If Bin Laden Told Them To Jump Off A Bridge, Would They? ... Uh, Never Mind, Don't Even Bother To Answer That Question

As if on cue, Pakistani Islamists are agitating for Musharraf to be run from office:

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Hundreds of Islamists chanting slogans against Pakistan's
military leader rallied outside the Supreme Court on Friday as judges heard
petitions challenging President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's right to run for
re-election.

In Islamabad, about 1,000 flag-waving supporters of
Pakistan's biggest religious party, Jamaat-e-Islami, gathered outside the grand,
white marble court house, shouting "Go, Musharraf, Go!" They were joined by
supporters of exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

"We will not
tolerate Musharraf. We will continue our campaign against him," lawmaker Hanif
Abbasi told protesters. "We will not tolerate him in or out of uniform."

Yep, just what we need, Jamaat-e-Islami getting their hands on the thirty or so nukes in Pakistan's arsenal.

I'd almost rather give monkeys some nukes to play with.

This is a friggin' ridiculous world we live it, isn't it?

  1. Latest word (still only 8 hits on Google) to enter the English language - APOSTAPHOBIA .

"...the new openness brought to the world through globalisation and developments in information and communication technologies is causing the power stakeholders and religious dictators of the non-free world to be seriously gripped by apostaphobia – a well-founded fear of loss of adherents, which is manifested primarily as uncompromising repression and denial of fundamental liberties, by violent and subversive means,"

  2. Good post Pas, Nice find Najistani. This kind of pack behaviour is symptomatic of a culture where religion has clearly been allowed to remain the control mechanism of the populace, by concious choice the power brokers have kept access to education and contradicting views out of reach of the masses, thus retaining an indoctrinated society (We all indoctrinate our young...Plato's discourse on indoctrination of the young....read as socialisation..)where easily malleable pawns can be guided in the desired direction. Pervez Musharraf represents a more modern (possible)incarnation of Pakistan and this threatens the traditional power broker in the region...Islam.
As for the recent sudden rush by former leaders of Pakistan, all under accusations of corruption, to return to political life in Pakistan shows that there the smell of blood in the air....I hope Musharraf survives this, he may have done deals with enemies but in the wider picture his agenda converges with ours. If he goes....it is only a matter of time (and not much at that)before a Talibanesque regime emerges, armed with Nuclear weapons. As this one plays out, I guarantee that Invasion plans for Pakistan preprepared in the Pentagon are being studied intently right at this moment.
I talk to Muslims about their beliefs....it's amazing how many of them can't even read ...English or their Native tongue....let alone the ancient Arabic the Koran is written in....and yet they unquestioningly not only submit to the word of Islam...but will die and murder for it....and yet they haven't personally read a single verse in the Koran...India will also be somewhat less than Impressed with a Taliban Pakistan....and they will not stay on their side of the border...
