Lindsay Lohan was photographed carrying a copy of the Koran after her first day of community service in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday. T 

he actress - who is of Irish and Italian heritage and was raised as a Catholic - held a hard copy of the Muslim holy book in her arm as she finished a day of office work at a children's center. She reportedly arrived two hours late. 

It comes as the 28-year-old embarks on an 'emotional detox', giving up alcohol and dating. The Koran prescribes a lifestyle free of alcohol for Muslims - though readers of the book do not necessarily subscribe to the religion. 

It is not the first time Lindsay has shown an interest in other religions. During the height of her fame as a teen star, she wore a Kabbalah red string bracelet, which wards off misfortune brought about by the 'evil eye'. 

She was also rumored to be attending Kabbalah classes, and in 2012 she reportedly joined Courtney Love's Buddhist chanting group. Last year Lindsay described herself as a 'very spiritual person' in a docu-series with Oprah Winfrey. 

'I'm a very spiritual person and I've become more spiritual as time has gone on,' she told the talk show host. 'I'm really in touch, whether it's prayer or meditation... there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I've been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people.'

Two men arrested for WATCHING a koran burning video in a pub and sharing it on Facebook

Northumbria Police in Gateshead last week arrested two men after they watched and shared a video on Facebook of a man burning the Koran in the US during the recent 9/11 commemoration at Ground Zero in New York, human rights organisation Civil Liberty has reported. 

“The men were drinking in the Bugle pub, Leam Lane, Gateshead, when they were arrested after watching and sharing the videos,” said founder and director of Civil Liberty, Kevin Scott. 

Writing on his organisation’s website, Mr Scott said around 30 people staged a protest outside Gateshead police station on Wednesday evening, the 15th of September, following the arrests. 

“The group stood outside the doors to the police station with an England flag for about three hours watched by a contingent of uniformed officers. The protesters had gathered at around 8pm after the two men were arrested earlier in the day on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.” 

The protest continued until around 11pm when the two arrested men were bailed pending further enquiries, Mr Scott said. 

“In a further development, the man who actually burned the Koran in the video on 9/11 in New York has been sacked from his job. 

“Derek Fenton, 39, of Bloomingdale, New Jersey, had worked for NJ Transit for 11 years as a conductor and train co-ordinator. 

“Youtube have now removed all footage of Derek Fenton burning the Koran. Of course, if he had burnt the Stars and Stripes (or any other flag or religious book) the video would still be available.” Mr Scott wrote.

One of the brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston bombings was in possession of right-wing American literature in the run-up to the attack, BBC Panorama has learnt. 

Tamerlan Tsarnaev subscribed to publications espousing white supremacy and government conspiracy theories. He also had reading material on mass killings. 

Until now the Tsarnaev brothers were widely perceived as just self-styled radical jihadists. Panorama has spent months speaking exclusively with friends of the bombers to try to understand the roots of their radicalisation. 

The programme discovered that Tamerlan Tsarnaev possessed articles which argued that both (1) 9/11 and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing were government conspiracies. 

Another in his possession was about (2) "the rape of our gun rights". 

(3) Reading material he had about white supremacy commented that "Hitler had a point".

Alright, let's break this down:

1) Muslims commonly believe 9/11 was a conspiracy, often blaming it on the Jews, and claiming Jewish employees of the World Trade Center all stayed home that day.

2) No one, and I mean, NO ONE owns more weapons than radical Musims.

3) Muslims across the Islamic world LOVE Hitler, even going so far as to have made Mein Kampf a bestseller.

Somehow, the BBC does not know this?

I call BULLSHIT.

The BBC does know this. They know all three of those facts, but they are ignoring the facts to instead create the story according to their own bias.

And, in this case, what they are trying to do is say Right Wingers are Murderers.

That is a BLOOD LIBEL.

