Circling the Wagons

Guest Editorial by Edward Cline:

In a crisis, if a rational moral standard is discarded, pragmatism, allied with altruism, is the only recourse open to men attempting to end the crisis. Then the only deciding factor in a resolution is “pressure” on the conflicting parties to abandon or compromise their positions. A pragmatic standard, after all, would require recognition not of an absolute, non-negotiable value, but the fluid, subjective “ethos” that renders all values “value-neutral,” and satisfy no one but the pragmatists. If a value is said to be no better than any other, it is implied that it cannot be so important that its defense is worth the risk of destruction, “violence,” or a “disproportionate” action.

The news media reflects this philosophy in its choice of phrases and terms in reporting the Israeli-Hezbollah war. The reportage of the conflict, in general, is as far removed from reality as the thinking of the diplomats who are scrambling to stave off a wider conflict and evade having to take a moral stand.

There are no heroes in any news report. For example, John Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, when appointed by President Bush to that position, was billed and subsequently excoriated by the press and media as a “hardliner” contemptuous of the U.N. and likely to start fist fights with the America-haters on the Security Council or in the U.N. cafeteria. But Bolton’s tough talk mellowed; he has predictably succumbed to the corrupting ethic of the U.N.’s value-neutral pragmatism. It is Bolton who worked with French U.N. ambassador Jean-Marc La Sabliere on the wording of the resolution calling for a cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon.

MSNBC reports that Bolton told the Associated Press, “We’re still pressing for a vote on a resolution as early as we can, but we’ve got to reach agreement, and there are still a lot of issues that need to be considered. So, when will the vote be? It’s hard to say at this point.”

Certainly not Mike Hammer speaking. Bolton subsequently, at France’s behest (and on instruction from Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice), agreed to amend the wording and points of the resolution to accommodate the concerns of Arab League diplomats. And, yesterday, Rice announced a cease-fire “deal” that all parties, but most especially Israel, can “live with.” A policy of pragmatism must necessarily focus on and require the submission of the victim, in this instance, Israel, not on the aggressor, in this instance, Iran, by way of Hezbollah. Absolutes, such as Israel’s right to self-defense, are not options when pragmatists are “brokering” a peace. The rule that the “best defense is an offense,” initially subscribed to by Israel (after years of retreat) is not to be found in any diplomatic manual.

La Sabliere, of course, acted on instructions from French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy (at the behest of President Jacques Chirac), who, according to BBC News, asserted that “there could be no military solution to the crisis -- so Israel must stop the shooting, as well as Hezbollah.” France, so chic and sophisticated and worldly in some respects, is Europe’s premiere connoisseur of pragmatism. Douste-Blazy recently met with his Iranian counterpart in Beirut and praised Iran as a “stabilizing force” in the Mideast. I am betting that the Iranian foreign minister retreated to a restroom out of earshot, and doubled up in laughter.

France, of course, seeks to ingratiate itself not only with its Arab friends, but also with its own hostile, refractory Muslim population.

Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, very likely surrendering to “pressure” from its alleged ally, the U.S., has indicated he is open to a U.N.-sponsored international force to secure the border between Israel and Lebanon. Which is tantamount to expecting the Visigoths to protect Rome against the Huns.

The U.S., ready to “negotiate” its commitment to Israel’s existence, has also predictably allowed France to set the terms of resolution. BBC News reports that “France is at the center of intense diplomatic efforts to bring about a cease-fire in Lebanon, in the face of grave risks that the conflict could spread out of control. Does France hold the key to peace in the Middle East?”

No. It holds the key to further strife there, in the form of more attacks on Israel. There are no terms of reconciliation possible between Israel’s wish to survive and the Arabs’ wish for Israel to perish, either immediately or by bleeding it to death from endless suicidal concessions.

The Associated Press reported on MSNBC: “At an open Security Council meeting on Tuesday, Qatar’s Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani, speaking on behalf of the Arab delegation [to the U.N.], warned Israel that continuing attacks on Lebanon will ‘sow the seeds of hatred and extremism in the area’ rather than restore peace and stability.”

One must wonder if the reporter who filed this story presumed Jassem was speaking tongue-in-cheek. First, it was Israel that was attacked. Second, it is Lebanon that has served as the Arab world’s “neutral” launching pad for rockets and other assaults on Israel, acting as a “democratic” proxy for its enmity for Israel. Third, the “seeds of hatred and extremism” were sown decades ago; the hatred and “extremism” emanating from diplomatic lounges and the “Arab street” show no signs of abating.

The West’s concept of a “stabilized” Mideast is based on a Hegelian notion of the marriage of thesis and antithesis -- Israel coexisting with the Arabs -- to attain some ethereal apotheosis in human evolution and “multicultural” relations. The Arabs’ concept of a “stabilized” Mideast is simply the obliteration of Israel. Name one ayatollah, imam (abroad or here at home), Iranian president, Jordanian king, Palestinian or Hamas thug, Syrian dictator, Hezbollah cleric or Saudi or Pakistani madrassa that hasn’t preached that concept and goal and never minded its being known to the West. Which concept is dotty, and which is “realistic”?

Hitler was being “realistic” in his appraisal of France and Britain’s moral fiber and commitment to the sovereignty of nations he wished to conquer. The diplomatic waffling of Britain’s Neville Chamberlain especially only emboldened Hitler to move into Poland, the Rhineland, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Similarly, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has taken the measure of the U.S.’s commitment to defend Israel. He has already dared to send Iranian “volunteers” to fight alongside Hezbollah, in addition to supplying rockets and other war matériel by way of Syria.

Significantly, there has not been one news item anywhere reporting that Ahmadinejad, a pig for publicity, has denied the charge.

Correspondents of mine have precisely described as “reactive” overall Western behavior since 9/11 and the Islamic declaration of war on the West, and particularly on the U.S., while the creation of Homeland Security, TSA and all the nascent totalitarian restrictions being imposed on Americans they likened to erecting a virtual Maginot line (which the Germans, when they moved on France, simply bypassed) to keep out the Hun.

I’ll go one better, and liken our current policy to a permanent circling of the wagons, or building a stockade to repair to next to a frontier town, with no hope that the cavalry will ever come to the rescue by eradicating the Indian war parties and lifting the siege, because it’s pinned down up at Little Big Horn. That is what our policy has done, transformed the world into a frontier in which civilized men exist in constant peril, and the Indians may roam and raid at will, untouchable, because that is their “lifestyle” and their grievances over encroaching civilization are legitimate and beyond judgment.

That is, the West has accepted, indefinitely, as a norm, a state of siege. A state of siege requires the diminution of the freedom and liberties of the besieged, which is what we are witnessing now in the U.S. The besiegers will do as they please, and keep probing for weaknesses, or find a way to bypass our Maginot line. And all we will do is “react.”

It is certainly pragmatic to prohibit paying passengers from taking liquids, make-up, toothpaste and laptop computers on board commercial planes to thwart suicide bombers. But this is merely another example of a siege philosophy, a policy to protect the country from enemies the Bush administration refuses to acknowledge and attack. Do these restrictions on Americans serve to preserve freedom, liberty and other rights that creatures like Michael Chertoff, head of Homeland Security, claim they are serving? Hardly.

What is preventing the U.S. from dealing with Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia as they should be dealt with, that is, as enemies dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the U.S. and candidates for a thorough, debilitating military reduction? For one thing, our State Department. John Bolton hales from the State Department. Condoleezza Rice now heads that department. Both have been either seduced or corrupted by it. One would need to go back more than half a century to find the name of an individual in that department who boasted an iota of moral courage.

Our State Department is markedly anti-American. It has been staffed by leftists, One-World loons, and Hegelians for decades. It has worked to undermine or sabotage every semi-assertive, semi-rational policy adopted by various occupants of the White House over the last forty or so years, rare as those policies have been.

Another disruptive factor is multiculturalism, which acts as a cognitive anticoagulant that stops the West from formulating and adopting a solid, assertive, and self-assertive moral policy vis-à-vis its enemies. One isn’t likely to proclaim freedom, individual rights and press freedom (too much) if one is convinced that those values aren’t superior to or any better than abject submission to religious tyranny or other form of “cultural” collectivism. They are just “different,” beyond judgment, beyond comparison.

