Make Something Up

Those of you who like to comment anonymously, I urge you to give yourself a name of some sort, because when several different people use Anonymous, we don't know which anonymous is which. Make something up. It's fun! How about X-man. Or Hellrazer. Or Mr. Calm. Or Voss. Or Mrs. Landmine. The Faceless Avenger? The Prophet of Doom? Terminator? T-1000?

An easy way to do it is to create a blog on Blogger using your cool new name (it only takes a couple of minutes to do) and don't bother blogging on it if you don't want. But then Blogger will automatically put your cool name on the comment form for you. You can do this with complete anonymity.

If you need ideas for names, I'm sure the commentators on this site can come up with some great ones (many of them already have). You may be surprised to learn that my name is not actually Mr. Warrior, although I do look a lot like the guy in the picture.

  1. When you see Damien make a comment, click on the name, and you'll see it is only an identity. No blog, no email address, no nothing. But when there is a comment from Damien, we know who it is. It's the person who has commented in certain ways in the past. We have a relationship. But that's impossible with Anonymous. I don't know how many of you use that. There could be ten of you.

  2. I start to think I recognize some of the Anonymi, but there usually are Anonymous commenters coming in and out through the blog on a constant basis, depending on the subject of the post.

We also often have people comment on old posts as Anonymous.

Here are some ideas for user names people could use if they don't want to use their real names. Note that this list is far from extensive. Maybe you could come up with your own. But you're welcome to use one of these.

  6. Citizen Warrior,
    Pastorius,
    et al,

Just to Let you know I updated my Profile, but I'm not giving out anything personal like email addresses. Just in case you guys are curious.

  7. Comments are as personal as is required, Damien, in which one describes one's self, pretty well.

As for the Anon's it hard to respond to one anon, and then have another say ... 'that wasn't me'

Choose the name of politician you can't stand.

That should open up about 20,000 names

  8. Epaminondas,

For me that would only give me about ten or twenty names at most. I don't know of too many politicians.

You could also you characters from movies or video games, as your user name. On the Play Station Network my user name is Duke Nukem.

  9. Damien,

I like your list. Banana? That cracked me up. And, besides, it would be easy to remember!

  10. Citizen Warrior,

    Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, Did you check out my updated profile?

  11. Yes I did, Damien. Very nice. I think you should create a new (anonymous) email address at Gmail, and then have it forwarded to the email address you usually use. If anyone wanted to say something to you, they could make a comment on the IBA, but they wouldn't know for sure you'd see it.

  12. Citizen Warrior,

Set up another email address at Gmail, special for people who want to contact me, who came across me on blogs? I'll consider it. Thanks for the Idea.

  13. All ye anonymouses, check out another person who comments frequently on the IBA, SamenoKami. Click on his name, and he's actually created two blogs with nothing on them. And you can do that too. You don't have to post anything, although you might some day. But it gives you an identity with Blogger, and makes it really easy to make comments in a way the rest of us can answer YOU and know it is you we are answering.

  14. I have an identity but prefer to limit it's use. For future posts, I'll still use the anon nic but sign off with this identifier . . .

    [ . . ]
    =\o/=

I used this moniker some time ago for another alias which no longer works . . .anon Y mouse.