Islamic fundamentalists are ready to settle scores

Is a new and shocking wave of anti-Semitism engulfing the Middle East and the developing world? Consider the following:

More than half the Jews in Iraq have been driven out of the country; those that remain are forced to pay a fine or leave their homes. Some are forced to marry Muslims.

In Syria, towns and villages where Jews have lived for centuries are now almost entirely Muslim; these communities have fled to safer parts of the country, where they hope to escape an anti-Semitic massacre.

In Egypt, the new regime is surreptitiously encouraging attacks on synagogues; the Jews, despised for their supposed wealth, fear that the “Arab spring” is about to release centuries of pent-up anti-Semitic hatred.

In Nigeria, Jews have been attacked and killed while studying scripture. In Bangladesh, Jewish children are being forced into madrassas. In Pakistan, the body of an 11-year-old Jewish boy was discovered this week; he’d been tortured to death and his lips sliced off.

You won’t have heard about this atrocious persecution. That’s because – forgive me – I’ve played one of the oldest tricks in the journalist’s book. For Jews, read Christians. For anti-Semitic, read anti-Christian. For synagogues read churches.

I hope Jewish readers won’t take offence: I’m not denying that actual anti-Semitism is spreading like a virus throughout Arab societies. It’s just that, if these attacks against Christians were being directed against Jews, the precedent of the Holocaust would shock the world into action.

This new persecution is the result of the simultaneous revival of militant Islam in many countries. We can say that with confidence. What we can’t say, however, is that there is a co-ordinated Islamic plot to exterminate Christianity as a stepping stone to a universal caliphate.

Conspiracy theorists may derive emotional satisfaction from this idea, but it doesn’t correspond to the messy politics of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Also, it lets the “Christian” West off the hook.

We have to confront the awkward fact that, for decades, some of the world’s most despicable dictators have protected indigenous Christians from Islamic mobs. When the West withdraws its support from these rulers, Christian minorities are exposed as never before.

The removal of Saddam has eviscerated Iraqi Christian churches so ancient that they still worship in Aramaic, the language of Jesus. The fall of Mubarak means that it’s open season on Copts. Those who can afford to do so may follow the example of Palestinian and Lebanese Christians and emigrate. A key statistic: 100 years ago, the Levant was 20 per cent Christian; now the figure is 5 per cent.

The British government, despite prodding by the heroic Lord Alton, is doing a good imitation of not giving a stuff about any of this. Maybe it’s guilt: Anglo-American policies helped liberate Islamism.

As for Western Christianity, some evangelical and Catholic campaigners are drawing attention to the persecution – but they’re undermined by colleagues. For many evangelicals, Iraqi or Syrian worshippers are not “real” Christians because they venerate icons. Lefty Catholics are too obsessed with climate change and benefit cuts to spare a thought for their martyred co-religionists.

Keep an eye on Syria after Assad goes. First they’ll come for the Alawites, then the Christians. There’s a real chance that all traces of Christianity will disappear from the very place where St Paul was knocked off his horse and blinded by a vision of the risen Christ. What a horrible piece of symmetry.

The Rev Dr Peter Mullen, a trenchantly conservative Anglican priest, announced this week that he was planning a funeral service for the English language. He realised it had died, he said, when Government ministers announced that they would “revisit their approach” to Syria.

That’s vile syntax, I agree. But even worse, surely, are the sick-making catchphrases parroted by our service industries. “Could you just fill in this form for me?” says every receptionist in the land. “Pop in your pin number for me,” chirps the shop assistant. There are times, you know, when I’m glad that I don’t have a constitutional right to bear arms.

Grenfell could spin a yarn

News that women are better than men at maintaining friendships will come as no surprise to fans of Joyce & Ginnie, the letters of Joyce Grenfell and Virginia Graham, edited by Janie Hampton.