A mind poisoned by multiculturalism and suborned by political correctness will see no difference between, say, Rudolph Evans’s magnificent statue of an intransigently proud Jefferson in the rotunda of the Jefferson Memorial and the degrading, obsequious figure of a Muslim bowing to Mecca. Such a mind would shudder at the prospect of swearing eternal hostility to anything, never mind to every form of tyranny over the mind of man. That kind of language is banished from the minds of our pragmatic policymakers.

But, these are the kinds of minds that are preparing the U.S., Israel and the West for future turmoil and disaster.

More On The Belgian Governments Harrassment Of The Brussels Journal Blog

The Brussels Journal received a reply from the government which explains why the Belgian government is harrassing the proprietors of the blog.

Read it here.

And, here is Paul Belien's analysis of the situation:

Our website appears to be one of the “small number of cases” in which the Belgian authorities “proceed to legal action” by sending the police to our door in order to question us. Stanley Kurtz at National Review has also spoken out in our defence, saying: “Let the public decide whether to visit The Brussels Journal and how seriously they wish to take its reports and arguments. That is the way to handle disagreements, and infinitely preferable to shutting down the site. [...] In other words, it would be a crime against the principle of free speech – and against the interests of Europe and the West – to shut down The Brussels Journal, particularly at a moment of such danger, testing, and decision for the West.”

Belgium, however, is one of the European countries where freedom of speech is most restricted, as is also evident from the prosecution of Father Samuel, a Belgian priest of Turkish origin, who is standing trial because he warns that Christians will be persecuted in Europe once Muslims become a majority.

Perhaps the priest is wrong (let us hope so, because Muslims are becoming a majority in Europe), but if Father Samuel, who speaks from personal experience, feels that he should give his warning, why would any country that claims to be “a democracy in which the freedom of expression and a free press are guaranteed by the constitution and the legal system” prevent him from doing so? I see only one reason: because the country in question is being governed by appeasers of islamo-fascism.

Our case has nothing to do with racism. Belgium is following an old tradition which, in the fall of 1939, led Brussels to introduce an “administrative censorship” which prohibited “anti-German and unpatriotic publications.”

The “anti-Germans” of the 1930s are the “islamophobes” of today.

Two More Muslims Arrested With 200 Cell Phones

Everyday another story like this is coming out:

Last week, the Grafton police pulled over 24-year-old Hashem Sayed for a routine traffic stop. But what they found in his car was far from routine. Patrolman Daniel Laymon recalls the scene, "There were multiple cell phones, roughly 150 to 200 cell phones from multiple retailers," he said.

Buying that many pre-paid phones is not a crime, but the police say it is unusual.
Less than a week later, the authorities in Marietta, Ohio, arrested 20-year-old Osma Sabhi Abulhassan and 20-year-old Ali Houssaiky. Washington County Sheriffs deputies seized several pre-paid cell phones and thousands of dollars in cash. Because of the incidents, Grafton police believe the events are connected.

"The department feels that there are a lot of similar circumstances and there are a lot of similarities between the activity there and the activity experienced here," said Patrolman Laymon.

The activity seems to be more than just a coincidence. All three men are from Dearborn, Michigan and all three gave similar reasons for buying the phones. Sayed said he was buying them to ship to California to sell for a profit. But Washington County's sheriff says that may not be the whole truth. "They are digital for detonating car bombs and they have a particular digital frequency and that's what they're using them for," said Sheriff Larry Mincks.

Mincks says the men also had instructions on how to obtain private flights and airplane passenger information.

"It also had some information concerning airport security and check points."

He says the two men apprehended in Ohio are linked to another man who is being investigated for possible terrorism. Now, police across the state have a warning for residents.

Honestly, I don't think these men need hundreds of cell phones for detonators. I really think they are using disposable cell phones because they are untraceable by the government. Here's an article Reliapundit wrote on this back in January 2006.

Storm Track Disinformation: Remembering What a "Peaceful" Religion Brought Us Back in `41

From The Gathering Storm

Fascism is as fascism does. This cutting, tongue in cheek satire depicts Islam in general as an enemy of America on a par with Japanese fascism in the 1940s, and Bush's understated, matter-of-fact acknowledgement that Islam isn't really the problem as treacherously naïve.

Just an aside, if you knew the history of Imperial Japan and the Great Pacific War you would know that Shinto, as the State Religion of the Empire, was a key motivating factor for Imperial forces, as was the medieval Samurai ideal and Bushido code.

From the Free Congress Foundation reprinted here in its entirety because it doesn’t need any outside comments.

December 7, 2002: President George W. Bush Issues Statement, Hosts Japanese-American "Sunrise" Breakfast To Mark Pearl Harbor Anniversary.

Following yesterday's message from President Bush honoring the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, the President today hosted a "sunrise breakfast" for leading Japanese-Americans, the Japanese diplomatic community and a delegation of Shinto priests from Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, which commemorates Japan's war dead.

In his remarks delivered before the breakfast, President Bush said, "I want to thank all of you for joining me on a day that means so much both to Americans and to Japanese. Our countries are and always have been good friends. Our cultures are very much alike. We both place great value on individual freedom and opportunity. We both value frankness and straightforward dealing. We have both always been peaceful countries, at home and abroad. And we both have great respect for other cultures and peoples.

"I want to thank the delegation from Yasukuni Shrine for coming so far to join us and to lead us in prayer before our meal. I know that Christianity and Shinto are very much alike. Both are religions of peace, just as Islam is a religion of peace. Shinto leads faithful Japanese to lead lives of honesty and integrity and compassion, as many Americans who were once guests of Japan can attest.

"In hosting this morning's breakfast, I send a message to all the dead warriors gathered at the Yasukuni shrine. America treasures your friendship. America honors your faith.

"We see in Shinto a religion that traces its origins back to rocks and trees. We share your belief in the Gods' inscrutable ways, and in your insistence on man's submission to his arbitrary fate. We thank the many Japanese, past and present, who stand with us against terror, against attacks delivered without warning, like those on September 11, 2001. That is truly a date which, to coin a phrase, will live in infamy.

"Today's breakfast sends a message to all Americans: our nation fought a war against a small number of misguided Japanese naval pilots, not against a religion, and not against a civilization. One of the deepest commitments of America is tolerance. No one should be treated unkindly because of the color of their skin or the content of their creed or their propensity to appear unexpectedly over other people's harbors. No one should be unfairly judged by appearance or ethnic background, or religious faith, or general sneakiness. We must uphold these values of progress and pluralism and tolerance.

"I thank you for coming to the White House this morning. Please join me after breakfast on the White House lawn, where we have arranged a special flyover of Japanese naval aircraft, so we can all see the rising sun at its most dramatic. Don't forget your coats; there's a little nip in the air this morning."

Following the flyover, the Japanese ambassador expressed his deep respect for America by presenting President Bush with the shorter of the two traditional Japanese swords. Both Japanese and Americans applauded the gesture loudly.

Hezbollah Won't Back Down

Well, who would have thought it? From a CNN breaking news email alert-

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah says his guerrillas would agree to any cease-fire brokered by the United Nations but insists the militant group has a right to resist Israel.

In other words, we agree to the ceasefire so long as it only applies to Israel and we get to resume full scale "firing rockets blindly at civilian targets" again soon.

I'll bet the UN folds, the attacks against Israel continue or stop for just a short time, and then Israel is criticised the next time it tries to do anything about this attempt by murderers to blow up civilians.

Odd that when the British police stop just such a plot politicians in the UK and US hail it as a success- but when Israel tries to do exactly the same thing it's lambasted.

Media Manipulation

Just in case you missed it- more evidence from LGF of fauxtography. This time it's the image of a bloody young girl being carried into a hospital, apparently killed by an Israeli airstrike on Gaza. According to AP and Reuters that is.

Problem is, it's a complete lie. She actually fell from a swing and received her head wounds that way.

Another dead child, more anti-Israeli propaganda.

