Take a look at this posting by Velvet Hammer. Quick excerpt:
...[A] hospital porter employed by Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Pendlebury, England has lost his job over muslims praying in the hospital chapel refusing to allow a Virgin Mary statue and a Crucifix to be uncovered. Yes! They were covered! As if that wasn’t enough....Coming soon to a hospital near you?

When it comes right down to it, they object to any representative art, so it won't stop with the Virgin Mary.
By the way, I wonder what their policy would be on miraculous representative art, like for instance, when the Virgin Mary's face shows up on a prune, or something like that.
I'm hoping for her image on a peach--a more attractive fruit.
Seriously, now, you're right:
it won't stop with the Virgin Mary
Bibles will be forbidden for ANY patients.
I recently discovered a Quran, with a Bible and local phone book, in my hotel room drawer in Cincinnati. The cleaning person said that some of the rooms had them; I don't have to tell you where it wound up:)