The two ladies, both staunch Christian Scientists, were friends from 1917 until Joyce’s death in 1979, weeks before the New Year Honours in which she was to be made a dame. My goodness, she had a sharp eye, both for celebrity foibles and for everyday folk: at the Lowestoft show she is thrilled to spot “Miss Irwin, who plays the organ and spins her own wool from bits she collects off barbed wire”. Joyce also refers to drinking a “cupper” (sic) and makes jocular use of the word “innit”, though somehow I doubt that the teenagers on the top of my local bus picked it up from her.

Doublespeak from the Beeb

The BBC is refusing to put up a statue to George Orwell because he was “too Left-wing”, we discovered this week. Honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better demonstration of the corporation’s political naivety. Yes, Orwell was certainly on the Left – but he was the finest English essayist of the 20th century. Moreover, he had an unforgiving eye for the self-loathing whingers whom he encountered, among other places, at Broadcasting House.

If the BBC is worried about journalists who are too Left-wing, may I direct its attention, yet again, to Newsnight’s “impartial” economics editor, Paul Mason? He has been up to his old tricks, moaning that falling unemployment represents “recovery-less jobs” that are “great for those that got them”.

I don’t know whether George Orwell would have agreed with Mason’s old-fashioned socialist views – but he might have had something to say about a BBC reporter using the licence fee to propagate them.

Beware the sandal-clad bin-sniffers

Liberal Democrats are doing so badly in the polls that it’s possible the party may effectively cease to exist after the next election. That’s a delicious prospect, on the face of it. Imagine the blissful relief of never again having to listen to Simon Hughes gargling platitudes on the Today programme. But, on second thoughts, perhaps it’s not such a good idea. What will the nosey ninnies who currently belong to the party do with themselves? What if they turn feral? Do we really want posses of sandal-wearing vigilantes roaming our streets, fingers a-wag, sniffing round people’s bins to make sure that they’ve put the right category of rubbish in the appropriately coloured sack?

The Quran's Last Word on Non-Muslims

AS YOU probably know, some verses of the Quran have been abrogated. The abrogation principle basically says that when something from a later chapter (known as a sura) conflicts with something from an earlier chapter, the later one is the better one.

Have you ever wondered which is the last chapter? And what does it say? Since abrogation uses chronological order, the last chapter would probably not contain any abrogated verses (unless an earlier verse within the last chapter conflicted with a later one in the same chapter). Otherwise, if the chapter contained any information about non-Muslims, it would be the "last word" on the subject.

If you look at the Chronological Order of the Qur'an, you can see the last chapter is called Nasr. Every chapter has a name. In the traditional order, Nasr is the 110th chapter. But it was really the 114th; the last one "revealed" to Mohammad. He died 80 days later.

But the last chapter doesn't say much. It's just three verses basically saying "When Allah has achieved victory and conquered lots of people and when they are becoming Muslims in great numbers, praise Allah and ask for forgiveness." That's about it.

But if you look up the second to last chapter, called Taubah (which means "Ultimatum"), you will find it says a great deal about non-Muslims. In the traditional chapter order, this is chapter 9. Here are a few choice verses:

9:5 Slay the idolaters wherever you find them.

9:6 Those who submit and convert to Islam will be treated well. (Those who don't submit will be killed. See previous verse.)

9:7-9 Don't make treaties with non-Muslims. They are all evildoers and should not be trusted.

9:11 Treat converts to Islam well, but kill those who refuse to convert (see 9:5).

9:12-14 Fight the disbelievers! Allah is on your side; he will give you victory.

9:23 Don't make friends with your disbelieving family members. Those who do so are wrong-doers.

9:29 Fight against Christians and Jews "until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low."

9:33 The "Religion of Truth" (Islam) must prevail, by force if necessary, over all other religions.

9:41 Fight for Allah with your wealth and whatever weapons are available to you.

9:42 Those who refuse to fight for Allah (claiming they are unable) are liars who have destroyed their souls.

9:73 Fight the disbelievers and hypocrites. Be harsh with them. They are all going to hell anyway.