If you have the stomach for it, you can see just how "civil defence" worker Green Helmet does his job; by parading the body of another child for the world's press to see.

I don't know what's worse- that Green Helmet and his cohorts behave like this or that the Western media laps it all up? If it hadn't been for bloggers like LGF and EU Referendum, do you think that the BBC, CNN or any of the others would have exposed this blatant and disgusting propaganda? Or would they just go on, keeping quiet about the manipulation and happily publishing the results?

Just before I go- the latest from EU Referendum is the practice of actually digging bodies up so that they can be laid out for the photographers. The link he provides is currently down- capacity exceeded. Here's the quote from photographer Bryan Denton-

"i have been witness to the daily practice of directed shots, one case where a group of wire photogs were choreographing the unearthing of bodies, directing emergency workers here and there, asking them to position bodies just so, even remove bodies that have already been put in graves so that they can photograph them in peoples arms. These photographers have come away with powerful shots, that required no manipulation digitally, but instead, manipulation on a human level, and this itself is a bigger ethical problem."

As they say, this is a developing story.

Hizbullah acquired 20 different rocket types from Iran, Syria, China

Gertz again..excerpted...

TEL AVIV — The Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies said Hizbullah has acquired or maintained access to nearly 20 models of rockets, many of which have been used in the war against Israel. In a report, the center said Hizbullah demonstrated the superiority of rockets over the more accurate artillery systems for hit-and-run strikes.
c802b.jpg

"Rocket systems are very easy to produce and operate," stated the report by researcher Yiftah Shapir.
The report cited Hizbullah deployments of Iranian, Chinese and Syrian missiles. They included the 107-mm Fajr-1, with a range of 8.5 kilometers, to the 9M218 122-mm Grad grad.jpg class rocket.

Hizbullah has access to the entire family of Iranian-origin Fajr- and Falak-class rockets. The report cited the 240-mm Fajr-3, with a range of up to 43 kilometers, as well as the 330-mm Fajr-5.

BBC Apologists

It didn't take long to begin: Muslim terrorists are twarted hours away from committing mass murder of innocents and the BBC springs into action with a story on a scared community- the Muslim one.

And all around those homes [raided by police] there was an apprehensive, scared Muslim community.

They've got to be terrified of those international terrorists threatening to murder them in the name of Allah...um, is that right? I haven't got anything mixed up here have I?

First of all the BBC contacts a local shop owner who is appalled. He even stocks a pamphlet by an Islamic scholar which ponders whether or not bombing and wreaking havoc are justifiable-

Its 26 pages are dense, hard-going Islamic scripture - but the message is there; these are "shameful acts" that have no justification in Islam.

Well, that's all right then isn't it? For a moment there I was beginning to get worried that there might be some sort of global cult of killers inspired by ancient texts to justify their murderous appetites. I wonder how long it took the reporter to read and digest this "dense" text? He did read it obviously, because he's fit to comment on the contents. Right? And, is it just me or are there no Christian or Buddhist texts which have to question such issues? Hmm, I wonder if there could be some hidden message there for us?

And that's not the worst of it- the BBC is quick to interview the best friend of one of the men arrested, pointing out that he's a social, integrated kind of guy- obviously quite innocent of all charges against him. Heck, they even interview a former teacher of Waheed Zaman who is also convinced that the poor chap is totally innocent-

I've taught for 48 years and he would be one I would remember as a good kid.

Can't get a better character reference than that, can you? But the intrepid BBC doesn't stop there! Not content with trying to convince readers that it's all been a big mistake to arrest Zaman, they go on to visit the local mosque to guage opinion there.

Many were quick to express their frustration - not just at the arrests and a sense of being targeted, but also at what they saw as to blame: foreign policy.

While the real local problems may be poverty, education or unemployment, it was Britain's perceived role in the US's Middle East policy that made people angry.

"Muslims are getting it everywhere and if you want to know why these things happen then you've got to ask yourselves questions about why Britain is fighting in Muslim lands," said one young well-mannered man.

See, it's not the fault of the murderous terrorists who want nothing more than to kill innocent people- it's all down to Britain's foreign policy. If only we'd do what those blood-thirsty savages want then there wouldn't be all this trouble.

No teeth, no stomach, and no brains - OXYMORON ALERT

Security Council OKs Mideast Peace Deal

There is a deal but no peace.

The 'robust force' to be placed in southern Lebanon, will not, if they see Hizballah firing missiles at Haifa have the mandate to take out the men and launchers of the aggressor racist murderers.

This is not a "chapter 7" resolution.

hezbollah_salute.jpg

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution Friday that calls for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, and authorizes the deployment of 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers to help Lebanese troops take control of south Lebanon as Israel withdraws.

The draft, which had been proposed by the United States and France, offers the best chance yet for peace after more than four weeks of significant bloodshed. It was the first significant action by the Security Council, the most powerful U.N. body, to address a war that has killed more than 800 people, destroyed Lebanon's infrastructure and inflamed tensions across the Middle East.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert endorsed the resolution late Friday, after a day of dramatic day brinksmanship including a threat to expand the ground war in Lebanon. But Israeli officials said Israel would not halt fighting until Israel's Cabinet has approved the cease-fire deal in its weekly meeting Sunday.

The UN has proved again that simply 'stopping the killing' stops nothing and postpones for another day that which is predestined by racist theologies to occur - get ready for Hizballah victory celebrations, and a do nothing 'UNIFIL II'

Play The Dhimmi

This is just incredible- and the sheer gall of it is shocking.

British Muslim groups have written to Tony Blair to demand changes to UK foreign policy in order to safeguard British citizens at home and abroad.

The letter was signed by three Muslim MPs and 38 other groups.

Muslim Council of Britain secretary general Mohammed Abdul Bari said civilians in the UK, the Middle East and the rest of the world should "all enjoy protection".

Of course they should but I find is amazing that just days after a plot to murder thousands of people peacefully going about their daily business by Islamic terrorists that prominent British Muslims should call, not for the terrorists to stop targeting innocent men, women and children, but for the government to appease the perceived grievances of those terrorists.

Surrender in advance.

But We're All "People of the Book", Right?

Sorry if this was already posted. If not, I find it important. This is a report from AINA, the Assyrian International News Agency on Hizballah using Christians in Lebanon as shields. Yes, the Assyrians still exist despite centuries of attempts to eradicate them. This is just a more recent blow:

"Launching attacks behind human shields is in violation of the Geneva Convention's provision for the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts, which prohibits the use of civilians as military shields.

This is not a new strategy for Hezbollah. Col. Charbel Barka, a former South Lebanese Army commander, says Hezbollah is repeating what it did in attacks against Israel in 1996.

A Christian from the village of Ain Ebel, who requested to remain nameless for fear of a reprisal from Hezbollah, reported that he found Hezbollah fighters setting up a launcher on his rooftop. Hezbollah fighters ignored his pleas to stop and fired the missiles. He immediately gathered his family and fled his home, which was bombed 15 minutes later by an Israeli air strike.

Hezbollah has also attempted to stop Christians from fleeing their villages. According to Christian Solidarity International, on July 28, Hezbollah fighters fired upon several Christians fleeing Rmeish with their families, wounding two.

Sami El-Khoury, president of the World Maronite Union, adds that media reports about Christian support for Hezbollah are inaccurate.

"Contrary to Western press reports, indicating high percentages of Christian support for Hezbollah, 90 percent of Christians, 80 percent of Sunni and 40 percent of Shiites in Lebanon oppose Hezbollah," El-Khoury told Christian Solidarity International."

So much for respecting those dhimmis. Ooooh, I'm so shocked.

This report courtesy of TROP. The news of Lebanese parties deciding to possibly bring suit against Israel for "war crimes" (the good news is that a counter suit by Israel would be de rigeur in that case) from the recent stagings, um, I mean Hizballah dictated casualties in the conflict is courtesy of CNN.

