Inglorious Basterds

A band of eight Jewish special ops guys torture and kill Nazis. Yes!

"We're going to be cruel to the Germans, and through the evidence of our cruelty, they will know who we are."

I can't wait to see this movie. Tarantino has told interviewers this movie is simply "not anti-war misery."

In other words, Tarantino is going to give us what we've been waiting for these past few years; a war movie which revels in war's capacity to allow good to destroy evil.

CANNES, France (Reuters) - U.S. director Quentin Tarantino rolls a Western, gangster flick and wartime caper into one in "Inglourious Basterds," a new film starring Brad Pitt as the leader of a ruthless gang of Nazi-slayers. So fearsome is the band of Jewish-American "bastards" that Adolf Hitler himself comes to hear of them, and the violent and action-packed narrative weaves real life figures into a riotous and fanciful plot that re-writes history.

Most of the dialogue is in German and French and translated with subtitles, possibly limiting the film's box office potential in the United States.

But at the Cannes film festival, where Tarantino's picture is in the main competition, there was warm applause after a press screening on Wednesday.

Here's a video clip of the trailer.

  1. I first saw the trailer for this when Defiance came out. Looks very good. And surprising to see Pitt in such a role.

  2. Well, apparently Pitt and Jolie are fans of Ayn Rand.

  3. One point in favor: there's a lot of Ennio Morricone on the soundtrack.

  5. Pastorius,

Speaking of Nazis, here's another Film about them. Did you here anything about Iron Sky?

  6. Damien -- I hate Illinois Nazis :)

Pasto -- I did not know that about them. That'll learn me to make assumptions.

  7. I don't know, Pasto. I'm startin' to think we here at IBA might appropriate that motto -- A Basterd's Work is Never Done :)

  8. MR,
Yeah, just because someone adopts a bunch of African children does not make them a bleeding heart liberal.

    :)

  9. Actually it was the Hollywood stereotype I succumbed to, not the kids.

Which is a little odd because I've always found these two kind of interesting. I've not heard them utter much in the way of being liberal, and they've done some very good unHollywood things.

Course, I don't follow Hollywood much so I could be way off on that.

  10. Angelina Jolie very publicly campaigned for the lead role in the upcoming film Atlas Shrugged.

She called it a "once in a lifetime film".

I assume Pitt is of the same mind as her, because I don't think they would get along if he didn't agree. Rand is nothing if she is not a divider of houses.

    :)

Here's an article on Jolie and Rand:
