She Is Bright - They Are Stuck On Stupid
As you know I have covered the Sarah Palin Hong Kong speech in a previous post. Neil sent me an e-mail link to this take on her speech.
Melvin Goodé, a regional marketing consultant, thought Mrs. Palin chose Hong Kong because, he said, it was “a place where things happen and where freedom can be expanded upon.”Over a year of blackening Sara's reputation down the tubes in one short quote.
“It’s not Beijing or Shanghai,” said Mr. Goodé . “She also mentioned Tibet, Burma and North Korea in the same breath as places where China should be more sensitive and careful about how people are treated. She said it on a human-rights level.”
Mr. Goodé, an African-American who said he did some campaign polling for President Obama, said Mrs. Palin mentioned President Obama three times on Wednesday.
“And there was nothing derogatory in it, no sleight of hand, and believe me, I was listening for that,” he said, adding that Mrs. Palin referred to Mr. Obama as “our president,” with the emphasis on “our.”
Mr. Goodé, a New Yorker who said he would never vote for Mrs. Palin, said she acquitted herself well.
“They really prepared her well,” he said. “She was articulate and she held her own. I give her credit. They’ve tried to categorize her as not being bright. She’s bright.”
I have always thought that the Democrats severely underestimated Sarah. Hopefully the Democrat politicians will stay stuck on stupid.
ahhh... I wonder how they like their crow, baked or fried...

I don't know... I seriously don't know. I am faaaar more right than I am left but I'm pretty convinced she's the village idiot as well. Folksy just doesn't cut it in my book. Folksy makes friends in Arkansas but it doesn't gain respect in Tehran. Then again we have a socialist knob goblin in the white house now so screw it, can't get any worse... then again I said that when Obama got elected. I WAS WRONG.
ReplyDelete"but I'm pretty convinced she's the village idiot as well"
ReplyDeleteIt would be childish and petty if I said "Takes one to know one" right?
ok, Im not going to leave it alone...at this point, I don't care if Iran respects the US, I want them to fear the US. I want them to have the same fear of the US they had when Ronald Reagan took office...remember that day--I seem to recall a few hostages coming home... Btw, some would say Reagan had a "folksy" way about him too.
ReplyDeleteIs it so hard to just say you don't think she is intelligent enough? Do you have to call her the village idiot? Really?
She's certainly not the village idiot, but I do think it was a mistake on her part to join McCain's campaign before she was well-versed in foreign affairs.
ReplyDeleteObama is not well-versed either, but the media gave him a pass.
Palin should have known she would not get the pass.
Palin quit her post, exactly what is expected from a lightweight.
ReplyDeletePalin WAS the governor of GUAM.
She is now a paid motivational speaker who ONLY completed her mayorship of meth ridden strip mall called Wasilla.
But way to go, Palin...$300,000.00 for an fact deprived speech,KA CHING!
Believe me, the dems will remain stuck on stupid. When it comes to Palin, that is the only way they know how to behave. That also applies to the likes of Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan, David Frum, and several other so-called conservatives. Anyone who thinks Palin is a lightweight apparently hasn't bothered to read the approx. 9 page excerpt from her speech which is posted on her Facebook.
ReplyDeleteMary... "It takes one to know one?" So then it would also take an Nuclear Physicist to recognize another one as well? Yeah, that saying has always made perfect sense. You might as well have said "I know you are but what am I." I am concerned with the direction my country has taken. My concern is not going to be alleviated by placing a minor league player at bat in the majors. We don't need another president who does not know exactly what he or she is doing... or exactly what to do. We do not need a puppet figure-head who isn't smart enough to not have her strings pulled by everybody with an idle hand. Ronald Reagan? This is a different time and a different place and the same old "remedy" simply won't do. All I'm saying is that nobody is going to fear Palin they're going to laugh at her. It'll be no change from what we have now except they'll laugh at the right rather than the left. Pastorius... Maybe, but at her age and with her line of work, she simply hasn no excuse for not being well versed in these things.
ReplyDeleteDillinger,
ReplyDeleteI will grant you that Palin was underqualified to run when McCain chose her.
It has always bewildered me that anyone in his camp could have thought that was a good idea.
HOWEVER, I do not think she is an idiot. In my opinion, you misunderestimate her too.
You say, " nobody is going to fear Palin they're going to laugh at her."
Oh really? And, that's why they STILL attack her even though she's barely a blip on the national political radar at this point? That's why they lawsuited her to death in Alaska?
If they did not fear her, they would not attack her relentlessly as they do.
One thing you do not seem to understand is that, in politics, the ability to draw crowds matters quite a bit. Esoteric ivory-tower thinking won't cut it, at least not on it's own.
You say Reagan was a different time.
Well then, my friend, you also misunderestimate Ronald Reagan. Look, I am a lifelong Democrat. I never voted for a Conservative until Bush in 2004. But, I'm telling you, you need to read the book Reagan's War. And, after you have, then come back here and tell me what an village idiot Ronald Reagan was.
He was the second most far-seeing President we have had in our history. Only Lincoln had a greater sense of history and purpose.
Even back in 1987 when I was a 20-something Leftist, I had to admit to myself (privately, of course) that Reagan achieved everything he said he would do.
If that is the work of a village idiot, then I hope I can be the village idiot.
First.
ReplyDeleteI NEVER claimed Reagan was an idiot. I simply said a Reagan is not what we need at the moment.
The ability to draw crowds is one thing, but then again Obama has the ability to draw crowds and look at him. David Duke has the ability to draw crowds and look at him. Madonna has the ability to draw crowds and look. It depends on the crowd and what exactly is being said. Yes she has followers but many in this country would follow anybody who promises a free baseball cap and chance to win a raffle.
We need a smart, saavy leader and I simply don't think that is her.
First, I think it was clear to everyone that I was being cheeky with my "takes one to know one" comment. You can be offended by it if you like though.
ReplyDeleteYou are entitled to your opinion of anyone, including me, I don't care...if you will re-read what I said, my objection was because you called her the village idiot.
I think language like that is unwarranted. Was she naive to believe that she would be given a fair shot by the msm? Was she on the national political stage before she was fully prepared? Yeah, I think so. But, I think like me, she has a tendency to believe the best in some people until they show the worst. It's an annoying trait,or so my husband tells me, but that doesn't make her an idiot.
Whatever your opinion of Ms Palin, I doubt very seriously she would have remained silent while unarmed civilians were murdered on the streets of Iran, or supported a thug while he tried to steal an election and a country, or go around the world apologizing and bowing and generally kissing the ass of every petty tyrant in the world.
I'll take people like Sarah Palin folksy over creepy people like oily smooth "intelligent" Obama anyday.
Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were implying Reagan was not smart, like Palin.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of Palin's point that before we do an overhaul of healthcare, we should do TORT reform?
Why has no one else come up with that?
Everyone else is bought off, I would presume.
Palin has spine.
She is not stupid.
She just has some learning to do.
That's my opinion.
The most intelligent President's we have had during my lifetime were Clinton and Carter. Well, Nixon was pretty damned intelligent too.
Reagan and Bush were not blazingly intelligent, and yet Reagan was a Great President, and Bush was extremely steadfast until the last two years of his Presidency when he fell apart.
I'm alright with all of these things. I was a little brash to say the village idiot I'll admit. I don't like the woman though. We have some very serious issues taking place in the world today. The rise again of the Russians and China to begin. North Korea and Iran with nukes. Radical Islam weaseling into our countries and culture. Jobs being moved out of country, etc, etc. I am not willing to say she simply wasn't ready and she'll learn. Would you elect a new college grad as C.E.O. of a fortune 500 and say the same thing? No, you wouldn't. She'll learn a little bit, but to prepare for such a possibility she should have been preparing for the past 20 years. I simply haven't seen anything she's done at all that makes her stand out as worthy of Governor in Alaska let alone Vice, or President. She's the reason McCain lost, and I fear that she'll be the reason for another loss.
ReplyDeleteOk.
ReplyDeleteWe will see over the next few years.
My take on Palin is that she is a great politician and campaigner, but a lousy manager. Too many things have fallen through the cracks on her watch from the large (remote villages in dire need of food and fuel and senior citizens dying while waiting for state-run healthcare) to the small (managing to keep up with correspondence and invitations or making sure her PAC was following the rules). If she can't govern a state of less than 1,000,000 people or keep her political affairs in order, how can she govern an entire country?
ReplyDeleteHow was her PAC not following the rules?
ReplyDeleteYou have to google it, but SARAHPAC awarded too much money to a certain candidate or candidates.
ReplyDeleteA PAC has guidelines, and SarahPac ignored those guidelines and just did what they wanted to.
That is a very vague discription of how SARAHPAC didn´t follow the rules, but nontheless they had to fix it.
They weren´t following standard PAC guidelines, and that IS bad management. All PACS follow the PAC guidelines, and SARAHPAC was working out of the lines. They fixed it.
DEO,
ReplyDeleteAre you and "Anonymous" the same person?
Here's what I find when I google it:
"Sarah Palin's leadership committee, SarahPAC, is now getting some annoying questions from people other than the media -- namely, the Federal Election Commission.
In an August 19 letter to SarahPAC, the FEC asked for more information on several irregularities in the PAC's mid-year report -- mostly consisting of failures to itemize on expenditures of certain sizes. In addition, it appears that SarahPAC neglected to properly file as a multi-candidate PAC, and thus made potentially illegal donations to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), with the checks weighing in beyond the limit for a non-multicandidate PAC.
It appears that this is probably not a matter of corruption. Rather, it may simply involve a level of negligence and ineptitude beyond the norm. For example, the FEC notes that the two checks to Murkowski and McCain were filed as being for the 2009 primary election, which does not exist. The FEC simply pointed out the error, and is counting them towards the 2010 campaign."

Is that the problem you are speaking of?