The recent switch on America's National Public Radio from "Hizballah" to "Hizballah fighters" to "Hizballah guerrilla fighters" is courtesy of pure idiocy and kind of like one of those time-lapse films showing a storm coming in. My biggest MSM worry at the moment (aside from CBS' constant campaign to destroy the US and their ability to finally live up to their station's name since 9/11) is the reporters in Lebanon. I'm seeing a lot of this on CNN in particular, but the reporters stationed in Beirut and a few others in Lebanon are definitely going native. I can't say that the reaction isn't to be expected; they are surrounded by Lebanese and probably frightened of being on that side of the war zone. But the bias is starting to show.

That, and when you are still posting on the screen "Developing Story : Crisis in the Middle East/ Day 31" it's time for some new graphics. We all know how quickly and how tastelessly they can be done, complete with music. But when you're still posting which day of the "crisis" you're reporting on and it's been a MONTH, that's really a sign that you need to wake up and realize that it's a WAR.

I'll track down the sources as best I can later, but I'm posting what I've just seen and what I've heard on NPR's "Morning Edition" as well as other NPR programs (www.npr.org).

Calling For Moderation Against Fascism Is A Very Strange Thing To Do

The Anchoress is calling for moderation in response to the latest thwarted terror plot:

The news is serious…so why is so much that is being written and spewed forth so wretchedly unserious? Why am I getting such a strong sense that - for some, note, I say some on both the left and the right (and in the media) - this event is an excuse for extraordinarily reckless, demented and self-interested excess?

Go to the righty forums and you find a lot of this talk (paraphrased):

- When Oh When will Bush take a page from FDR and inter all Muslims and Middle-Easterners into concentration camps, or totally deport them all? All Muslims are evil! This will wake up those idiots who voted out Lieberman, though, maybe! President Bush is captive of the globalist PC one-worlders or he’d be doing the right thing!

- This just proves that we’ve been too soft in Iraq and we need to just bomb the hell out of everyone! The war on terror won’t be won until we make Mecca a wasteland!

- This is why we need sealed borders, even though these terrorists were Brit CITIZENS and the cell phone sellers are US CITIZENS, that doesn’t matter. Close the borders now! Impeach Bush. Impeach Cheney. Go Tancredo!

I have to wonder why the Anchoress bothers reading such crapaola writing, much less reporting on it. The opinions she is parodying there are straight out of central casting from the latest Bushitler movie. There are no such people within the credible right-wing.

So, who is she parodying? It isn't satire, if it doesn't have a target.

Of course, there are loonies at blogs who do say such things, but they are not part of the national discourse, whereas the lefty voices she parodies in her post (go to the link and click if you want to see them) are clearly the mainstream of the Democratic party at this moment.

Now, in a comment over at Lumpy's blog, the Anchoress writes:

I do think the murderous fiends of Islam are a too-visible minority who have cowed even the “silent majority” of Muslims who are decent people. I am frankly getting leery of the “all Muslims are evil” mindset and think we should tread around that very carefully.

I love the Anchoress, but with all due respect, all her post, and her comment here is serving to do is to position herself as a moderate, which is a fruitless exercise when one is positioning oneself with regards to Islam. It’s like saying, “Not all of Hitler’s followers were evil.” So what?

The thing is, the world view put forth by the Koran is evil. The face put forth by Islam in the political arena is evil or filled with deceit. There is no substantial Islamic political voice for moderation. All the major political groups which represent Muslims are radical in nature.

Like the Anchoress, I believe there are huge numbers of what I would call moderate Muslims. These, from my experience are Muslims who follow the good things the Koran says. They wish non-Muslims well. They are interested in giving and receiving love within their families, and within the larger world.

However, these Muslims are like decent Germans under Hitler. They are a completely unrepresented political body. They do not make their voices heard. Therefore, they are insubstantial, and they are ignored by the Islamofascists who control the Islamic voice.

It may not be The Anchoress’ intent to position herself as a moderate out of a sense of self-agrandizement, but the fact is, that as long as she is not dealing with Islam as it presents itself, the only person her words serve is her own self. It makes her look cool, but it doesn’t move the debate forward.

It is important that we say, “We hate the Islam of Jihad, strict-Sharia, and the burqa. If you are not that kind of Muslim, then you are my friend. But, please, for our sake, and for your own sake, stand up and be counted as being against this fascist form of Islam. Because if you don’t, then we are all going to have a big problem come the time when the West is hit really hard by Islamic terrorists.”

Instead of urging moderation in the public discourse about Islam, the Anchoress ought to be urging Muslims to show us their moderation. Muslims must help themselves. Their population is represented by adult human beings. They need to be responsible for what they put out in the public.

Thus far, moderate Muslims have not begun to be responsible for themselves. I think the Anchoress was off target, and it would seem time for a clarification and perhaps an apology to the right-wing she has lampooned.

Let me be clear, I am not a right-winger. I am a lifelong Democrat. (The fact that the Democratic party has become something more akin to the anti-Semitic isolationist right of the 1930's and 1940's does not make me any less of a liberal.) So, my reaction to the Anchoress is not one of personal offense. Instead, I simply think we need less calls for moderation, and more urgent calls for moderate Muslims to stand up and be counted.

The longer we wait to get serious, and the longer moderate Muslims wait to stand up and be counted, the worse the weaponry of the Islamofascist regimes will become.

Fulfilling the Will of Allah

A man gets up in the morning, takes a bath, combs his hair and beard, and puts clean clothes on. He walks down the road, enters a mall and then promptly self-detonates, taking an untold number of innocent lives with him. In the ensuing investigation, people who knew him tell the police that he was a normal guy--that he had a sense of humor, he was polite to his neighbors and that he wasn't violent. When the investigators can't find any apparent explanation as to why the man became a suicide bomber, all they can come up with is, 'He was suffering from a mental disorder'. Case closed.

What is it that makes a man so depressed that he ends up killing himself...

Another comedic episode, just call them "southerner asians", you know, "dixslamics"

Muslims criticise naming of plot suspects

laughing%20chimps.gif
LONDON (Reuters) - Muslims criticised the government on Friday for publishing the names of 19 men who police sources say are under arrest for allegedly plotting to blow up passenger planes bound for the United States.

The government instructed the Bank of England to publish the names on its Web site on Thursday, just hours after police arrested 24 people in connection with the suspected plot. Police have not named the 24 but a police source confirmed they include the 19 named by the central bank. Although the bank did not give the addresses of the 19, it listed their dates of birth and the areas where they live.

The bank's action is unusual. Normally, authorities do not publish the names of suspects until they have been formally charged and identified by the police.

But the government defended the move, saying it was essential to ensure the assets of the 19 were frozen.

"The Treasury has informed us that this is a normal procedure," Home Secretary John Reid told a news conference.

"When people's assets are frozen, the names are published, and this, the Treasury tells us, is part of the obligation of ensuring that people cannot deal with such individuals in the transfer of assets."

Some Muslim groups said the move was unnecessary and could hamper the suspects' chance of a fair trial if they are eventually charged in connection with the plot.

Let's stop pretending

Here is Britain

Here is Canada

Here is France

Here is the US

Here is AustraliaI could post twenty, thirty, forty more pictures here, each representing another country and the list of countries in a state of civil siege would not be exhausted. How did this come to pass? Why do we let it continue?

Bush did not cause this. Haliburton did not cause this. It is not caused by oil or imperialism or capitalism. It is not caused by Israel or "ignorance" or a lack of social programs for immigrants.

Here is what caused this.

Here is ground zero

Lets stop pretending.

I condemn the government of Israel

There are many who believe Israel satan's whelp.
There are many who believe Israel utterly dependent on the USA and a follower.
There are many who believe the USA has no national security interest in Israel's future.

