As always the real problems are never dealt with

U.S. mum as Saudi millions funding Wahabi mosques across North Africa

When will we make an end of this?
Why do we HAVE a CIA?
Why does OUR govt ..OURS..the people's, not act?

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia has been funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to establish Wahabi mosques and schools in North Africa.
The United States has been monitoring the flow of funds but has not conveyed any protest to Saudi Arabia or other GCC states. The Gulf funds are aimed to establish a Wahabi network in North Africa that would train Muslim clerics and teachers.
"I think we have underestimated the capabilities of Al Qaida to get a beachhead there," said Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee.
The Gulf money has been encouraged by Morocco and Tunisia. Officials said these Sunni states have been alarmed by the flow of funds from Iran to establish an insurgency infrastructure in North Africa.
"The Iranians want to promote Shi'ites in the region or those who are willing to follow Iranian dictates," an official said. "There is plenty of money going around."
Officials said Saudi princes and those close to the ruling family have been pouring money into the construction of mosques, schools and charities in such countries as Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. The Saudi funding, joined by those of other Gulf Cooperation Council states, is encouraged by the government in Riyad to increase the kingdom's influence in North Africa.

"Saudi foreign policy is primarily the promotion of the Wahabi doctrine," an official said. "It's problematic because the path from Wahabi doctrine to Al Qaida philosophy is quite short."

Duh, no really?
