Coronavirus-Infected People Fleeing Mexico Cross Border Into California, and Are Then Transported BY GOVERNMENT WORKERS Over 100 Miles Into Riverside County for Treatment

... because Mexico can't provide adequate healthcare to it's own people.

Of course. I should have seen this coming.

Yikes, I just got through reading an excellent dystopian fantasy novel by a friend -- "Lady Liberty: Field of Stars" by Rackham (dead cheap Kindle at Amazon) -- which includes a deadly flu spread by Mexicans coming in through a totally open border. Of course the WuFlu isn't at the wipe-out-half-the-population level, but the similarities in how it's spread -- in the novel it may or may not have been deliberate -- are chilling.
