Camp Pendleton Story No Longer Uncorroborated ...

However, that does not mean my speculation about the meaning of the story (which can be found here and here) is true.

Note, the Orange County Register Newspaper announced these "High Explosive Munitions" back on the 25th of July.

As I have noted previously, I heard F-16's going overhead when I was at my friends home in Coto de Caza. Now, I could be wrong about that. I did not see them. But, what I heard sounded like the same jets they send out over Disneyland, or out to LAX or the OC Airport when there is possible trouble.

One time, shortly after 9/11, when I was working in a high-rise building in Burbank, a F-16 (on a practice run which involved an event at the Rose Bowl) buzzed the building I was in, probably no more than 200 feet above us. Perhaps ever lower. I saw the thing right out my window.

Man, those things haul ass.

The building shook like you wouldn't believe. Of course, being that it was right after 9/11, and the mission had not been announced beforehand, this scared the hell out of us.

Anyone, point is, I have seen F-16's up close and personal on several occasions. I know what they sound like.

But, I could be wrong. Remember, I'm just a goofball. I'm no expert.

By the way, I don't believe the part about the Marines only using 1759 lbs. of explosives per evening.

According to the female friend I talked to, the "bombing goes on all night long", and she is hearing bigger explosions "than I have ever heard in the 12 years I have lived here."

  2. The whole Camp Pendleton Corridor on the I-5 (between Oceanside and San Clemente) is a continual practice war-zone, with tanks rolling every morning in the hills. It only makes sense since the Marines are now the main attack contingency in Afghanistan and the coastal hills near Camp Horno are relatively similar to the mountains of Afghanistan.

  3. Oh, you think this is about Afghanistan.

I'm not so sure about that.

This is the most extensive bombing she has ever heard. She explicitly said that even in the leadups to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, she did not hearing bombing anything like this.

Did you read that part of the story?

And, what do you think of the F-16's part?

In the other threads, people who have more military knowledge than I scoffed at the idea of such bombing tests being carried out at Pendleton, since F-16's are Air Force, and large bombing tests are done in Nevada.

Hey, like I said, I could be wrong.

    I'm a goofball.

  4. Over the weekend, I learned that a lot of air drills of some sort are going on in the area of Virginia Beach, which is very close to Norfolk.

My source was someone who went for a week at the beach and couldn't believe her eyes and ears.

  5. Okay, I'll ask this....Is BHO getting ready for some kind of September surprise? Some kind of distraction and unifying force.

  6. AOW,
You should ask your friend the same questions I asked mine. Were the bombs louder than anything she had ever heard before?

My friend said they were indeed. And, as she pointed out, she had lived there for twelve years.

That means THESE EXERCISES ARE UNPRECEDENTED IN THE POST-9/11 ERA.

George Will to Call for US Pullout of Ground Forces in Afghanistan
    —Ace

    Quote: Joining 60% of Democrats.

[F]orces should be substantially reduced to serve a comprehensively revised policy: America should do only what can be done from offshore, using intelligence, drones, cruise missiles, airstrikes and small, potent special forces units, concentrating on the porous 1,500-mile border with Pakistan, a nation that actually matters,” Will writes in the column, scheduled for publication later this week.
    ...

In the column, Will warns that any nation-building strategy could be impossible to execute given the Taliban’s ability to seemingly disappear into the rugged mountain terrain and the lack of economic development in the war-plagued nation."