But in this place and time, as the vast preponderance of the americans wordlessly recognize, we are inextricably linked, and therefore in this war we now depend on Israel to be Israel.
moshe_dayan.jpg

We depend on them to be those who fearlessly planned the scourge of the Egyptian and Syrian air forcesin 1967 and risked the national survival to do so, and to win. We depend on Israel to be those who finding themselves outgunned on Yom Kippur 1973, thought and then fought their way to so nearly a complete an annihilation of the Egytpian Third army, and so unhindered a march on Damascus, that only american threats to cut them off completely stopped them from destroying the last armed forces in the middle east of national opposition to their existance as a state and people. We depend on them to be the civilian army that cored the five professional armies which invaded them at the moment of their birth. We depend on them to be those who, unafraid of failure, planned to save hundreds of their own, 2500 miles from home with no support and little time, and then DID so

But Ehud Olmert and the Israeli men governing and elected, and the military men who have not quit in righteous indignation have fulfilled Hassan Abassi's fatal pronouncement...
y_netayahu.jpg

"The Western man today has no stomach for a fight," Abbasi says. "This phenomenon is not new: All empires produce this type of man, the self-centered, materialist, and risk-averse man."

From Frontpage:

As Israel nears the end of four weeks of fighting along the Lebanese border and seven weeks of fighting in Gaza, Israeli decision-makers appear guided by three main principles:
--avoidance of diplomatic sanctions;

--avoidance of military casualties;

-- and avoidance of domestic political blame for the countless and obvious mistakes in judgment being made at the upper levels of government and the army.

The Israeli govt has so far placed the political benefit of (lack of) IDF casualties above the lives of the people they are sworn to protect.

It is not the duty of the civilians to die for the army, it is the army's service and their duty and devotion to freedom and their families that make it possible for them to KILL THE ENEMY, and die doing so if needs be - which protects the populace.

Olmert and the Israeli govt have managed to invert the IDF's reason for existing

I condemn them.

Are We Safer, Or, Do More People Hate Us?

The answer is, who cares? We are in the middle of a war.

Here's how wars go. One group of people attacks another group of people. The second group retaliates. They fight back and forth.

During the course of a war, hatred between the two builds into a prolonged creschendo of malevolent feeling. Both sides try to make life as bad as they can for the enemy.

That's how wars go.

The idea of even asking whether we are safer in the midst of a war flies in the face of common sense. When was a nation ever safer during the course of a war?

On the Virtues of Killing Children

You are not going to like this.

On the demonstrable virtues of not caring if children die, on hardening your mind for war, and other things we can no longer avoid discussing.

Beware that you are ready before you pass this seal.

Let us begin with a debate between a peaceful, gentle soul, and me. The topic could be Israel's war, or ours in Iraq, or -- if they have the heart for it -- the one to come.

The gentle soul -- how I respect her! -- will begin by pointing out how many innocents have died in the recent wars, and especially the children, who are the most obviously innocent. She will point out figures for Iraq, for Afghanistan, for Lebanon, and ask: "How can you justify this? These poor children, who might have been good men, good women, lain in the cold earth?"

We have all had the conversation that far, have we not? We are accustomed to reply: "But the enemy is the one that targets children. We try our best to avoid hurting children. That makes us better. Furthermore, the enemy hides himself among children. As a result, in spite of our best efforts, sometimes children die on the other side also. But again, it is not our fault -- it is his fault. He endangers them."

She replies: "But how can you justify their deaths? Regardless of how hard you try, will you not kill them? Some of them? Should we not choose peace instead?"

Let us consider that.

A letter from Beirut

The most hypocritical people on earth By Michael Béhé in Beirut

The politicians, journalists and intellectuals of Lebanon have, of late, been experiencing the shock of their lives. They knew full well that Hezbollah had created an independent state in our country, a state including all the ministers and parallel institutions, duplicating those of Lebanon. What they did not know – and are discovering with this war, and what has petrified them with surprise and terror – is the extent of this phagocytosis.
In fact, our country had become an extension of Iran, and our so-called political power also served as a political and military cover for the Islamists of Teheran. We suddenly discovered that Teheran had stocked more than 12,000 missiles, of all types and calibers, on our territory and that they had patiently, systematically, organized a suppletive force, with the help of the Syrians, that took over, day after day, all the rooms in the House of Lebanon. Just imagine it : we stock ground-to-ground missiles, Zilzals, on our territory and that the firing of such devices without our knowledge, has the power to spark a regional strategic conflict and, potentially, bring about the annihilation of Lebanon.
We knew that Iran, by means of Hezbollah, was building a veritable Maginot line in the south but it was the pictures of Maroun el-Ras and Bint J’bail that revealed to us the magnitude of these constructions. This amplitude made us understand several things at once : that we were no longer masters of our destiny. That we do not possess the most basic means necessary to reverse the course of this state of things and that those who turned our country into an outpost of their islamic doctrine’s combat against Israel did not have the slightest intention of willingly giving up their hold over us.
Of course, our army, reshaped over the years by the Syrian occupier so it could no longer fulfill its role as protector of the nation, did not have the capacity to tackle the militamen of the Hezb [hezb-Allah : the party of Allah. Translator’s note]. Our army whom it is more dangerous to call upon – because of the explosive equilibrium that constitutes each of its brigades – than to shut up behind locked doors in its barracks. A force that is still largely loyal to its former foreign masters, to the point of being uncontrollable ; to the point of having collaborated with the Iranians to put OUR coastal radar stations at the disposal of their missiles, that almost sunk an Israeli boat off the shores of Beirut. As for the non-Hezbollah elements in the government, they knew nothing of the existence of land-to-sea missiles on our territory… That caused the totally justified destruction of all OUR radar stations by the Hebrews’ army. And even then we are getting off lightly in these goings-on.

AP TV: Inherent pro-Arab bias in all TV news

Little Green Footballs published an amazing article describing the business model of Associated Press TV News, which provides raw video images to all major broadcasters in much the same way AP and Reuters provides raw photographs to newspapers.

It has many of the inherent problems that the wire services have that can skew the news for the pro-Arab agenda: hiring local stringers to take the video and providing their own descriptions of the events which may or may not be biased or even accurate. The subscribing news services like BBC, CNN and Fox decide what to air and how to describe it, but the basic information is provided by APTN.

The most troubling part, though, is that Arab states hire the same APTN to provide entire newscasts for them, not just clips. The same people who have to create news programs for Arab TV (with the biases that they require) are coworkers with the ones who provide the supposedly unbiased clips. This has two effects: the initial footage is slanted towards what Arab audiences want to see, and access to historic video has to be approved by APTN. As the author of the article mentions, this may be why the TV news never shows Palestinian celebrations of 9/11 or the Arab lynch mob in Ramallah in clips - AP may be refusing to allow such "sensitive" video to be rebroadcast.

Read the whole article. If the media's entire business model is skewed against impartiality, these things need to be exposed.

And kudos to LGF for becoming the premiere media critic on the planet today.

CAIR Whines—Again

In reference to the term "Islamic fascists," the obligatory whine-o-gram has been issued from CAIR. Excerpt:

"U.S. MUSLIMS CONCERNED ABOUT BUSH'S USE OF 'ISLAMIC FASCISTS' - TOP CAIR: 'Today you equated the religion of peace with the ugliness of fascism'

"(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/10/06) - A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today expressed concern over President Bush's use of the term 'Islamic fascists' in a news conference about the arrest of 21 suspects in a plot to bomb airliners flying between Britain and the United States.

"In a letter to President Bush, Parvez Ahmed, board chairman of the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wrote in part:

"'American Muslims have consistently condemned all acts of terrorism, whether carried out by individuals, groups or states. We repudiate anyone who plans or carries out a terrorist act. The American Muslim community remains dedicated to the protection of our nation's security. . .'"
The above sounds good, primarily because the West wants to belive that all religions speak to the goodness in man. Nevertheless, the fact remains that CAIR refuses to condemn terrorists or terrorist organizations by specific name.

Three Middle Eastern Men Caught In Michigan With 1000 Disposable Cell Phones

I'm sure they have a good reason for needing them. Don't worry: (TV5) — Around 1:00am August 11th three men purchased cell phones from the Wal-Mart store on M-81 near the corner of M-24 in Caro. Wal-Mart places a limit on the number of cell phones that can be purchased at once, that number is three.

The three men allegedly bought 80 by purchasing them three at time so that an alert wouldn’t be triggered by the cash register. They also paid cash. An alert clerk grew suspicious and called Tuscola County central dispatch. The Caro Police Department sent a unit and stopped the rented van on M-81 just east of Caro. The suspects were headed towards Bad Axe on M-81 where there is another Super Wal-Mart.

