Tarik (Terry) Dehko after suing the federal govt (IRS) for RETURN of $35k seized from his grocery store account.
The IRS, claiming he was purposefully trying to dodge the law which requires banks to report deposits over $10k sucked all the cash he had in his business account 8 months ago. He employs 30 people at his family owned grocery store.
Of course, Mr. Dehko a first generation immigrant, could have told them his insurance policies insure ONLY up to $10k cash deposits at any one time.
If there is a better example of the govt run amok on individuals than this one, over a family business, I can’t imagine what it could be.
No claim of a broken law is made by the govt.
This is pure 100% Kafka. ‘We make up so many rules, you are all breaking them, even though you will never know it, UNTIL WE LOOK. Which we will do when it pleases us’

USA TODAY:
Civil forfeiture is now one of the most serious assaults on individual rights in America. It allows the government to take cash, cars, homes and other property from people without ever convicting or even charging them with a crime. Worse, civil forfeiture turns the American principle of innocent until proven guilty on its head. To get their money back, Terry and Sandy must go to court against the full might of the Department of Justice to prove their innocence. In fact, the vast majority of civil forfeiture cases nationwide are never heard by a judge or jury because victims can seldom afford to fight the seizures.
HAT TIP CHRISTINE ON THIS INCREDIBLE STORY
Posted on this earlier. It bears repeating:
ReplyDelete1) Dehko did not commit a crime.
2) Dehko was never accused of committing a crime.
3) Dehko was never investigated for the commission of a crime.
The IRS saw a pattern in his bank deposits that led them to ASSUME he was manipulating money so as to avoid filing Form 8300.
So they seized his bank account and gave him the middle finger.
This is absolutely outrageous but very few Americans can even be bothered.
If you ran this story on DU or KOS the overwhelming comment content would be some variation of "served him right" it's the government's money anyway.
We are in trouble, deep trouble.
