Did you catch the mistake? Read on.
As Gateway Pundit points out, BHO confused the United States Constitution with the Declaration of Independence:
[BHO] cited the US Constitution...during his State of the Union Address. Unfortunately, the quote he cited was from the Declaration of Independence… not the Constitution.BHO stated in the SOTU Address:
We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we are all created equal....Compare to these words in the Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...None of those who contributed to or proofread the speech caught the mistake. All those lawyers at the White House, including BHO who is himself a lawyer graduated from Harvard, missed the error. Surreal!
Gateway Pundit also reminds us:
And this is the same guy who lectured the Supreme Court moments later in the same speech. How great are the irony and the incompetence of the BHO administration!

There's been a lot of buzz on the conservo-blogs about how Obama mixed up the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, but that is not a valid criticism.
Obama: We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we're all created equal; that no matter who you are or what you look like, if you abide by the law you should be protected by it; if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else.
By truncating the sentence, the context is removed. Obama is referring to the Fourteenth Amendment.
The fourteenth amendment - the anchor baby amendment, swell.
The fact that illegals give birth here escapes your context?
BHO's quote: "if you abide by the law you should be protected by it;"
Illegal aliens broke THE LAW - the corollary to BHO's statement reflects Illegals are subject to the consequences of breaking those very same LAWS.
Anonymous: The fourteenth amendment - the anchor baby amendment, swell.
You are kidding, right? The Fourteenth Amendment was passed in the wake of a bloody Civil War and was the most significant change to the U.S. system of government since the Bill of Rights. It extends the protections of the Bill of Rights to the States. It took a century before the Fourteenth Amendment was enforced by congressional action, and only after the sacrifices of the Civil Rights Movement.
People should be punished for breaking the law, though punishment should be proportional to the crime.
Text of the 14th Amendment.
Where does it say that all men are created equal?
BHO should have mentioned the 14th Amendment if his intent was to use it as a foundation for his statement.
if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else...if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else
Citizenship or no citizenship - even with regard to illegal invaders.
I'm not sure that I'd qualify the Constitution as a values document; the Declaration, I would qualify as such.
It seems to me that BHO was playing the race card with his statement. But maybe not; I'd have to check the bigger context of that portion of the speech.
Addendum: As far as I can tell, BHO doesn't have enough respect for the Constitution. Just sayin'
Zachriel, no I wasn't kidding. The context of this conversation relates to Obama's use of the phrase.
Our Nations alleged "Constitutional-resident-scholar, aka POTUS, finds our Constitution and it's related historic documentation useful only when it demonstrates potential to undermine the USA.
FWIW, the loophole of the 14th should have been closed 40 years ago when the problem started.
You are freaking ridiculous. BHO doesn't respect the Constitution? Huh? Why would you say that? Examples?
I am tired of people taking partial quotes and using them to rpove their own point. Read the entire quote, learn your government documents and stop trying to muckrake.