The three men were described as being of Pakistani descent but live in Texas. Police say the three, ages 19, 22, and 23 appear to be naturalized citizens. One man was driving while the other two were in the back opening the phone packages with box cutters throwing the phones in one box, batteries in another and the packaging and phone charger in another container.

The suspects had 1000 other cell phones in the van. There was also a bag of receipts showing that someone was in Wisconsin the day before. The phones were Nokia Tracfones selling for $20 at Wal-Mart. For your twenty dollars you receive a phone charger and 40 minutes of airtime. The phones do not have to be registered with a name. Also discovered was a laptop with store addresses and store logos.

Yesterday, two Middle Eastern men were caught in Michigan with 600 disposable cell phones.

Newt Wants Tougher Policy

"Gingrich told the Forward that, in a speech he is preparing to deliver September 9 at the conservative American Enterprise Institute in Washington, he will argue that both America and Israel are failing in their fight against global terrorism. 'Watching the failures in Iran, in North Korea, in Iraq, in Gaza and in Lebanon, this is going to be a harder, deeper, more difficult war than I would have guessed five years ago,' Gingrich said.

In interviews with the Forward and in recently published opinion articles, conservatives slammed Israel’s reluctance to launch a comprehensive ground-war against the Lebanese Shi’ite militia."

World War III: 21 Days in August – Part 5

From The Gathering Storm

Over the last several months, the bloggosphere has contained many articles on what I call the Winds of War. I started thinking about how the coming world war would play out if we took these random opinions and news items and stitched them together portraying, over the next 5 days, one scenario of how World War III will enfold. Granted there are others, but this one, as an escalation process, I believe is most likely grounded in what pundits are saying the coming war would look like. It starts a few years out, but the scenario could begin to unfold tomorrow.

21 Days in August

Day Seventeen: 8:50 PM PST
I can’t believe my eyes. But there it is in a grainy color cell phone picture. It’s an image of a mushroom cloud over Tehran. All the TV news stations are running the picture with their talking heads analyzing the event. What we can gather is this much. Tehran did not expect this. But what else would Israel think after all the threats of extinction from Iran?

Iran probably thought that with Europe and the US mired in civil war and terrorists attacks, it was time to act on Israel. It seems Tehran launched a long range ballistic missile at Tel Aviv. Israel figured it was a nuke and let off one to Tehran. As it turned out, and Israel confirms this, it was a conventional missile meant to be a warning of things to come and exploded near Tel Aviv. But how would Israel know? Iran has the bomb and has continuously threatened to wipe Israel off the map. What a tragic blunder by Iran. Iran promises a swift retaliation. I fear the balloon has gone up in the Middle-East.

Day Eighteen: 7:15 AM PST
That’s it. It happened. Nuclear war in the Mid-East. Iran counter-attacked last night with nukes and many of Israel’s cities are in ruins. On the other hand, many of Iran's major cities have been decimated by overwhelming Israeli nukes which outnumbered those of Iran by 20 to one – many with MIRVs (Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles). Israel also used neutron bombs (not very well known, even by NATO) on Iran's oil infrastructure killing the human occupants with short-term deadly gamma radiation but leaving the physcial infrastucture intact. But the fallout from Iran's nukes on Israel has poisoned the Palestinian West Bank and Jordon. The radioactive fallout is working its way towards Syria and Iraq. Iraqis and Western contract workers are fleeing the country and oil production is at a standstill.

But that’s not all. The Straits of Hormuz are closed by the Iranians. They have sunk three fully loaded tankers in the Straits with cruise missles and then, taking a leaf out of Saddam's book, lit fire to the oil slick. All tanker traffic is at a standstill. Pipelines carrying Iranian oil out of the country have been severed by what’s left of the Israeli air force. Europe will be freezing in the dark in a few months.

Day Nineteen: 9:40 PM PST
Christ! Can things get any worse? Islamist terrorists have overthrown the oil sheiks in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. There are reports that the kingdoms of Yemen, Oman, UAE and Qatar are also under siege. Here in the US, the internment of Muslim-American has been made official. The Administration declares general internment citing the precedence of Japanese-Americans in WWII. The Attorney General suspends ‘habeas corpus’. Muslim organizations are shut down indiscriminately until the Attorney General can ascertain whether they pose a threat to national security. The offices of CAIR in both the US and Canada are shut down.

Day Twenty: 10:15 AM PST
The BBC reports that NATO troops are being sent to the Arabian Peninsula to secure the oil fields. China states emphatically that they will not accept US and European forces occupying the Arabian Peninsula. The US tells China that they are willing to give China access to oil after the region is ‘stabilized’. India sides with China and demands that it’s allowed to send a military mission to the Arabian Peninsula. Pakistan threatens war if India follows through.

Day Twenty One: 8:05 PM PST
I feel this is the end. I left my home and fled to our cabin up in the north woods. The New York Times reported that North Korea, prompted by China, has fired nuclear missiles at Japan and China has invaded Taiwan. The President ordered a full retaliatory attack on North Korea decimating its military capability. Tonight, as we pack up the last of our belongings, we hear reports from the bloggosphere that China has ordered its citizens into fallout shelters.

May God help us.

The Difference

The persistent Jut asks:

Isaac, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this: Two people grow up with the same religious/ideological background. One becomes a terrorist, one doesn't. Besides temper and a radical imam, what makes the difference?

He is basically asking: What's the difference between a non-Islamist and an Islamist? A complicated, rambling, and perhaps unsatisfactory answer follows.

From a young age I have had many questions about the Islamic practices around me. I couldn't understand why certain things were done. I thought that when I got older, it would make sense to me. I rejected the possibility that the adults around me were utterly silly. I think that yearning for comprehension is present in all of us.

Many who are born in the Muslim world are force-fed the religion. The madrassas don't pass down any knowledge, they simply beat The TruthTM into the young minds. For hundreds of years, the chaos and xenophobia of such teachings was essentially limited to the Islamic lands. Globalization and petrodollars, however, has made the export of this poison possible.

Islam, in its present form, is incompatible with Western Civilization. Yet, Muslims, both Islamists and non-Islamists are attracted to the West. Even in Saudi Arabia, one of the most, if not the most, despicable regimes on Earth, the Arabs regularly salivate over Baywatch in their homes. Praise be to the satellite dish.

It's schizophrenic. Saudis dress their young daughters as cute little dementors, yet many have zero scruples about viewing infidelicious television shows. Such is the strong pull of the West.

A lot of these people see the West and they want in. The Islamist is also affected by the devilish attraction. Though, the Islamist can't stomach the fact that the West is so wretchedly non-Islamic.

It's worse: After all these years, the audacious West doesn't even "respect" Islam! You see, the Western society respects traffic lights by following the simple set rules. In the same, but opposite sense, the West doesn't collectively follow Islamic laws. Ergo, the West disrespects Islam. Given that "logic", one might say that the West disrespects practically every religion...but to the Islamist who has "learned" The TruthTM, that is no reason.

The non-terrorist embraces the West. The Islamist, however, festers. The non-terrorist sees a shining, dynamic, and glowing pinnacle of humanity in the West. The Islamist sees a glittering and glaring middle finger in the face of Islam.

The non-terrorist values the productivity s/he brings to the market. The Islamist finds the whole enterprise to be hollow. The non-terrorist enjoys his/her life. The Islamist succumbs to the most potent venom of them all: This life means nothing. What matters is the Afterlife. Obliterate those who dare disagree with you. Bonus points if you take yourself with them.

That's the difference: One lives life on Earth, the other finds solace in death.

Arab Israelis Support Hizbullah

In Nazareth Israeli Arabs Demonstrate in support of Hezbollah
Text: “Occupation and invasion = terror”; “Resistance = right and obligation”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 16, 2006]

PMW Watch shows us clear examples of why Israel isn't exactly too happy about the prospect of having a lot more Arab citizens. In the bulletin PMW quotes Arab Israeli leaders who support Hizbullah, call the Hizbullah terrorist heroes, etc.