9:81-83 Those who refuse to give their wealth and lives to Allah will face the fire of hell.

9:85 Those who refuse to fight for Allah will be treated (along with their children) as unbelievers.

9:111 Believers must fight for Allah. They must kill and be killed. Allah will reward them for it.

9:123 Fight disbelievers who are near you, and let them see the harshness in you.

This is Allah's "last word" on tolerance and peace toward non-Muslims. If nothing else up to this point had abrogated the tolerant verses, the above verses completely wipe out every last positive verse in the Quran for non-Muslims.

The translations above are based on the Skeptics Annotated Quran. You can check the verses above (by using the verse number) to double-check their meaning in any Quran. You will find these are accurate summaries of the verses. Lots of web sites have the entire Quran available to read online. Here are a few. Just look up Sura 9 and scroll down to the verse number you're looking for.

In an article entitled, Peace or Jihad? Abrogation in Islam, David Bukay writes:

Chapter 9 of the Quran, in English called "Ultimatum," is the most important concerning the issues of abrogation and jihad against unbelievers. It is the only chapter that does not begin "in the name of God, most benevolent, ever-merciful." Commentators agree that Muhammad received this revelation in 631, the year before his death, when he had returned to Mecca and was at his strongest. Muhammad bin Ismail al-Bukhari, compiler of one of the most authoritative collections of the hadith, said that "Ultimatum" was the last chapter revealed to Muhammad although others suggest it might have been penultimate. Regardless, coming at or near the very end of Muhammad's life, "Ultimatum" trumps earlier revelations.

Because this chapter contains violent passages, it abrogates previous peaceful content. Muhsin Khan, the translator of Sahih al-Bukhari, says God revealed "Ultimatum" in order to discard restraint and to command Muslims to fight against all the pagans as well as against the People of the Book if they do not embrace Islam or until they pay religious taxes. So, at first aggressive fighting was forbidden; it later became permissible (2:190) and subsequently obligatory (9:5). This "verse of the sword" abrogated, canceled, and replaced 124 verses that called for tolerance, compassion, and peace.

The Egyptian theologian Abu Suyuti said that everything in the Quran about forgiveness and peace is abrogated by verse 9:5, which orders Muslims to fight the unbelievers and to establish God's kingdom on earth.

Abrogation had a significant impact on the Quran, and is one of the primary reasons the traditional order of the Quran (with chapters arranged from the longest to the shortest chapter) so effectively prevents anyone who doesn't know about abrogation from understanding what it really says. Only 43 chapters are not affected by abrogation. This means most of the chapters of the Quran cannot be taken at face value.

But with the tools like the Chronological Order and CSPI's lineup of educational materials and knowledge about abrogation, the Quran can be understood by everybody.

As soon as you read the Quran, you realize immediately that other non-Muslims need to be alerted to this political agenda because non-Muslims are the target for the political program at the core of Islamic doctrine. You will (and should) start encouraging others to read the Quran. You will realize that non-Muslims' awareness of this political and totalitarian manifesto will be the key to preserving our future freedom.

HAVE THE KORAN, HADITH, AND SIRA BEEN CORRUPTED BY JEWS?

Muslims say there are errors in the Bible, and that these errors are the result of the Bible having been "corrupted by Jews".

These errors are called Tahrif, and they include:

1) God ordering Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac (Muslims say it was not Isaac, but Ishmael whom God ordered Abraham to sacrifice), after which God told Abraham, " “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” with Genesis 22:8 declaring, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering"

2) Regarding the identity of Jesus, the Qur'an says, "They indeed disbelieve who say: ‘Surely, Allah - He is the Messiah.'" (Surah 5:17, see also 5:72), whereas, obviously Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah, the only begotten Son of God, and the Word become flesh 

3) Regarding the crucifixion of Jesus, the Qur'an says, "They killed him (Jesus) not, nor did they cause his death on the cross, but he was made to appear to them as such." (Surah 4:157), whereas clearly, in the Bible, Jesus was crucified and died for the sins of the world. For Christians, this sacrifice is the central event in the history of the world, and is the Cornerstone of the Biblical story.

