A great comment, containing some very important questions, from Cousin Dave at LGF:
Here's something I've been wondering about.
Is this the only way that Europe can get itself motivated to fight off Islamofacism?
Is it really, after all these years and all these wars fought over the issue, still tribe vs. tribe in Europe?
Is it really the case that the values of Western civilization are not worth fighting for, but the values of racial identity are?
Is this what Europe's priorities are?
It's weird. It's like it's 1910 all over again. WWI and WWII never happened. The Cold War never happened. A century's worth of history and spillage of blood has been undone. Archduke Ferdinand is still stomping around Vienna, and the rest of the world waits to see if he will be shot or not.
The next war Europe is involved in won't be to defend itself against Islamism -- it will be a civil war, with multiple tribally-based sides, in an international bar fight. Meanwhile, the Islamists will stand on the sidelines, laughing and waiting for Europe to eliminate every last bit of its ability to defend itself.
I hope to God Cousin Dave is wrong, and I think he very well might be. Those who support Ethnic Nationalism are, at this point, in the minority in Europe as far as I can tell.
However, Europe has a way of bursting into a fire of hatred.
I dont believe you're asking the right question.
ReplyDeleteIs [Racism] the only way that Europe can get itself motivated to fight off Islamofacism?
You should ask
What are the things that can be used as rallying points for Europeans
Your original question is dripping in condenscension and will back fire.
That's a good point, Vince.
ReplyDeleteI admit that I am very frustrated.
Take a deep breath and relax, Pastorius. When I find the time, I will come back for another round of exchange with you. And I'm sure you'll find it very enlightening.
ReplyDeletePastorius,
ReplyDeleteHatred is an universal human shortcoming. It is not a European monopoly (or cartel). Remember Cain and Abel.
Europe is indeed fractured along national or "tribal" lines. Actually I expect Europe to fracture even below the level of nations. To the level of local areas and cities.
The scale of Social organisation increased through history because it brings a military and political advantage. Since nuclear weapons have become available mass armies make no sense anymore and there- fore the social organisations that created mass armies ar obsolete too.
Social organisations that have natural or organic cohesion will have an advantage in competing for a niche.
We will all be niche players soon. Gated community anyone?

It seems to me your vision of the future is bleak.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid I agree, though.
I would hardly say that is a positive development. Smaller communities have a habit of being more totalitarian in many cases. Small communities will tend towards the cultish. Small communities can easily be led by small charismatic men who would preach paranoia and superstition.
The worst part, though, is the idea that more people would have their hands on nuclear weapons. This is probably our inevitable future, but the more people who do have nukes, the more likely they will be used.
Pastorius:

Agreed. The upside is that we he gets to power, it will be Bumf***k in Blighty, rather than Brussels or Berlin, capital of Europe, that he will be running.
It is not in your or in my hands anyway.
