New York Times Oped: To Stop Iran’s Bomb, Bomb Iran

I honestly do not know how this could be accomplished without NUCLEAR BUNKER-BUSTERS.
In theory, comprehensive international sanctions, rigorously enforced and universally adhered to, might have broken the back of Iran’s nuclear program. But the sanctions imposed have not met those criteria.
Naturally, Tehran wants to be free of them, but the president’s own director of National Intelligence testified in 2014 that they had not stopped Iran’s progressing its nuclear program. T
here is now widespread acknowledgment that the rosy 2007 National Intelligence Estimate, which judged that Iran’s weapons program was halted in 2003, was an embarrassment, little more than wishful thinking.
The inescapable conclusion is that Iran will not negotiate away its nuclear program.
Nor will sanctions block its building a broad and deep weapons infrastructure.
The inconvenient truth is that only military action like Israel’s 1981 attack on Saddam Hussein’s Osirak reactor in Iraq or its2007 destruction of a Syrian reactor, designed and built by North Korea, can accomplish what is required. Time is terribly short, but a strike can still succeed.

  1. Yes, and that seems like progress.

HOWEVER, I have really grown to dislike people who call for action in the cause of an objective, but deny the reality of what it would actually take to accomplish that objective.

Look, I'm no military expert, but as I understand it, Iran's nuke facilities are buried deep beneath the earth under yards and yards of solid concrete.

I'm not sure that even a regular size nuclear bunker-buster could get to them.

This means we would have to be willing to cause MASSIVE DESTRUCTION AND FALLOUT.

The person who wrote this Op-ed would likely, in the aftermath, criticize the way things were done and he would likely call for war crimes trials against Israel.

    You think I'm wrong?

    I doubt you do.

  2. EMP low altitude, every few days for a week or so.

The bulk of the Fordo,Parchin Arak etc are within about 4-500 miles or so.

50k feet I think. I actually figured it out somewhere around here

Iran will be very busy attending to keeping chaos at bay, and have MANY other priorities.

Israel (or the US) kills NO ONE, and Iran can save everyone, if they try, and we can offer to 'help'
