Idol worship of terrorism in South America

As hard as it may be to believe, terrorist worship exists in Brazil, to the chilling point of erecting a statue of Yasir Arafat in a small town there. The details of this can be found on this page from Shunpiking, the Discovery Magazine:
SAO PAULO (31 December 2004) AP -- THE NEW YEAR'S EVE celebrations in the small community of Paraiba do Sul will honour a figure the town's mayor says hasn't been honoured anywhere else in the West -- the late Yasser Arafat.

Moments before the clock rings in 2005, a fireworks and light show will serve as a backdrop to the unveiling of a life-sized statue of the Palestinian leader holding the traditional symbol of peace, the olive branch.

The 5-foot, 7-inch bronze statue will be part of an open-air memorial that includes a marble map of Palestine and a replica of the Palestinian flag, also in marble, Paraiba do Sul Mayor Rogerio Onofre said.

"It is the first time a memorial in Arafat's honour has been built in the Western world," Onofre said.
Tragically so. As some know, many parts of South America have very big problems with crime, anti-Americanism, racism, drug dealing, hostility to free market trade, and kidnappings for ransom in Brazil itself if they think you're rich. And now, we know that those problems have inflated and morphed to the point of worshiping terrorists.

The worst part about some of this is that South America may be neglected on the concern list of most experts who're trying to stop these kinds of tyrannies. This shows that South America most certainly needs to rate as a major concern to anyone who wants to stop terrorism, because it not only dwells on the lower end of the American continent (the Hezbollah's been operating there for quite some time now), it's got supporters as well. A very good reason why one shouldn't let South America slip beneath the radar.

  1. Funny how you complain about a little town in Brazil that wants to put up a statue of a man that led a fight for his peoples freedom, while Israel elected Arial Sharon to the office of Prime Minister a man who is responsible for thousands of killings in the West Bank, Lebanon and Gaza. Your hipocracy amuses me.
