Profoundly Disturbing -- Updated at Bottom

The Audacity of Hype

Wasting no time. On sale at Amazon now.

I give you the link (click the epic) not as advertisement but to show you this is no joke.

Particularly disturbing, when you roll over other images beneath the main, Chairman Mao's Little Red Book comes up.

(late info from TransylvaniaPhoenix: Crossposted at LGF and JawaReport. The little red book pic was my idea, Also the review that reads "The Government should make this book mandatory reading in schools" is mine. Feel free to leave your own tongue in cheek comments at Amazon.com)

We are in deep deep trouble.

UPDATE: Here's the text from The History Comapny's website. They are only selling this little marvel in packs of 10 so you can more easily spread the word.

Printed in a size that easily fits into pocket or purse, this book is an anthology of quotations borrowed from Barack Obama's speeches and writings. POCKET OBAMA serves as a reminder of the amazing power of oratory and the remarkable ability of this man to move people with his words. His superb and captivating oratory style has earned comparisons to John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, and this historic collection presents words that catapulted his remarkable rise to the American Presidency. It is an unofficial requirement for every citizen to own, to read, and to carry this book at all times.

The little blue book includes themes of democracy, politics, war, terrorism, race, community, jurisprudence, faith, personal responsibility, national identity, and above all, his hoped-for vision of a new America. POCKET OBAMA is a portable, everyday primer for readers who want to examine the substance of his thought and reflect on the next great chapter in the American story.

WTF?

Indeed. We're in deep trouble when they don't even pretend anymore.

Please tell me at least that the top three 5 star reviews are sarcasm! The distributor, History Company, has an ad for it including the following: "It is an unofficial requiement for every citizen to own, to read, and to carry this book at all times."

I believe history company is only selling them in lots of 10 as well, so you can give them to your friends (no joke).

Let the re-education begin. . .

I just stopped over at History Company. They are selling it only in packs of 10.

There is a large multi-level table display of books by/about Obama right up at the front of the Borders where I work. I'm now part-time and on Social Security. The day I walk in the door and see that little blue book is the day I keep going straight to the back office and give notice. Not because they will be selling it, but because I have much more important things to do and time will be short.

Wow, you really feel that strongly about it, RRA?

I wasn't sure if the little red book pic was a jab by someone or not. Very good. very appropriate.

Not sure about something though...is Obama's Little Blue Book divided in chapters or surahs?

Pastorius said...

So, is the Little Blue Book of Obama a real book, or is it just a hoax?

Transsylvania Phoenix said...

Real. Unfortunately.

Little Blue Book is real. Or seems so. Go to either The History Company or Amazon and search Pocket Obama & it comes up.

The Little Red Book in the Amazon add was Trans.Phoenx idea. You can add your own customer images & he did so ;>)

Brings a whole new meaning to red and blue states. . .

It's not as drastic as it sounds. The job is physically difficult for a 65-year-old with arthritis and stressful to have to watch what I say all the time. Now that I'm "retired" there's no compelling reason to spend more time there than necessary. My real work is selling on eBay and elsewhere. It is also crucial for keeping my spirits up.

Seriously, though, between the news out of the Netherlands and the Little Blue Book I'm having another of my We're F****d moments and with that comes the realization that ringing up books all day even only 3 days a week is a waste of time, to say nothing of money given what they pay us.

Nice "review" and glad to add your blog to my list. Are any of those 5-star reviews for real? I sure hope not, and I'm impressed by the excellent level of sarcasm displayed by all.

On second look, I'm a bit suspicious of a couple of those 5-star reviewers, and the 4-star is definitely a Pod Person.

Transylvania Dude,
Great job with the satirical review, etc.

Very funny.

Thanks. I'm a fan of your blog now too.

:)

Having checked "other comments" by those who gave it 5 stars, it's clear that most of them were being sarcastic. I think I only read one 5 star review that I fear was for real.

Even my friend who voted for him thoughr this was scary.

The University of Washington has made Obama's book "Dreams from my father" its new Common Book which all incoming freshmen will have to buy and read in the fall of 2009.

Ayers going to get some under-the-Oval-Office-desk royalties for that one, is he? Apparently he's the one who actually wrote it.