In all three of the above incidents, Muslims directly contradict the central story of the Bible, God's willingness to provide the needed sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.

To believing Christians, this is tantamount to blasphemy. But, to non-believers, these changes would not be offensive, but would be merely tweaks in the storyline.

But, the Islamic Holy Scriptures themselves contain some very specific claims about the life of Mohammed which, if wrong, are not mere "tweaks" in the storyline, but are, most of them, disgusting abominations, whether true or not:

For instance,

1) Mohammed allowed a man to kiss him "from his bellybutton to his armpits"

2) Mohammed had gay sex with a man (not that there's anything wrong with that)   ---  

Sunan Bayhaqi and Al Halabi

According to this hadith, a  (gay) man named Zahir, who used to say, “The prophet loves me,” said that one day Muhammad crept unawares behind him and put him in a bear-hug. Zahir, alarmed, yelled, “Get off me!” After turning his head and discovering that it was Muhammad, he stopped struggling and proceeded to “push his back into the prophet’s chest.”

Sunan Bayhaqi, which traces to Sunan Abu Dawud (one of the six canonical hadith collections), has Muhammad lifting up his shirt for a man, who proceeded to kiss his entire torso, “from his bellybutton to his armpits.”

Tafsir of al-Qurtubi—an authoritative exegesis in Islam. Aisha said that, one day, while Muhammad was lying naked in bed, Zaid came knocking; Muhammad, without getting dressed, opened the door and “hugged and kissed him”.

3) Mohammed used to suck on the tongues of young boys and girls    -  "Musnad Ahmad," Hadith number: 16245, Volume Title:
"The Sayings of the Syrians," Chapter Title: "Hadith of Mu?awiya Ibn Abu Sufyan,"
Narrated by Hisham Ibn Kasim, narrated by Huraiz, narrated by Abdul Rahman Ibn Abu Awf Al Jarashy,
and narrated by Muawiya who said,
"I saw the prophet (pbuh) sucking on the tongue or the lips of Al-Hassan son of Ali ,
may the prayers of Allah be upon him . For no tongue or lips that the prophet sucked on will be tormented (by hell fire).

4) Mohammed did not die until he had sex with every woman he ever desired

5) Mohammed sexually "admired" 2-3 year old girl, declaring that the would one day marry her  ---   Musnad of Ahmad bin Hanbal, which records Muhammad seeing a 2-3 year old girl in her mother’s arms. Muhammad was so “impressed” by her that he said, “By Allah, if this girl reaches marrying age and I am still alive, I will surely marry her.”

6) Mohammed liked to wear women's clothing

Chapter XXXVIII, “The Fine Qualities of the Prophet’s Wives.”

She told that the people used to choose: ‘A’isha’s day to bring their gifts, seeking thereby to please God’s messenger. She said that God’s messenger’s wives were in two parties, one including ‘A’isha, Hafsa, Safiya, and Sauda, and the other including Umm Salama and the rest of God’s messenger’s wives. Umm Salama’s party spoke to her telling her to ask God’s messenger to say to the people, “If anyone wishes to make a present to God’s messenger, let him present it to him wherever he happens to be.” She did so and he replied, “Do not annoy me regarding ‘A’isha, for inspiration has not come to me when I was in any WOMAN’S GARMENT but ‘A’isha’s.” They then called Fatima, sent her to God’s messenger, and she spoke to him, but he replied, “Do you not like what I like, girlie?” She said, “Certainly,” so he said, “Then love this woman.” (Bukhari and Muslim.) 7) Mohammed had sex with a mentally handicapped woman

9) Mohammed had sex with Aisha when she was 9 years old  -  Muslim (8:3309) - Muhammad consummated his marriage to Aisha when she was only nine.  (See also Bukhari 58:234 and many other places).  No where in the reliable Hadith or Sira is there any other age given.    --- 

Bukhari (62:18) - Aisha's father, Abu Bakr, wasn't on board at first, but Muhammad explained how the rules of their religion made it possible.  This is similar to the way that present-day cult leaders manipulate their followers into similar concessions.   ---

Muslim (8:3311) - The girl took her dolls with her to Muhammad's house (something to play with when the "prophet" was not having sex with her).

