Belarus hails 'strategic' ties with Iran
MOSCOW — Belarus plans to develop Iran's Jofeir oil field near the border with Iraq.
The former Soviet republic issued the announcement on May 21 during the visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Ahmadinejad met his Belarus counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
Officials said the field could produce as many as 30,000 barrels of oil per day.
Lukashenko said Minsk's relations with Iran have reached the "strategic level."
Belarus has supplied missile and other military technology to Teheran.
