From Ace of Spades:
Obama flatters himself by conceiving of himself as an "idealist" on foreign policy. He won't indulge or even acknowledge man's base and hateful nature; he'll just talk about a foreign policy that would work if men were better things.
But they're not.
Men are largely -- and, depending on which part of the world you're talking about, oftenmostly -- prone to reversion to animal, simian-level behaviors when they act in groups.
That is to say, when they speak about foreign policy, my tribe against this other tribe. And like apes they show force, and only back down from shows of force.Obama, as I say, flatters himself. He thinks he's doing something special by ignoring reality, by adhering to a fantasy foreign policy.
It is not difficult to invent a fantasy foreign policy premised on the easiest possible preconditions -- that is, the preconditions of all men adhering to strict reason, feeling empathy for even their rivals, recoiling from violence or coercion.
In fact, you wouldn't even need a foreign policy were those preconditions in existence -- man would simply live in harmony because he would be possessed of the virtue of the angels.
How people can flatter themselves into thinking it's nobel to flee from reality I'll never understand.READ THE WHOLE THING.
