If Only This Man Would Listen To His Own Lyrics

Cat Stevens used to be a great singer-songwriter. His music was beautiful and his vocal style was unparalleled.

Then, he became a Muslim and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. He has since called for the death of Salman Rushdie for having the "audacity" to write the book "The Satanic Verses."

Cat Stevens should be shunned. You should never, ever, buy his music, no matter how much you may like it.

And, T-Mobile ought to be shunned for featuring Cat Stevens music in their new ad campaign. Fuck T-Mobile.

But, beyond the world of commerce and politics, Cat Stevens music is still beautiful. And, it deserves to be remembered, especially by Mr. Yusuf Islam himself.

Oh, very young one, if only you would listen to the lyrics you wrote as a young man.

Oh very young
what will you leave us this time
you're only dancing on this earty
for a short while
and though your dreams may toss
and turn you now
they will vanish away
like your daddy's best jeans
denim blue fading up to the sky
and though you want him to last
forever you know he never will
(you know he never will)
and the patches
make the goodbye harder still

oh very young
what will you leave us this time
there'll never be a better chance
to change your mind
and if you want this world
to see a better day
will you carry
the words of love with you
will you ride
the great white bird into heaven

No and Pastorius does not either.

  3. Abdoos, it's not about hating Muslims, it's about hating ISLAM - an ideology of hate & intolerance, of violence & totalitarianism - the primary victims of which are Muslims themselves.

I am Muslim.. my religion is Islam.. but I don't hate anyone from other faiths (or even if they don't have any faith at all)- they are not my enemies.. among people I despise are those Suicide Bombers and Soldiers bullying Civilians.. that would be Palestinian suicide Bombers & Israeli Army. Do you hate all Muslims?

abdooss, how can you be a follower of mohammad who was a pedophile?

  5. sting: obama was sent from god.

"I can't think of any be better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam," he added. Sting then went on to bash the President's critics as deranged, ignorant, and "medieval".

Its funny how any Muslim whether they claim to be moderate or not practicing at all always hate Israel and Israelis. If you were actually an honest person, you would have the decency to actually look up facts before you start criticizing Israel. Hatred of Jews is so ingrained upon Muslims' minds that it is almost impossible for them to move away from their blinding hatred of Jews.

  7. Cat Stevens first album is so good it is painful to listen to it.

A lesson in humans' ability to be lead to self abnegation of the very gift god granted us

  8. 40 years ago, sitting in front of the fire at the ski lodge in Vermont, with friends, singing Cat Stevens songs all evening. If we could see into the future how often would it break our hearts.

And Sting is quite possibly the most intelligent damnfool in the music industry. I swear some of these people fear that if they actually think about isssues it would ruin their "creativity". Or maybe more to the point, their careers. How many of them would have the courage to sing out against Islamist aggression instead of mouthing PC sentimentalities?

abdooss sounds like a Muslim version of Rodney King: why can't we all just get alonnngggg? That's what happens when you're high on something, your brain shuts down. With RK it was drugs, with abdooss and Muslims like him it is Islam.

Well, it is Halloween and there is going to be a huge street party in the town next to me which happens to be Salem, MA. I'll be there flashing folks with my Kurt Westergaard Mo Da Bomb t-shirt, same as last year. Wish me luck.

  9. Abdoos,
    I don't hate Muslims.

I do think that any Muslim who advocates Sharia law or violent Jihad ought to be removed from the United States.

I think Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens should never be allowed to step foot in the United States again.

If Britain had any sense, they'd kick him out of their country.

  10. Epa,
I have his records on vinyl still. I just listen to them that way.

THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVER BUY HIS MUSIC ON CD OR ITUNES.

I never want a cent of my money to go to that man.

  12. I certainly don't hate them, Abdoos. I do, however, see them as 'carriers' of a violently aggressive ideology that is fundamentally opposed to human freedom, dignity, and equality - all things that are worth fighting and killing for. And yes, dieing for too.

  14. Dear Anonymous,
It was not a Crime to marry a 9 year old girl 1400 years ago. Similar would be; it was a Crime to Kidnap an African and bring him/her to America to be a slave. Pedophile - that term did not even exist by then. Some Christian Priests and Jesuits engaged in homosexual but that doesn't mean all practice that activity.
I believe Jesus as a Prophet, not God or son of God, and I don't have any quarrel with Christians with what they want to believe in. And I don't think I should force anyone to believe in my faith.

    Dear Avenging Apostate,
I equally hate Israeli Army & Palestinian Suicide Bombers. You seemed to mislook the fact that I don't support the Palestinians who practice violence. I don't hate Jews. I think Boris Gelfand, an Israeli Chess Grandmaster is a great guy too. Why do you think all Muslims hate Jews?

  15. Abdoos,
I would put it this way. It's a fight against Jihadist terrorism.

We are not fighting terrorism in general. We are fighting violent Jihadism.

If we were fighting terrorism in general we would be fighting against eh Tamil Tigers and the IRA too.

But, that's not our concern. We're fighting those who attack us; Jihadists.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Pastorius,

    Glad we agreed on that.
The fight is against the terrorists. Not against the Religion, as implied by some.

Not all men wearing Turban are Muslims. Some Sikh men wear Turbans too.

From http://www.themediaoasis.com/hatevictims.html -"..Balbir Singh Sodhi was gunned down on Sept. 15, 2001 in Mesa, Arizona. The turban-wearing Sikh was killed outside his gas station. Sodhi's killer spent the hours before the murder in a bar, bragging of his intention to "kill the ragheads responsible for September 11." He has been convicted and sits on death row.

Waqar Hasan of Dallas, Texas was also murdered on Sept. 15, 2001. The 46-year-old Pakistani, was shot to death in a convenience store he owned. Hasan was murdered by Mark Stroman, who was convicted of also murdering Vasudev Patel days later in nearby Mesquite, Texas.

Cordell noted that Stroman admitted to authorities to blinding a third victim, a Bangladeshi, in between the murders of Hasan and Patel. After his arrest Stroman bragged, "I did what every American wanted to do after Sept. 11th but didn't have the nerve."

Cordell says the Sodhi, Hasan and Patel cases are indisputable examples of having links to Sept. 11 related hate backlash. Yet, none of the three families have received any compensation from any of the September 11th funds..."

My concern is on to prevent any provoking of hate backlash or hate attack.

  17. I understand that concern.

Now, let me point something out to you. CAIR, the ISNA, and the Muslim American Society are the largest Muslims organizations in our country. They represent the "voice" of Muslim America.

Problem is, all three either represent the Muslim Brotherhood, or act as a voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

None are truly "moderate". They do not represent the voice of Moderate Muslim America.

Moderate Muslims have not incarnated themselves, they have not worked to ensure their voices are represented. There is no organized moderate Muslim voice.

In fact, there are no moderate Muslim political organizations, media outlets, academic institutions, or governments, of any appreciable size, anywhere in the world.

That does not mean there are not Moderate Muslims. But, it means the average American can not hear your voice.

There's a guy who posts here sometimes from an organization called Muslims Against Sharia. He seems like a great guy. But, I don't think his organization has more than a 100 members, and certainly they do not have a budget like that of CAIR or the ISNA, and there voice is never given representation in the media.

    Sad state of affairs.

By the way, you probably understand that the average American has already seen through the likes of CAIR. If not, then I hope you come to understand it.