10) Mohammed apparently had sex with a dead woman  ---  “Kanz Al Umal” (The Treasure of the Workers), in the chapter of “The issues of women”, authored by Ali Ibn Husam Aldin, commonly known as Al-Mutaki Al-Hindi. He based his book on the hadiths and sayings listed in “Al-Jami Al-Saghir,” written by Jalal ul-Din Al-Suyuti.
Narrated by Ibn Abbas:
“I (Muhammad) put on her my shirt that she may wear the clothes of heaven, and I SLEPT with her in her coffin (grave) that I may lessen the pressure of the grave. She was the best of Allah’s creatures to me after Abu Talib”… The prophet was referring to Fatima , the mother of Ali.
The Arabic scholar Demetrius explains : “The Arabic word used here for “slept” is “Id’tajat,” and literally means “lay down” with her. It is often used to mean, “lay down to have sex.” Muhammad is understood as saying that because he slept with her she has become like a wife to him so she will be considered like a “mother of the believers.” This will supposedly prevent her from being tormented in the grave, since Muslims believed that as people wait for the Judgment Day they will be tormented in the grave. “Reduce the pressure” here means that the torment won’t be as much because she is now a “mother of the believers” after Muhammad slept with her and “consummated” the union.”

So, my question is - as these stories all come from the Sira and the Hadith, which are Islamic Holy Scriptures - have the Islamic Holy Scriptures been corrupted by Jews?

Likewise the phrase of Allah "being the best deceiver". kheir ol makarein, is also used of Allah in Suras 8:30 and 10:21. Sura 10:21 says Allah is the fastest in planning/deceit

Other references to the plotting/deceit/scheming of Allah are Sura 7:99; 27:50; 13:42; 14:46; 43:79; 86:15f.; 7:100; 4:142

Yet English translations of the Qur’an typically have a softer phrase, as Appendix I shows. So in these verses, specifically how should this word be more accurately translated, and generally, what is the role of deception in Islam?

Etymology of the Word Makara

Sura 3:54 says that Allah makara. The Arabic word makara means to deceive, scheme, or plan. The Arabic Bible in Genesis 3:1 uses the same word for Satan. However, the Vand Dyck and Jerusalem Bibles use the root word hayala.

This word "schemer" (maakir) is a very strong word which Wehr and Abdel-Nour define as "sly, cunning, wily". The Arabic-Arabic unjid defines it with khuda`a which means exactly the same thing (by Bill Campbell in his book The Qur'an and the Bible in the Light of History and Science p.217-218).

Interpretation of Sura 3:54

The person who is a makir (same form as the word kafir) speaking of the attribute of a person is one who would outwit someone else to cause them harm. It speaks of one who would reveal the opposite of what he plans to do. The reality is that he is scheming evil for that person. So yes there is the sense of planning and scheming but mostly it means to trick, outwit and deceive for the purpose of overpowering and conquering the other. A makir is one who devises a secret scheme against someone else. Synonyms would be cheating, defrauding, double-crossing, deceiving, tricking, in all cases makara has the sense of defeating the one you have tricked.

The Context of Sura 3:54

The context of this story is very important. Sura 3 is regarded to be the great dialogue of Muhammad with the Christians. Al-Tabari says here that the deceit of Allah applies to the time where the Jews wanted to kill Isa the son of Mary. In order not to be killed Allah put the appearance of Jesus’ face on someone else, who was crucified instead of Jesus. This is how Allah had everybody, even Jesus get deceived.

