Don't worry everything will be all right?

Bullet makers can't keep up with demand

Bullet-makers are working around the clock, seven days a week, and still can't keep up with the nation's demand for ammunition.

Shooting ranges, gun dealers and bullet manufacturers say they have never seen such shortages. Bullets, especially for handguns, have been scarce for months because gun enthusiasts are stocking up on ammo, in part because they fear President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress will pass antigun legislation -- even though nothing specific has been proposed and the president last month signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.

Gun sales spiked when it became clear Obama would be elected a year ago and purchases continued to rise in his first few months of office. The FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System reported that 6.1 million background checks for gun sales were issued from January to May, an increase of 25.6 percent from the same period the year before."We are working overtime and still can't keep up with the demand," said Al Russo, spokesman for North Carolina-based Remington Arms Company, which makes bullets for rifles, handguns and shotguns. "We've had to add a fourth shift and go 24-7. It's a phenomenon that I have not seen before in my 30 years in the business."

Sales of guns may be related to fears of Obama increasing regulations, or hindering the 2nd amendment, but sales of bullets?

One wonders what sales of bullet making equipment is?

We all making our own loads out here, are we, as well?

Does the body think something wicked this way comes?

Oh, this must be some kind of racism

  1. I was talking to a fellow 2 guns shows ago. Part -- only part -- of the ammunition problem is the increase in the amount used by the military during the current unpleasantnesses. Handgunner magazine (I think) said pretty much the same thing, and that the makers can't keep up and in some cases have asked the public to slow down and not hoard.

Well, ok, maybe I buy some of that. But I'm still hoarding.

I read this artice this morning. They state Obama has made no gun grab moves (paraphrasing) as of yet. I think as far as grabs go that would require congressional input we may -- may -- be okay until after next year's elections. This is a volatile issue that, among real people, transcends party lines. And an otherwise democratic voting Union member may well go Republican if he sniffs his congress critter about to snatch his beloved .308 Winchester, or favorite .30-30 deer gun.

On top of it you have others trying to whoop up the fenzy. At my gun clib a perfectly knowledgeable lawyer is bringing up things dead or seriously wounded in committee as if they were going to be passed tomorrow. The NRA often does the same thing.

But I'm good with that, though I won't (knowingly) spread distortions myself if it gets others who are sleepwalking to sit up and listen, read something say something, do something.

BECAUSE IT IS THIS ONE RIGHT THAT VOUCHSAFES ALL THE OTHERS.

No, I think you have it right. The Body American senses deep down in the subconscious -- deep in our American DNA -- something is wrong, something is afoot. And they are getting prepared for it although they don't realize it.

They are preparing to counter the threat.

  2. I think there are very serious, law abiding, god fearing, hard working Americans who sense a shadow on the land - and it has nothing to do with race, gender, national origin or religious preference.

    Look at the blogs.

Look at the absolute control Dear Leader exercises over most of the media.

    Listen to Dear Leader's speeches.

    Who wouldn't buy ammo?

(caveat: For Janet Napolatano, I buy ammunition for game hunting and such)

  4. IMHO, the reason for all this is the reason the 2nd amendment exists.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
