After spending an hour filling out a job application online (the only way allowed) for Loves truck stop, I was instantly turned down. The job I was applying for was Administrative Assistant, something I am clearly qualified for.
Why was I instantly turned down? Could it be the 50 personality questions I had to answer? Did they turn me down because I answered agree instead of definitely agree?
What does this tell you about employers these days? That instead of being honest, I was required to lie to get the job?
Next, I went to the only other employer (Zappos) even remotely close by (a mile plus walk for me) to fill out their app, for a Fullfillment Center Team Member, a position I am definitely not eligible for (over qualified, no experience)..
Their questions included: If you could be a superhero who would it be and what superpower would you have? Why?
And,
If every time you entered a room your theme song played, what would it be and why?
Really looking forward to that interview. Thought I would be afraid of answering the question, Why do you want this job? Of course answering that question honestly won't fly either (cause I need a job asap or else)
And people wonder why it's so hard to get a job these days.
I'm fucked.
Lowes, Home Depot, Petco, Giant (and other) supermarkets, most retail positions on and on and on have you fill out this kind of stupid shit. It takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour on average.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind I fill this kind of stuff out to hold me over until I can get my career back on track.
BUT. . .
How many phone calls, how many emails, how many cover letters & resumes could I send out in the same amount of time it takes me to fill out an app for one of these positions?
It has all gone sideways.
Oh! And then only to get the email that they don't think the position will be challenging enough for me. . .

Are you kidding me?
These are questions that I'd ask one of my lower school classes (Grades 5-8). The questions are not even worthy to be asked of high schoolers -- except for yearbook pages and such.
