Obama on small-town PA: Clinging religion, guns, xenophobia
Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday,
and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
And here is Michell Obama:
Because sometimes it's easier to hold on to your own stereotypes and misconceptions. It makes you feel justified in your own ignorance
That's America! That's pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.
There's actually SOMETHING WRONG with the Obamas. They are MISSING something.
Looking good, and having a resonant voice doesn't replace it.
These are racial stereotypes of the most insulting kind.
Demeaning.
Why?
I've wondered for a while whether Michelle Obama was the modern-day equivalent of Mary Todd Lincoln: an albatross about the neck of her longsuffering husband. Given his lack of interest in bridling her, even for the sake of his campaign, I must conclude that they're quite compatible in all things...including their mental illnesses.
ReplyDeleteBirds of a feather -- albatross or whatever they are!
