"the PLO is negotiating on behalf of the Palestinian people. Anyone who joins the PLO will be bound by its decisions”

Hanan Ashrawi on Abbas saying that a unified govt of HAMAS and the PLO would not affect negotiations in any way, after Abbas said the PLO would fully recognize Israel, causing what one would call skepticism.
Of course , moments later..

Hamas denies willingness to recognize Israel

'Washington Post' quoted Hamas official as saying such move would be discussed as part of unity deal with PLO
Hamas on Sunday fiercely denied American media’s reports it is considering recognizing Israel.
According to aWashington Post's report, Taher al-Nunu, a media adviser for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, said Saturday the Islamist group is considering recognizing Israel. However, such move would have to be discussed with the PLO as part of the efforts to form a new unity government comprised of the two Palestinian rival factions.
Al-Nunu denied the report, saying this was yet another an attempt to weaken Hamas’s stance towards Israel. Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a top Hamas leader, added the group will not recognize Israel as long as “our land is under occupation.”
Sorry, for the naive, but HAMAS would no longer be HAMAS if they or any govt they were a part of recognized Israel and it’s rights. HAMAS has said only muslims have a right to a ‘waqf consecrated by God for the muslims’ and that all negotiations are pointless.
IN
THOSE
WORDS
More they have declared over and over that only jihad can resolve that situation. They are the Muslim Brotherhood.
Draw your own conclusions.

UPDATE:

HAMAS previously mum on reconciliation, says it may sue Washington Post for reporting it is set to soften its stance
