All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

Clint Eastwood - Full Speech at the RNC
Wow. I am really surprised.
This is good stuff.
The media is saying Clint Eastwood was incoherent, addled, and confused.
The man spoke without notes, without a teleprompter, off the cuff. And he introduced himself at the beginning of the speech telling you he doesn't believe in razzle-dazzle, saying, "Conservative people, by the very nature of the word, play it close to the vest. They don't go around hot-dogging it."
Got it? He's not going to put on a fucking show for you. How hard is that to understand.
The problems we have are much more serious than that. As Eastwood notes, we have 23 million people out of work. That is serious enough to make Eastwood cry.
Unlike our celebrity President, Clint Eastwood does not believe he, or his celebrity ought to be the center of attention. He thinks the American People ought to be the Center of Attention.
This is a great speech, by an American concerned with the direction of the country, stepping up, and doing what he can to help us move into a better direction.
I only read about Eastwood's speech on google news.
ReplyDeleteThe impression I got from that was that "an old man got up on the podium and no one understood what he was saying. They only let him on because he calls himself Clint Eastwood."
However after watching the speech I have to wonder whether any intelligence and English language test is required for one to be a journalist. Because if they can't understand simple words put together by Eastwood to convey a message that's easy to understand, I come to only one conclusion: They are a bunch of degenerate morons!
Yes, exactly.
ReplyDeleteHere's what the article I read said,
"Eastwood seemed to speak without notes, without a Tele-Prom-Ter and without a clue of what he wanted to say. ... He rambled about how America needed a businessman in charge. He came very close to using the f-word, making several feints at it. And he ran some ongoing gag about how he'd talk as long as he wanted to.
The weirdness seemed to discomfit the audience... He may have been incoherent. But live TV is set up exactly for the Good, the Bad and the Spacey."
After reading that, I thought, "Oh no, one of the men I admire the most, for having remained intensely creative into his 80's - indeed some people have even said he has done his best work of late - is finally losing it. I don't want to watch this."
And then I watch is, and as I am, I'm looking for some disjointed sentences. But, I find none. All the thoughts flow from one to the next.
Here's what I think may have confused people. People who watch TV are used to watching TV actors and anchormen and other people who have mastered the art of television.
But, Eastwood is a movie actor. In fact, he is a movie actor who is specifically known for mumbling and growling most of his lines. He doesn't do the comedic rhythm of sitcoms. His specialty is speech that sounds natural.
As he was acting the part of a man who gets to "have a chat" (his words) with the President, he was speaking the way such a man would. He was not yukking it up. He was stammering in his attempts to interrupt the man from whom we have come to expect no answers as he sits in his empty chair, filling his empty suit; Barack Obama.
It was actually well-acted stagecraft.
The fact that the other person had to be imagined sitting there, may have made it even harder for Libs, who get the entirety of their reality spoonfed them by the TV-heads of the MSM.
I watched it live, and was lookin forward to it since the news leaked.
ReplyDeleteI was not disapponinted. A bit surprised that it was a well done stand up routine. I was afaid he was going to be stiff and serious. He played it well, then to be followed by a very soer Rubio was excellent.
The only thing I thought was that Clint was actually just a little nervous, especially at the beginning. This was, after all, probably his bigest live venue ever.
He handled it perfectly.
Halftime in America indeed.
Pastorius,
ReplyDeleteSo, I see that we completely agree on this.
Last night, I was watching CNN, and one of the commentators said something along these lines: "Romney would have better off without Clint Eastwood's speech."
I couldn't believe my ears!
Anyway, Eastwood is obviously a young man. Also obviously, he knew exactly what he was doing.
Eastwood has a new film coming out the end of September: Trouble with the Curve. Mr. AOW and I are going -- not only because we admire Eastwood but also as our little political statement after the speech last night at the RNC.
ReplyDeleteHe has some great movie over the past few years,
ReplyDeleteUnforgiven and
Gran Torino
are classics in my opinion.
I have not seen Mystic River.
They are losing their minds over it. ANd obama's tweet response with the pic of him in the chair is a perfect illustration of these monors being without a clue
ReplyDeleteThey are losing it.
Hi Epa.
ReplyDeleteA cornered 'democ'RAT' is the most dangerous.
How far will they go to remain in power?
Wife & I were impressed also. We thought the irony and light touch were needed to give us a break from the hard sell. Besides, it was refreshing to see that as an actor/director he wasn't passing himself off as an expert on economics and foreign diplomacy.
ReplyDeleteAnd he did it without a script or teleprompter, and in "one take." Let Joe Biden ad lib ...
A G R E E ! ! !

I have always loved Clint Eastwood. Pastorious may I suggest a little movie from 1974 titled "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot"? I just saw it last Saturday on our local PBS station. He stars with Jeff Bridges. Very moving film!
