Residents have threatened to boycott a Domino's Pizza - after it took pork off its menu and now only offers halal food. Not long, at the rate things are going in certain sections of the UK.
Customers in Blackburn are angry that the managers of the store - which is located in a heavily populated Asian area - made the move in a bid to attract more Muslim clients.
Toppings now include halal pepperoni, halal spicy beef sausage, and customers wanting a Hawaiian pizza traditionally topped with ham will be offered the new version which features halal cured turkey along with pineapple and mushrooms.
[...]
[So]me residents have slammed the move on the grounds that they want to eat pork dishes and others saying they think that the halal slaughter method is cruel.
Mike Costa from Blackburn said: 'They have now set their stall out to cater for Muslim customers. They won't get my trade. That's their business risk though so good luck to them.'
Another resident said: 'This place has just lost our custom. Every week we used to order from there for a youth club, but after getting their 'new' menu it looks like Pizza Hut is now our place to go.'
Another fan said: 'How long before K.F.C, Mcdonalds and Burger King start to alter their menus to suit.'...
Beef is considered somewhat risky in the UK, what with Mad Cow Disease. I guess that Moslems aren't concerned about that, huh?
In The Anger and the Pride, Oriana Fallaci warned that the mushrooming up of more halal stores and eateries inevitably brought in the radicals from among the Sons of Allah - something the UK should consider.
I don't understand this. Why must they drop all pork. Why not offer both. Does it have to do with the way food is prepared, Can't prepare both Halal and regular food at same place?
ReplyDeleteHow do the Jews deal with this?
If I can't have my ham, THE MOOSELIMS HAVE TO GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete;-)
On a more serious note, I wonder what the hardcore Catholic OWNER of Dominoes will think of this policy when he hears about it?
ReplyDeleteI think you can be sure he'll be very, very angry.
Dude is a super-Catholic.
boycott them and put them out of business AND MAKE IT PUBLIC THAT IT CAN HAPPEN HERE
ReplyDeleteWC it probably has to do with preparation.
ReplyDeleteIf you get pork on the knives, NONE of them are Halal (or kosher), so to have both you need to keep ALL separate.
However, the minimal costs of doing so should not be that bad, and SHOULD be born by those who want Halal ...LIKE KOSHER FOOD, it costs more and people who are serious about Halal won't quibble about this. So the issue is NOT just this.
"Beef is considered somewhat risky in the UK, what with Mad Cow Disease."
ReplyDeleteNot true. Due to strict control measures beef is probably safer in the UK than anywhere at this time. In the supermarkets I always avoid Irish beef in favour of British beef because of lax cobntrol in Ireland.
As for halal I would say boycott any fast food chain that removes the food of our culture to pacify other cultures.
Ray,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction.
My UK friends tell me that they mostly avoid beef, though.
Always On Watch,
ReplyDeleteI hope they do boycott! I like pepperoni, and even through I don't live in the UK, this just ticks me off.
Forcing down religious beliefs of Moslims on those who are not Islamic should be stopped. The only way business will do is if we boycott them.
ReplyDeleteFOllowing Restaurants are Halal and should be boycotted:
JIMMY SPICES BIRMINGHAM
NANDOS
i'm a muslim, and i agree, why should you put up with it, we 9muslims) have enough places to go anyway so why is nandos, dominos jumping on the band wagon, their food is crap anyway. e.g. go to an traditional curry house and then get a curry from a pub lunch...you get my drift... also i am a firm beliver in the saying 'when in rome do as' and in islam it says respect the people who give you shelter...so in essence we sholud be more humble to the people in the UK...as for the fundimentalists, in backward england..trust me i have enough arguments with them...i say with the good honest people of the UK..ship then the f**k out of here!.. and i tell you one thing there are a lot more muslims who think like me...love peace to everyone...
ReplyDeleteThat's good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for speaking up.
The sad thing is, if you speak in public the way you speak up here, you would either be shouted down by the MPCUK or possibly even killed by the extremists.
Am I right?

ReplyDeletePastorius,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for Anonymous, and the rest of us, you are probably correct. But that's not the way it should be and its not impossible to change that.
why are you all having a fit for.. if you have a problem go to the head of the companies, they obviously see the business side of the change.. i for one dont care about dominos or kfc being halal dont favour the food much, makes u fat and all unhealthy... so while u have a gripe with the muslims which i am.. its not us that made the business change, the company thought it was the right move for them... so stop ur ranting.. go complain to the CEOs.. fools
ReplyDeletehaving halal options or changing the menu, doesn't make it impossible for non- muslims to eat.however, having haraam (non-halal) menu does make it impossible for muslims to eat, and is therefore discriminatory. im a muslim, and i dont see why non-muslims have an issue with this. as for the people not agreeing with the way that the animals are slaughtered, i am pleased to say a true islamic slaughter of an animal is the most humane you will find. to cage animals, or keep them cooped up in confined areas, stunning them or other mistreatement is forbidden and the chosen way of killing is quick and as painless as it can be. stop your ignorance
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteThis really isn't about the treatment of animals, or Muslims having Halal options. Its about the restourant changing its entire menu becouse some Muslims can't handle it, if there is anything on the menu that is not Halal, like say pepperoni. Yes, I know there's turkey pepperoni, but what about those who prefer pepperoni made out of pork? How is it fair to do something like take pork products off the menu, just becouse some people have a problem with it, but most want it? How is that fair to the majority? How would you like it if a bunch of restourants in your area took beef off their menues to appease a bunch of angry hindus?
Plus what's so bad if the owner of a restourant chooses not to have anything Halal on the menu at all? Muslims can just choose not to eat there. Its not like putting up a huge sign that reads "no Muslims allowed." Not catoring to a particular group is not the same thing as activily discriminating agianst that group.
Clearly in that area, it makes business sense to provide just halal. I am guessing almost all their customers are Muslim. If I operated in an area full of alcoholics, I would make sure alcohol is on my menu.
