E Pluribus ….. Exitium?

The country is in dire risk of being destroyed from within and vulnerable from without from enemies who are licking their chops over our disunity.

And that’s it.

Disunity. Un-commonality

We have little in common anymore and if that’s not fixed, what our forefathers called the ‘Great Experiment’ will be no more.

Decades ago, our society had many common experiences. We all talked about what Archie Bunker said last night or what Carol Burnett or Laugh-In did. But that is no more. What we have now is hundreds of cable channels, Internet blogs and news sites that reinforce our own tribal beliefs and not the common ones of a nation.

For we are no longer a national melting pot – but a stew of tribes – all at war with each other.

The only common experiences we have that brings together people of all races, creeds, income and political beliefs are sports and the military.

Like sports the military, throws all of us into melting part working for a team. The military takes people from all over the social spectrum and forces them to work together because, in most cases, their lives depend upon it. And once a young person – male or female – enters the military it gives them the all-important ‘Rites of Passage’ from immature child to responsible adult that is woefully lacking in our society today.

And once they leave the military it would be hard pressed to see people as groups and paint them with a broad brush after they worked with that Jew, or partied with that Asian, or fought side by side with that Black. They will stop first before acting tribal and think before they see that individual in front of them as someone different and not worthy of their respect.

That is why it is crucial now for the survival of our country to create a civilian work corps and make it MANDATORY that every young person after the age of 21 serve either in the military or a civilian work corps. To have them experience not only something in common working on a task but also – in some – cases work at jobs with others where their lives depend on them.

This is not new. Europe has been doing this for decades but without the Rites of Passage.

This is no longer just an interesting idea for this nation --- but critical for its survival and the ONLY way to create that common experience and bring the tribes to together and work as a nation again.

This should be the NUMBER ONE PRIORITY of the politicians.

Not health care. Not tax reform or all the other issues facing us today.  For if we can’t find a mechanism to bring us together first, then how are we to solve these problems?

So, who will be the first politico to raise this national need? Who will sponsor such a bill?

Good question.

Unfortunately what we have now are Americorps and the so-called Peace Corps. Both voluntary and both committed to graduating far out left-wing community organizers and agitators.

WC,
Points well taken!

Are we still a nation? One of my blog team members recently asked that question -- a list of other questions, all of which are critically important.

You are barking at the moon. There has NEVER been a country composed of a multiplicity of races that has EVER worked. The only places where it has only KINDA/SORTA worked is in post-1945 Western countries... and only with the proviso that the white productive race
is taxed exorbitantly and to provide welfare/social services to minorities... along with the well-compensated public sector unionizied gov't job for which minorities are given
MASSIVE preference. And when the money runs out? Well, welcome to Brazil. Enjoy your stay.
