The Hill:

FBI probing potential ISIS-inspired threat in US: report

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly investigating a potential terrorist threat within the United States, possibly inspired by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Law enforcement officials told CNN on Saturday the probe started with intercepted communication and other intelligence information lending to the belief of a possible plot.
One official said the probe focused on areas of California where security has been raised, though no arrests have been made and the seriousness of the threat is unclear, according to CNN.

ISIS has called on sympathizers around the world to launch attacks against the U.S., though none have done so successfully. Still, the reported probe shows officials are taking a potential domestic threat seriously.

FBI Director James Comey has said investigations of suspected ISIS supporters are underway in all 50 states.

Officials said this threat wasn't necessarily related to aviation, CNN reported, despite the Transportation Security Administration having alerted local law enforcement for airports' security.

TSA sent out a general classified alert Friday afternoon that only mentioned the time of an attack but nothing about location or the type of potential attack, according to The Intercept. Airports in Los Angeles and Southern California have stepped up their security, per NBC News.
