez/Kennedy alliance?

Kennedy has been on TV advocating Venezuela's 'gift' of oil for the needy.

I sense a shell game, if you will. N. Korea needs energy and appears to concede it's nuclear arsenal . . .but will it concede to the highest bidder or a despot who makes an unexpected play in anticipation of gaming the US for instant access to nuclear big boy toys?

  4. Even I, a casual observer of North Korea, can see that it's the standard stalling tactic. They were doing this back in the 90's: pretending to give in a little in order to get aid, then going right back to sabre-rattling afterwards. The Chinese are well aware that they have a huge refugee problem looming and are starting to fence their border with North Korea. The U.S. should hasten North Korea's total economic collapse by blockading North Korea's coast. Make this a Chinese problem and force them to focus their minds on toppling the Kim regime.

  5. I don;t understand THIS level of stupidity.

What use is an agreement with a government that has already admitted WILLFULLY breaking, in secret, the exact same agreement signed 13 years ago?

The american position should have been that given NoKo's admitted history FREE NATIONAL ACCESS by inspection teams would be the only verifiable outcome.

At least by us DINNER first.
