The Mark of the Beast: Sign At Flemish Pub

A Flemish pub, favored by the Vlaams Belang as the site of an upcoming event, is embroiled in a controversy over the distinctly Nazi design of their sign:

The Flemish Nationalist pub De Leeuw van Vlaanderen has a sign saying "De beest" (the beast), with a very recognisable letter S. The Jewish Belgian organisation Forum der Joodse Organisaties are going to complain to the police, and in Joods Actueel - a Belgian Jewish magazine - the Antwerpen resident Nathan Ramet is quoted:

"As a kid, I had to run around in Antwerp wearing the yellow star, the symbol on the wall of the cafe is scandalous". Bart De Wever of the (democratic) nationalist party NV-A has criticised the cafe`s action as "deplorable", and "compromising to the Flemish cause".

That's right, the Vlaams Belang.

  4. One has to wonder how it is that people as sophisticated as Christine Brim and Baron Bodissey could have been fooled.

Unless, maybe I am mistaken, and what I am taking to be an SS symbol is really some ancient Teutonic sign meaning "The Audacity of Hope" or something like that.
