China, Turkey elevate defense, energy ties to 'strategic cooperation'

ANKARA -- China and Turkey have signed several agreements that officials deemed as strategic cooperation in such areas as defense, energy and trade.

"We have agreed to raise our relationship to the level of strategic cooperation," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

The agreements were signed on Oct 8 in Ankara during the visit by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.

The visit took place after the first Chinese participation in the Turkish-hosted Anatolian Eagle combat air exercise, usually reserved for NATO allies.

(an exercise btw in which the USA had to DEMAND, that the Turks ground their advanced block 50 F-16's so as not to practice against the Chinese
SU-27's...which BTW refueled in Iran on the way over .. the first time any other nation's air force has been allowed to refuel in Iran since the Shah in 1979 - epaminondas)

Ankara and Beijing have agreed to increase trade to $50 billion a year, or triple the current level, by 2015. The trade would include joint defense and energy projects as well as investments.

Officials said China and Turkey would cooperate in counter-insurgency and other security efforts (can anyone say uighurs?).

"We have decided bilaterally to establish a strategic partnership in our relations," Wen, the first Chinese prime minister to visit Turkey since 2002, said.

Wen said Ankara and Beijing would establish what he termed a joint panel meant to battle insurgency.

Turkey has in years past been accused of serving as a source of funding for China's separatist Muslim minority.

The eight agreements included efforts to expand cooperation in energy, transport and communications. They included memorandum of understandings on technology and maritime cooperation.

How is it possible, given the new cooperation with Iran and now this, to come to any conclusion other than WHAT IS OBVIOUS? What internal mental subterfuges will we see for the moronic delusional fantasists to FOOL THEMSELVES into believing it's all okay and just another day?

See you at Williams and Conolly ... I'll have it rare, old man

The Turks have decided the West has had it, and oh, BTW they've remembered something about the Quran at the same time.

A logical move from Turkey, though, something that NATO leaders should have foreseen. Turkey is clearly NOT interested in any alliance with Western countries, except in the European Union for obvious reasons.

Uighurs' problem is really interesting. When Uighur's revolt happened there was NO uproar throughout the Muslim world. If that same thing would have been done in any Western world, there would have been riots, UN petitions against "Western violence", condemnations, great speeches about jihad and so on.

The only reason for that difference is that they know China is not going to move its positions one inch, whatever attitude they have, while Western countries are very willing to do so. Of course, Western leaders (and inhabitants...) aren't going to think about the meaning of this agreement, but they should and quickly.
