BREAKING: Another Ebola case in Texas?

Frisco, Texas, is an affluent suburb of Dallas. I think.

There was a massive local response.

From CBS DFW:
According to a statement from the City of Frisco, the patient claims to have had contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, referred to as Dallas ‘patient zero.’

The Frisco patient has been identified as a Dallas County deputy, who was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient.

The call came in shortly after noon from Care Now, 301 W. Main Street, where the patient was “exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola.”

[...]

First responders are also examining clinical staff and other patients at the Care Now facility. It is unknown how many other people may have been exposed to the patient.
More at the above link.

UPDATE: Sources are saying that this is the deputy who delivered the quarantine order.

  1. Shit!

I was 'hoping' the Duncan case would drift off with the Jesse Jackson circus and fade into oblivion.

Over at FreeRepublic I am discussing the timing of the stock report released at 8:20 this morning ...before the press announced Duncan's demise.

Consider also there was an unconfirmed report of Duncan's death reported by an Israeli source (searching comments here at IBA for link which appears to have been edited - but screen cap found here) on October 6th.
There is some speculation that the report was hushed up to give investors time to unload.

Jessie Jackson and Sheila Jackson Leigh are right on top of the RACIST bandwagon claiming Duncan wasn't receiving the best treatment.

The fact that Duncan did not reveal his exposure to Ebola until he was very ill probably delayed his treatment. Most of these antivirals are very time sensitive. This particular one may work IF given between Days 1 and X where X is probably 5 or less. If given after, no dice.

Based on the Liberian doctors use of Lamivudine, they gave Duncan the antiviral several days too late.

Impossible to conclude it wouldn’t have made a difference had they started it to begin with.

The French treated a nurse there with a very similar drug:

  2. From this source:

Monning was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient. Monnig did enter the apartment where Duncan stayed after Duncan had been admitted to the hospital.

“He was in the apartment for 30 minutes, which we were told is no chance to contact the virus,” said Logan.
