Unreal: Defense Department Brings in Radical Islamist to Lecture Troops on Islam Before They Deploy to Afghanistan....

From Weasel Zippers (click on title above):

And I forgot to mention, this is in Ft. Hood.....

Somebody at Fort Hood Should Be Walking the Plank- National Review

Prepare to be infuriated.

It's been brought to my attention by several reliable sources that the Defense Department has brought Louay Safi to Fort Hood as an instructor, and that he has been lecturing on Islam to our troops in Fort Hood who are about to deploy to Afghanistan. Safi is a top official of the Islamic Society of North America(ISNA), and served as research director at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).

Worse, last evening, Safi was apparently permitted to present a check (evidently on behalf of ISNA) to the families of the victims of last month's Fort Hood massacre. A military source toldthe blogger Barbarossa at the Jawa Report: "This is nothing short of blood money. This is criminal and the Ft. Hood base commander should be fired right now."

ISNA was identified by the Justice Department at the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing conspiracy trial as an unindicted co-conspirator. The defendants at that trial were convicted of funding Hamas to the tune of millions of dollars.

This should have come as no surprise. ISNA is the Muslim Brotherhood's umbrella entity for Islamist organizations in the United States. It was established in 1981 to enable Muslims in North America "to adopt Islam as a complete way of life" — i.e., to further the Brotherhood's strategy of establishing enclaves in the West that are governed by sharia.

As noted in this 2003 Frontpage report, a 2002 search warrant links Safi to an entity called the "Safa Group." The Safa Group has never been charged with a crime, but the affidavit allegest its involvement in moving large sums of money to terrorist fronts. Safi was also caught on an FBI wiretap of Sami al-Arian, a former leader in the murderous Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). The year was 1995, and the topic of the discussion between Safi and al-Arian was Safi's concern that President Clinton's executive order prohibiting financial transactions with terrorist organizations would negatively affect al-Arian. More recently, al-Arian has been convicted of conspiring to provide material support to terrorism.

If you want to get a sense of the garbage our troops are being forced to endure in Fort Hood's classrooms, check out Jihad Watch, where my friend Bob Spencer has more on this episode and on his prior jousts with Safi, here, here, and here.

Cop: Fort Hood Wounds Will End My Career

AP) One of two civilian police officers who brought down the Army psychiatrist accused of going on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood said her wounds from the attack will cut short her career as street police officer.

Sgt. Kimberly Munley said doctors have told her she needs a total knee replacement, a surgery set for January, but that her new knee is likely to wear out sooner if she runs or carries the 15- to 25-pound gear pack required by her job.

"I do want to stay in law enforcement. I'm not going to be able to do what I did before, which is basically work the street," she told Wilmington, N.C., television station WECT on Wednesday. "It's going to give me another avenue to look in as far as possibly teaching and instructing."

Fort Hood officials said Thursday that Munley, 34, who was shot in the leg and hand, has not started the process to determine if she's physically able to do her former job.

Munley and Sgt. Mark Todd, another civilian officer in Fort Hood's police force, are credited with shooting Maj. Nidal Hasan to end the Nov. 5 shooting spree on the Texas Army post, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Todd, 42, was not injured and is already back at work.

Hasan remains hospitalized in a San Antonio military hospital but is paralyzed from his wounds, said his attorney John Galligan.

Meanwhile, the Army Reserve unit that Hasan apparently was supposed to deploy with plans to leave for Afghanistan as scheduled early Friday, Fort Hood officials said Thursday. Three soldiers from the Madison, Wis.-based combat stress unit died in the shooting and others were injured.

Hasan has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. Army officials have not said if they will seek the death penalty, but they plan an evaluation in the next 45 days to determine his mental state that day and whether he is competent to stand trial.

In a posting on her blog, Munley said she was lucky that she did not lose her leg, where a bullet hit an artery. She said she now has to use a wheelchair and walker, but "cannot complain one bit" because she feels she was given a second chance at life.

"I have addressed more or less every thought and emotion about what's happened to everyone else - the injured and the ones that did not make it and their families," Munley told the television station. "I can't tell you if I have any thoughts towards what he's done to me because I've been too overwhelmed with trying to come to terms with how everyone else has suffered through this."

Munley, who previously was in the Army, worked as a police officer in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., from 2000-02.

Paul McCartney takes Meat-Free Mondays to EU

BRUSSELS -- Paul McCartney took his "Meat-Free Mondays" campaign to the European Parliament on Thursday, saying the power to halt global warming lies as much with individuals as with their governments.

McCartney met in Brussels with Rajendra K. Pachauri, head of the U.N.'s global climate change panel, and praised the virtue of skipping meat one day a week for the sake of the environment.

"I grew up as a kid not eating meat on Fridays," McCartney told reporters. "It was part of the rules of the school I went to.

At a time of concerns over global warming, McCartney added, there are "even more crucial reason" to skip meat.

The former Beatle and well-known vegetarian said the production of food - from farm to fork - accounts for 20 to 30 percent of global green house gas emissions. Livestock production is responsible for around half of these emissions.

Still, he admitted that his flight from London to Brussels - and on to Berlin for a concert later Thursday - had contributed to global warming.

"They haven't invented microphones that work on candle power," he said. "I do everything I can. If I go for a car, I go for hybrid. I recycle."

Pachauri lauded McCartney's initiative, saying it "certainly makes the tasks of governments so much easier."

Earlier, Pachauri met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, who said even if the global climate conference opening in Copenhagen next week does not yield a final accord it must "light the pathway to a legal agreement" on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Barroso said he was heartened that "around 90" government leaders are coming to Copenhagen for the Dec. 7-18 U.N. climate meeting.
