Muslim Immigrants UK: There Is No England Now!

It concludes that Muslims assimilate less well to the culture of the UK than other groups typically do. The findings include the following:

1) Contrary to the performance of most groups, Muslims do not become significantly less religious after a long period of time in the UK.

2) Contrary to the performance of most groups, Muslims are likely to become even more religious after experiencing greater financial and social status.

3) Living and working in an ethnically integrated environment causes Muslims to cling more tightly to their own identity. This appears to be true for all groups, but occurs in a greater percentage in Muslims.

4) Muslims are about twice as likely to disapprove of intermarriage with a "white" person (70%) as non-Muslim immigrants.


It would seem plausible to conclude that Muslims are not assimilating into the culture of the UK, but are creating blocs of ethnic independence within the country. The report concludes "...the specific pattern of integration we document in our sample for Muslim immigrants in the UK stands somewhat in contrast to the intellectual foundation of most immigration policy in Europe..."