Strikingly when it comes to the cross, the very central part of biblical teaching, Allah is called khayr ulmakirin the most deceitful. Some one
wants to conceal that he lost the battle on the cross! Here the true nature of Allah is revealed!

Vatican Exposes Double Standard

Benedict XVI condemns exhibit, notes Koran would never be likewise debased:

The Pope has condemned a "disgusting" taxpayer-funded exhibition in which visitors are urged to deface the Bible.

Visitors were offered pens by gallery bosses so they could scrawl comments on the text - leading to a host of puerile and obscene remarks.

Pope Benedict XVI believes the stunt would not have been contemplated with a copy of the Koran.

His anger over the show, organised by council-funded arts body Culture and Sport Glasgow, was expressed by a senior Vatican priest.

The adviser to the Pope said: "It is disgusting and offensive. They would not think of doing it to the Koran."

Public complaints about the exhibit at the prestigious Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow have forced organisers to put the vandalised Bible on show in a locked case, while still allowing visitors to write comments on blank sheets of paper.

The Made In God's Image exhibit is the work of Glasgow artist Anthony Schrag.
He wanted gays and transsexuals who felt left out of religion to 'write their way back in' to the holy text.

Mr Schrag worked with members of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) in Edinburgh on the project.

But MCC minister Jane Clarke said: "I had hoped people would show respect for the Bible. I am saddened some have chosen to write offensive messages."

Geert Gaining Ground in Holland

Picking up on Pastorius' post regarding Geert Wilders, the BBC's Mark Mardell has an intriguing write-up in reference to the rambunctious "Flying Dutchman":

Three black cars screech into the market square. Shoppers enjoying the sun and a break in one of the many cafes around the square look up from their drinks and ice creams.

About ten serious-looking men in suits with bulges under their jackets get out of the back two cars and position themselves around the front vehicle. One carries a fold-out, body-length bullet-proof shield.

Who can be in the front car? The prime minister? A member of the Dutch royal family? Suddenly a white blond quiff emerges, followed by its owner, Geert Wilders, leader of the Freedom Party (PVV).

He may not be royalty but he is, according to some opinion polls, more popular than the Dutch government and hopes to do well in the European elections. He wants to hold a referendum to demonstrate the Dutch people are against the Lisbon Treaty, as they were against the constitution, and wants to take powers back from Brussels. But that's not why he grabs the attention.

He is the Netherlands' Mr Provocative, determined to poke sensitive Muslim opinion in the eye. But is he the heir to the mantle of the extreme right or a post-modern populist? Where does his PVV fit in the political spectrum?

He's been banned from Britain, is being prosecuted in the Netherlands for hate crimes, has made a film about the Koran - a book he wants banned - and promises a second film that will be just as forthright.

Why, I ask him, does he wanted to ban the holy book of Islam?

"It is a book full of incitement to violence and I am very much for freedom of speech. Incitement to violence is over the red line. I have nothing against Muslims, but I fear, and a lot of my voters fear, the growing Islamisation of Europe, of the Netherlands, of Britain, of Denmark, of many European countries. So although we have nothing against Muslims as such, we believe that immigration and the influx of the Islamic symbolism is changing our society."

He's very much against Turkey joining the European Union and wants to take powers back from the EU. He is not advocating leaving the euro or the EU, but wants the balance of power to change. But there's little doubt it is his opinions of Islam that are eye-catching.

There's certainly genuine support for him among people who rush to have their picture taken with him. One woman tells me "he says what millions of us think". It is a refrain I hear repeatedly.

"I am not a racist at all. I am a democratic person, I have nothing against anybody, any race, only I fear Islamisation. I see Islam as more of an ideology than a religion. It wants to dominate every part of our society and wants us to submit, to dominate us. I've nothing against any people, any colour, any background, any sexual preference." (Read entire article)