Here are some quotes PMW uses:
Ra’oda Att’allah, Director of the Arab Culture Society in Haifa:
"The popularity of Hezbollah has grown substantially among the Arabs in Israel… the first time there is a feeling of returning the honor, and that the people are feeling for the first time that there is a group which resists [fights-ed.] and stands firm against the Israeli army."[Al-Ayyam, August 8, 2006]

Ali Mana, relative of 2 Israeli Arabs killed by Hezbollah missile:
“Hezbollah raised our heads and lifted our spirit.” [Al-Ayyam, August 8, 2006]

Wasil Taha, Arab Knesset Member:
“Resistance [Hezbollah attacks] is not terror but it is a moral value. As for terror, the state [Israel] carries it out." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 6, 2006]

Arab Knesset Member, Chairman of Balad Party, Azmi Bishara:
"Solidarity with these heroes [Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorists] is the least [we can do]." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 16, 2006]

Muhammad Hasan Kan’an, Chairman Arab National Party:
“America, Britain and Israel will not succeed to defeat the peoples in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan... This is a war against Islam and against the Arabs”. [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 6, 2006]

Arab Knesset Member, Chairman of Balad Party, Azmi Bishara:
"The Palestinian and Lebanese resistance returned the confidence to the Arab-Islamic identity after years of defeats." [Al-Ayyam, August 8, 2006]

Raa’d Salah, Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel:
“'A look at the region in which we live teaches that the two biggest liars are Ehud Olmert and George Bush, who lead the world to carnage, destruction, and massacres.' He called the peoples of the world to expose the lies of those who burn children." [Al-Ayyam, August 8, 2006]

Raa'd Salah, Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel:
"The Palestinian people and the people of Lebanon are the winners because they have justice, whereas Bush and Olmert are the losers because they have falsehood". [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 8, 2006]

Raja Aghbariyah, Secretary of Israeli Arab Movement, “Abna Al-Balad”:
“This war forced all the factors to choose between the imperialistic Zionist and reactionary Arab camp [on one hand] or the ‘peoples’ and their resistance [movements]. We chose the ‘peoples’ and their resistance [movements] in Beirut, Palestine, Iraq and Somalia.” He sent a greeting to Hassan Nasrallah “because he upraised our heads” and added, “We are not just against the war, but we are also in favor of the resisting people [i.e. terror]. Therefore, we do not want their fake democracy in Iraq." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 8, 2006]

Family of young Arab girl, Du’a Abbas, killed by Hezbollah rocket:
"Blamed the government of Israel for the killing of their daughter."
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 27, 2006]

Dr. Mansur Abbas, Chairman, Conference of the Southern Wing of the Islamic Movement in Israel, and cousin of the young girl mentioned above:
"The Israeli politicians chose war and they are responsible for what is happening." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 27, 2006]

Arab Knesset Member, Chairman of Balad Party, Azmi Bishara:
"Israel's goal has been to expel civilians after organized massacres, of which the most well known are Dir Yassin and dozens more like it. To expel them in order to settle in their place in 1948... [Now] Israel targeted the civilians in Lebanon as a direct continuation of the historic chain, in a bloody red moment in Qana: First, to punish those who supported the resistance, second to expel the civilians in the South to the North in order to cause additional communal tension in Lebanon and third, to nourish the barbaric desire for revenge. This was a planned and intended attack. Israel is a terrorist state." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 4, 2006]

Nimer Nimer, Israeli Arab author:
“What happened in Nazi Germany 60 years ago occurs today in Baghdad, Gaza and Beirut.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 6, 2006]

Arab Knesset Member, Chairman of Balad Party, Azmi Bishara:
"They [Lebanese children] are victims of a culture of criminal, savage and barbaric [Israeli] aircraft. One must settle accounts with their murderers and resist [fight] its aggression." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, August 4, 2006]

It is quite obvious that, although these people are Israeli civilians, they consider Israel to be the aggressor and occupier. They don't condemn terrorism against Israeli civilians, but are praising Hizbullah for it.

They have that right of course, but it also makes extremely clear why Israel wants to close her borders to Arab immigrants / those who say they have the right to return.

Honesty in Australia

From Crikey

6. It's time to think seriously about Islamic profiling

Barrister and media commentator Peter Faris QC writes:

Islamic terrorists have been prevented from committing mass murder and destruction by the excellent work of the British police forces. Australia must now look to its homeland security as well. Our skies must be kept safe.

Now is the time to be honest about Islamic profiling. It is Muslim plane passengers who pose the terrorist threat to Australians. Not all Muslim passengers, but certainly some of them. Australia desperately needs an adequate identity card system. Religion should be stated on the ID card. This will increase the chances of identification of Islamic terrorists. No flight tickets could then be purchased without proper ID.

Australia cannot risk the lives of its citizens in some sort of game of Islamic Roulette. We know with absolute certainty that terrorists will come from the Muslim community. It is in our interest and theirs that Islamic terrorist attacks do not occur. Part of the price Muslims will have to pay is profiling.

Australian Muslim leaders must admit publicly that the terrorist threat comes from their people. Those leaders must support effective profiling procedures that will protect Muslims and the rest of Australians.

For too long, Political Correctness has forced us to look away and pretend that Muslims are not the threat. We must now acknowledge the threat of radical Islam in Australia before it is too late.

Surely all of Islamic Australia wants nothing more than a peaceful, terror-free Australia where we can all live in tolerance and harmony. I certainly do. Accordingly, Muslims must embrace profiling until this crisis is over. (And please do not rush to call me a racist – Islam is a religion, not a race).

Is Mike Wallace Insane?

Drudge Report reports on the upcoming Sixty Minutes interview with Iranian President Ahmadinejad (no link available):

PITBULL JOURNALIST GOES SOFT ON IRANIAN MADMAN: 88-year-old CBS journalist says Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a 'reasonable' man on Sean Hannity's ABC radio program...

Points out Ahmadinejad not anti-Jewish... just anti-Zionist state. Says many Jews in Iranian Parliament, in great positions in Iranian life...

Believes Ahmadinejad sincere in his hope for peaceful coexistence between Iran and West... Troubled by comparisons of leader to Hitler...

Marvels at Ahmadinejad's civil engineering degree, 'intellect', 'savvy'...

Asks viewers not to bring 'prejudices' to Sunday night '60 MINUTES' broadcast... Proclaims 'discussion' was sincere and not for propaganda purposes... Developing...

It is true that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad never comes right out and calls for a genocide of "Jews." No. Instead he calls for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

Here are some facts:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a Holocaust denier.

Iran funds Hamas. Hamas' charter calls for "death to the Jews."

Iran also funds Hizbollah. Here are some quotes from Hassan Nasrallah the head of Hizbollah:

"If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew. Notice, I do not say the Israeli" - Hassan Nasrallah

"Anyone who reads the Koran and the holy writings of the monotheistic religions sees what they did to the prophets, and what acts of madness and slaughter the Jews carried out throughout history... Anyone who reads these texts cannot think of co-existence with them, of peace with them, or about accepting their presence, not only in Palestine of 1948 but even in a small village in Palestine, because they are a cancer which is liable to spread again at any moment..." - Hassan Nasrallah

“If they [the Jews] all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them world wide.”- Hassan Nasrallah

So, given these facts, how is it that Mike Wallace has come to the conclusion that Ahmadinejad does not hate Jews? How is it he has come to the conclusion that Ahmadinejad is a reasonable man?

Mike Wallace is a disgrace. And, his idiocy has precedence (from Home and Garden Magazine, 1938):

The great dictator, it seems, was quite the interiors wizard: "The colour scheme throughout this bright, airy chalet is light jade green. The Führer is his own decorator, designer and furnisher, as well as architect... [Hitler] has a passion about cut flowers in his home."

And he is seldom alone in his mountain hideaway, as he "delights in the society of brilliant foreigners, especially painters, musicians and singers. As host, he is a droll raconteur... "

Just War Theory: the Only Game in Academia and the Military

In the Spring 2006 issue of The Objective Standard, Yaron Brook and Alex Epstein analyze "Just War Theory." In the article they state:

Just and Unjust Wars [by Michael Walzer] serves as the major textbook in the ethics classes taught at West Point and dozens of others colleges and military schools. More broadly, Just War Theory—for which Just and Unjust Wars is the most popular modern text—is the sole moral theory of war taught today.

