Indiana: Elementary Schoolchildren Told to Write Story as if They Were Making Hajj to Mecca… Shockingly, Parents Have a Problem With This

From Weasel Zippers:

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — Some parents of a Morgan County elementary school said they are outraged by an assignment that asks students to write about their experience on a Hajj.
A Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca and is one of the pillars of the Islamic faith.
Seventh-graders at Martinsville East Middle School were asked to write at least 125 words “as though you are on the journey to Mecca and are writing in your journal about what you see and experience,” 6News’ Joanna Massee reported.
“I feel strongly that if the same assignment was given from a Christian standpoint, whether it was your experience at the Passover or if you were there when Christ was crucified or anything like that, the ACLU or any other organization like that would be up in arms,” said Ron Fletcher, a parent of one of the students.

Pastorius,

Why wouldn't they have a problem with it? If non Christian Parents, and even liberal Christian Parents would have a problem with their kids having to write a story from a Christian perspective, why wouldn't they have a problem with this? Why shouldn't they have a problem with this?

What was the source for this assignment? An activities packet? A textbook? The teacher? The social studies department?

Its time for those parents to attend the Board of Education meetings. And remember the names when election time comes up.
For now...they should speak up and let those educators know how they feel.
and fast!!

Infidel Task Force,

I agree. A large number of Americans especially leftwing Americans would be enraged if something like this was done with Christianity in a public school, and in this case rightfully so. How the school board could not know about the controversy this would cause, is beyond me, but they need to be made aware of it, and pressured to put an end to this.

Slightly OT and a really weird question, but does anyone know whether muslims tend to be the operators of shops that do henna tattooing and something called "eyebrow threading"? We have a case in the greater Boston area of a blind woman being refused service because of her seeing-eye dog, but of course the media is not naming the shop owners so it is hard to tell whether there is a connection.

A clever parent would have had the child write the story of how he smuggled C4 into the kaaba compound and suicide bombed das cube in an attempt to destroy/desecrate it.

SamenoKami,

A cleaver parent would demand that that the school drop this on establishment grounds, since its giving special treatment to Islam. While part of me would enjoy doing what you suggest, it would actually be counter productive, if you think about it. It would just give the school an excuse to label the parents bigots, regardless of weather they were or not. It wouldn't do much if anything to fight Islamitization.

SamenoKami,

I totally agree with you there.
