Democracy protesters shut down the a bridge in Istanbul on the second day of mass protests.
The protests started after the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to redevelop historic Gezi Park in Istanbul’s Taksim Square into a shopping mall. This upset locals who staged a sit-in protest. The protests escalated into a mass uprising after the original group was attacked by government forces.
What started at the beginning of the week as an environmental protest aimed at saving the park from a shopping mall has snowballed into a national display of anger at the Erdogan government.
The central subway station in the city’s metro network, has reportedly been shut down in an effort to keep more people from reaching the ongoing protests
PASTORIUS COMMENT: If Obama and Erdogan are as close as I believe they are, we will soon see the United States intervene in some way to save Erdogan's ass.
This is pathetic! For nearly a century "Pravda"was another word for lies coming from the state, if it was not reported on Radio Free Europe or the BBC and today we have go to Russian TV to get almost true news.