As evidence of this I present some recent comments on the war in Lebanon by Mark Grimsley who has a blog named Blog Them Out of the Stone Age. Grimsley is a professional military historian who teaches at Ohio State University where he received his Ph.D. He has published several well regarded works on the American Civil War. In a recent post Grimsley provides numerous links about the ongoing campaign in Lebanon. One section is titled: "Articles on Just War Theory and the Problem of Moral Judgment in War." As the entries under this heading make clear, there is only one theory governing the "rules of engagement" in war and that is based on one interpretation of Judeo-Christian ethics.

As Brook and Epstein note:

To identify a nation as an enemy is to recognize it as a committed initiator of force that threatens one’s own life, that forfeits its right to exist, and that in justice deserves whatever is necessary to end the threat it poses. By Just War Theory’s moral standards, however, there is no such thing as an enemy nation. Even when a nation initiates aggression, it is not regarded as the proper object of retaliation, but as a haven of “others” to be served. (This notion is, unsurprisingly, rooted in Augustine’s religion, Christianity, which countenances us to love everyone— specially, as proof of extreme virtue, to “love thine enemy.”)

Walzer’s prescriptions are not the idle musings of an ivory tower philosopher; they are exactly the sort of “rules of engagement” under which U.S. soldiers are fighting—and dying—overseas. When our marines in Baghdad do not shoot back when fired upon from a mosque, or when our helicopter pilots are shot down while flying too low in an attempt to avoid civilian casualties while in pursuit of their targets, they are following the dictum that we should show a “positive commitment to save civilian lives” even if this entails “risking soldiers’ lives.”

Prof. Grimsley elaborates further on his views of "just war" in a blog post at Cliopatria. He is practicularly unhappy about the graphic "I'm a Fan of Disproportionate Response" that is on the sidebar of The Dougout:

Well, I'm not a fan of disproportionate response. The reliance on aerial and artillery bombardment troubles me; I cannot, try as I might, accept the proposition that it falls within the modern laws and usages of war. It violates the very core of those laws and usages: The weapons used in war must discriminate between combatants and noncombatants. Civilians are never permissible targets of war, and every effort must be taken to avoid killing civilians. Their deaths are permissible only if they are unavoidable victims of a deliberate attack on a military target.

I agree that "disproportionate response" violates what passes for international law and usages when it comes to civilized nations defending themselves. How is Hezbollah going to be made to follow these laws and usages? The question answers itself and also make clear that "Just War Theory" benefits the aggressor. It would be suicidal for Israel to adopt "Just War Theory." Such a course would be an open invitation to fascist aggressors to attack with impunity, hide behind civilians and when they start losing to whine to the U.N. for a "cease fire." As with all forms of altruism "Just War Theory" rewards evil and punishes the good.

British "tolerance" towards militant Islam makes it difficult to prevent terror attacks

Threats by "militant" Muslims in London
demonstration protesting Mohammed
cartoons-- while police looked on

Polls show that the British have amongst the most "tolerant" attitude towards Islamic extremism of most European countries...and, therefore, its really hard to take effective, pre-emptive measures vs. terrorism in Great Britain. Yet, ironically, many British Muslims are amongst the most radical in Europe. So far the British have been relatively lucky-- but can their luck hold out?

Eteraz: Something Rotten In Britain

From Eteraz:

Something is rotten among the state of British Muslims. There is the imminent terror plot to blow up planes at a massive scale. There was 7/7. There are British Muslims supporting Hizabollah (even as other Brits go to fight for Israel). There were British Muslims going off to fight in Iraq. There were British Muslims going off to Afghanistan (although British Muslims are also part of the British army). How did it happen that a bunch of university educated First World kids started seeing themselves as some sort of revolutionists?

Many Brits, for some foolish reason, pin the blame on British foreign policy. Oh, if only our foreign policy did not mimic the American foreign policy, we would stop producing home grown terrorists, because they would have no reason to hate us. Wrong. Dead wrong.

Imagine for one moment that I cast a magical spell, let’s say, using my Harry Potter wand, and the British government’s foreign policy became precisely what 99.9% of Muslims wanted it to be (assuming Muslims could agree — which, I can assure you, they can’t). But let’s say that happened. Would British-born Muslim fanaticism disappear? I assure you most certainly not. For you see, Palestine, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq are just proxies for the fanatic.

If all of those places were at peace he would find new reasons for legitimizing his killing. He would target Western “materialism.” He would target Western “hedonism.” He would target Western “secularism.” Just as a fanatic can look to the television and see dead Muslim children around the world to fuel his rancor, he would be able to find on the television any number of other “catalysts” to fuel his behavior. Not only that, but he would find in his Salafi tomes (Qutb written, Saudi paid), those catalysts (like the flesh of the Western woman). No, it is not the foreign policy that is the problem; it the fanatic that is the issue.

A Stark Reminder

Bush uses the “I” word (via Michelle Malkin):

President Bush this morning said the terror plot uncovered in Britain is a "a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation."

Now if he can just pull back Condi from trying to stop Israel

Update: New York Times (aka New Duranty Times at Jihad Watch) is shocked, shocked that Bush uses the "I" word ... making it a headline event!

Intifada in the city of Oslo?

From : News From Norway

A sculpture of UN’s first secretary general Trygve Lie, standing outside the Furuseth centre in Oslo, has been vandalized by a group of immigrant youths. The youths tied a chain around the monument and used their car to pull it down from its plinth. The act is believed to be a response to the ongoing Israeli-Lebanese war. This is the second time in two weeks that the sculpture has attracted the attention of vandals. On July 24, car tires were placed around the base of the sculpture and set afire in an attempt to destroy it. Burning tires were also placed around the head of the sculpture. Last night crime technicians were at the scene trying to asses the damages. It’s not known if the sculpture suffered irrepairable damages. Two youths has been apprehended in connection with last nights fire.

Trygve Lie was an eager supporter of the creation of Israel, and he used his position in the UN to help secure the establishment of the jewish nation. The police believe that this is the underlying motive behind the attack on the sculpture.

Anti-Israeli sentiments has been running high in the city lately. Within a periode of two weeks we’ve had attacks on the city’s only Synagouge, we’ve had anti-Israeli demonstrations that has resulted in the burning of the Israeli flag, and of course we’ve seen the publication of the infamous anti-Israeli piece crafted by bestselling Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder.

What’s next? A full scale intifada in the city of Oslo?

Terror Arrests In Dearborn, Michigan: Flight Documents + 600 Disposable Cell Phones

Dearborn, Michigan has highest concentration of Muslims of any city in the United States, which, of course, doesn't mean we ought to be worried about any terrorism plots being hatched within it's boundaries. No, nothing to worry about:

Two men were charged Wednesday with money laundering in support of terrorism after authorities said they found airplane passenger lists and information on airport security checkpoints in their car.

Deputies stopped Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, 20, and Ali Houssaiky, 20, both of Dearborn, Mich., on a traffic violation Tuesday and found the flight documents along with $11,000 cash and 12 phones in their car, Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said.

It wasn't clear what significance the airline information might have. Assistant County Prosecutor Susan Vessels declined to comment on whether the manifests were for upcoming flights or those that already flown. She also would not give the origin or destination of the flight or flights.

FBI spokesman Mike Brooks in Cincinnati said his office was notified about the arrests and had an agent investigating.

Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted buying about 600 phones in recent months at stores in southeast Ohio, said sheriff's Maj. John Winstanley. They sold the phones to someone in Dearborn, a Detroit suburb, Winstanley said.

Vessels declined to say how the phones, cash or flight information involved terrorism.

Investigators going through the car after the pair were pulled over in Marietta also found a map that showed locations of Wal-Mart stores from Ohio through Kentucky, Tennessee and into North and South Carolina
, Vessels said.

I'm telling you, there is nothing to worry about.

Hey, how'd the Dodgers do last night?
